why not, they cost close to nothing after all. would be interesting to know if you can hear a treble peak with the modified version that isn't there with the unmodified triple flange tip.
I suspect the flanges have an influence on the treble peaks, but some other anon said it can't be because only the length between the ear drum and nozzle is relevant.
btw I don't seriously use these things anymore, tone generator + eq won

bought the Tanchjim Zero Ultima DSP (from OP recs) a couple of month ago. They are a nice tool to have at hand, I sometimes use them outside because they have usb-c, sometimes I do calls with them because of their microphone, and I especially like to use them while sleeping, because they are very small and don't stick out of the ear so much, very comfortable. sound is good, especially if you don't mind sane bass levels. the cable is not its forte, it won't be your main pos, that's for sure, but still definitely a recommendation for being handy and decent for what it is.
didn't use any of the dsp functionality, I probably need an app for that? maybe someone can share their experiences with the dsp stuff, is it worth it?
>>
>>109652932
>says 2 pin (s-type?)
s-type means QDC, so no, it does not fit Delci

>>109652974
>Zero Ultima DSP
it works with hangout.audio's browser eq tool. chrome browser, plug n play. eq (dsp) is customization of your audio. it's up to you to know how to handle the tool effectively and extract the best results.
>>

>I probably need an app for that?
Yes https://tanchjim.com/en/services/ for the android and windows app
>maybe someone can share their experiences with the dsp stuff, is it worth it?
They have some presets that will make it more V-shaped or leaner than stock, but the real deal is that you can tweak it to your own taste or fix what you think is missing, like whether it's too bright or has too much bass.

I downloaded the android app instead, but to me this is a bit confusing because there is no neutral eq where everything is 0, the default sound already is an eq with 5 filters (see picrel). I chose the balanced preset, because based on the measurements by https://vortexreviews.squig.link/ it has less bess, and I'm a certified class-3 listener (not true, but it's a funny meme nonetheless). I thought I could set my eq from a flat base line. Since all default presets are nowhere near a flat line I suppose this thing must sound bad when disabling all 5 filters in the app...
For this particular iem it is not important to me, but the idea to store a custom peq preset on the iem itself is really cool

NTA, but he linked the hangout tool that's tailored to crin's products, that's the tool from the dev that should support it https://www.pragmaticaudio.com/iems/

Regarding the default setting, yeah, that's the default DSP tuning. If you set it to 0, it's just the Zero Ultima non-DSP tuning, and then you should use it as the baseline.

The trick is you just don't. If an IEM is uncomfortable get different tips and/or different IEMs. Even after 15 years of wearing IEMs there are some that I can wear all day and some that I can't. I don't even think it's possible to "get used to" bad fit, the irritation will just stack from repeated use.

it's wrong to tell people they have to do it. not wrong if you yourself do it, but it's not a requirement for simply enjoying.
telling someone they have to do X and Y so they can enjoy is a vicious cycle of thought paralysis that nobody needs to be put through if the goal is enjoying gear.
let's say you EQ length modes. let's say it worked to your benefit. still doesn't mean it's a requirement for anybody else by any means.

I don't want to juggle several different profiles for different headphones and iems, which I'd have to keep on multiple devices and remember to change or disable each time when im using them. In that case, I'd buy a recommended wireless device with an EQ that's saved in device's memory.
EQ only makes sense for wireless devices, speakers, or when we only have one pair of headphones and use a single source. I want to just plug the headphones into the amplifier's jack and use them. I don't care if my specific fr doesn't follow target curve. Something isnt right, i will sell that shit and move on. Since when did KZ stop being sensible about making ergonomic shells? I know Hydro has more drivers than ZSX but still, a little wing would have been nice. My ear adjusted anyway and don't give discomfort so, I guess it's a non-issue today.
Anyway, buy Hydro, fuck length modes and EQ, etc.
>>
EPZ S350T any good?
>>
>>109663743
Closed ear canal creates peaks which are called length modes. Usually they are around 6-9k Hz. When people are measuring IEMs with 711 couplers it's a common practice to align coupler peak at 8k to get the most information. So moondrop tuned down 8k frequency so pudding would look good on most graphs. But if your peak is not at 8k (average male is closer to 7-7.5) tuning will become all fucked up with huge peak at 7 and then giant dip. Now it's not guaranteed it will be like that but a real possibility.

What's the difference between an expensive DAP/PMP and a cheap one? Is it just the DAC inside?
I need a cheap one since they finally started allowing us to listen to music at work. Just can't bring phones though, so I would need an actual music player instead.
The FiiO looks the nicest but it's shipping from the US. I want the MP3 by tomorrow since I work on Saturday. But I guess I can wait if it's actually good. Only 8GB storage though so I would have to buy an SD card, which sucks.
HiByR1 also looks nice, I like orange. But apparently no onboard storage so I need to buy an SD card also.
Never heard of mechen brand before. But I can get it by tomorrow. And at least 64GB storage so I can at least for now hod off on buying an SD card.
Which should I get?
My budget is ~$90-110CAD. Without an SD card. I have a spare 512GB but I would need to eventually buy one if I decide to use it.

The FiiO and HiBy R1 both uses the CS43131 DAC, except the FiiO has two of them? So I guess double the sound quality? I have no idea. I'm not a nerd regarding DACs and the differences between them.
Well, if I ever learn that the FiiO was better I'll buy it later...like, maybe next year later.

also another thing, i don't have that problem because mine is running android but when i was researching that stuff these cheaper daps without android, with simpler os like hiby os, they have problems with high resolution album covers and larger libraries, So if u have like music ripped form streaming with highres album cover u have to go thru them and downscale them to something like 320x320, less than HD so they have easier times with rendering and scaning libraries

Seems like pure bait, but I'll bite.
What does "capturing the true sound mean to you? You can't establish that playback is perfect until you define what the recording is supposed to be a perfect reproduction of.
Even minute differences in microphone placement drastically alter the final recorded sound.
>>
>>109676762
>Can't really do JM-1 eargain properly with DD
It's 2DD. And where do you get this information? I'm curious and would like to read into it.

You're too new if you unironically believe you can arbitrarily achieve any tuning with any driver type. See picrel, can you imagine they both sound drastically different? Could you imagine which one would sound better? And not like a $20 DD pos? I'll leave that up you smartasses
>>
>>109676845
You're unironically saying two IEMs with the same FR can sound different.
So FR isn't everything.
Also, your graph is arbitrary and oblique since you provided 0 information on who measured it, with what rig, with what tips, at what insertion depths, etc.
Good job conceding FR does not=everything, so....want a cookie?
>>
What specifically about a DD prevents it from producing JM-1 ear gain? "Existing options don't do it to my standards" isn't a physical limitation.
>>
>>109676695
Neither of them achieved perfection. Let's start with the most basic example. Record an instrument with a flat mic in an anechoic chamber then play it in your room on speakers, and it should sound like if that instrument were playing in your room. But what's the correct speaker for that? Omni? Stereo? Or maybe the instrument should be recorded from all directions and played through wave field synthesis speaker setup? Probably that to be honest. If you want to capture the sound of an instrument in another room you either need wave field synthesis again, or record from one spot from multiple directions and apply your hrtf filters to every separate direction and to play through specifically calibrated headphones/IEMs.Or object based audio in a virtual room. Binaural recordings are inherently flawed since they aren't using your ears, and one or even two mics simply lose the spatial information. But most music is not "instruments in a room", it's got non-instruments, non-room effects, etc. It's made by people with stereo speakers for people with stereo speakers. That's the way to go for now. The best we can hope for IEMs is to make them sound like speakers in front of you, but that seems to require head tracking to trick your brain into thinking you aren't listening with IEMs.
>>
>>109676845
You can achieve any tuning you want with EQ and one driver. It's not gonna be better just because multiple drivers are playing it. By multiple metrics it will be worse actually.
>>109676867
The FR at the eardrum can be different even if the graph is the same.
>>
>You can achieve any tuning you want with EQ

lol if they are decent drivers crossovered and implemented well enough, you can end up with better instrument separation and better perceived resolution when it comes to busy passages where a lot of things are going on at once in the audio.
this also mostly depends on well-mixed audio, of course. but apparently “I can name an engineering advantage without claiming every hybrid is automatically better” wasn't the answer you were fishing for.

>>109677117
>instrument separation is when the drivers are separate
The absolute state of drivertards. Open a music file in a DAW. There are no separate frequencies there, just line going up and down. That line gets converted into voltage going up and down, that voltage gets converted into driver moving up and down and the driver moves air pressure up and down. That's what audio is. The separation happens in the brain, not on the physical level.

ohh, I get it. your grift is, "I have no idea what an audio mix is or how it is made"

partially true. the audio mix itself dictates the degree of separation. simple as.
the mix contains every. single. spatial cue. in the audio.
hope this helps
>>

>>
>>109677154
>so when I introduce 5 dB 10k peak
depends on what is skew
there in the particular audio. you can skew what is baked into the mix by messing with what's already there, which is why neutral playback is ideal, if the intent is to preserve the mix.
otherwise, preference EQ to your desire, who cares?
>>109677157
>Any audio mix will result in a line going up and down. That's what audio is.

in order of importance
>unemployed SEAtard and rusbum schizos keep the threads moving
>lower cost of entry compared to headphones
>faster market cycle with 10x more releases than headphones
>>
>>109678177
they're cheap, you can get something that's near perfect for €25

headphones are expensive and even the expensive top of the line planars barely hit the target curves, have poor channel matching, and often times also high distortion

so yes IEMs are superior, technically speaking

you also got tons of new gimmicks being introduced, headphone tech has been stagnant for the past 10 years

I wish China would start doing the same with headphones though, it would be a blessing to have €50 headphones that can keep up with IEMs

Any tws that don't suck for around $20-30 on ali?
Hate wireless shit but need something that I can leave in for 6-8 hours while I'm garbed up in the OR
Harman/V shaped preferred

it's like we're in an anime and each one of us has different set that fit ourself and is different from each others.

>are IEMs just better sounding and better value for money than headphones these days?
Yes. I regret the amount I spent on headphones in the last decade, they all are collecting dust with the exception of HD6XX which I use to listen to podcasts and for work
>>
>>109678253
>hey're cheap, you can get something that's near perfect for €25
lol, wrong, honestly that is just cope from you
>expensive top of the line planars barely hit the target curves, have poor channel matching, and often times also high distortion
wrong
>you also got tons of new gimmicks being introduced
that gimmicks being: different color of plastic shells, meme drivers, ai generated anime faceplates and new targets so they can sell another batch of plastic trinkets
>headphone tech has been stagnant for the past 10 years
not true, even electrostats are making comeback, planars went long way past 10 years and dynamic drivers are better than ever
>I wish China would start doing the same with headphones
hope not, iems are just 3rd world audio simply due to how cheap they are. Good thing that headphones needs more materials and r&d so even chinks cant poop this shit as often as they want

Moondrop space travels. Yes I will shill this shit for free because a $20 chinesium tws outlasted two airpods and a senns momentum buds for me.
>>
>>109678605
Ok anon I will follow your way.
Which version do you like best though there's a bunch of spacetravels

kidna worried about zero 3 now that I've seen the graph....

>caring about graphs in 2026
bruh, just eq
>>
>>109679197
another great advantage of Chinese premium IEM engineering, you can EQ to your liking thanks to the low distortion

good luck doing that with headphones that aren't boutique top of the line and cost 50-100x as much as zeros
>>
>>109678895
I only have the originals, looks like the 2nd version came out, can't vouch for them. Haven't purchased another tws for 3 years. The battery life sucks though, it's not going to last you 6-8 hours, more like 3-4. Also there will be a girl whispering in your ear be warned.
>>
>>109679153
What's wrong with the graphs?

bruh, verum 2, para 1/2, the new aune stuff all have super low thd if that's ur hill to die on
>>
>>109679330
it's different from zero 2...
>>
>>109679420
yes, iems are 10 bux, these are close to 50x more expensive
good luck getting verums that have notoriously bad qc and then getting called the gamer word by the owner if you want any sort of warranty

nta, but aren't they way too small? Some people are saying that they feel more like on ear than over ear.
>>
>>109679296
Ok I boughted space travel 2 ultra and baseous bs2 lite since it was like $12 with coins for me.
Based on the thirdies in the reviews it should last like 6 hours
>girl whispering in your ear

I wanted a Bluetooth setup for iems with one of those wires you can easily hang around your neck, and asked gemini for an instant answer instead of asking /g/ and waiting. I ended up getting MEE Audio Bluetooth adaptor and sennheiser ie200. And then ended up needing to buy another adaptor IE300 to MMCX Female Straight Adapter Work for MMCX Cable to be able to connect the two because of some proprietary fit or something gemini didn't tell me about.

How badly did I fuck up?
>>
>>109680298
Sennheiser uses a proprietary recessed MMCX, so your adapter won't work.

Just buy a TWS like a normal person, ffs. Or buy the MEE Audio IEM, IE200 sounds like a cheap iem and the nozzle gimmick kills the bass anyway.

Yeah, big ears might find it annoying. It’s best to purchase it from a retailer that offers easy returns.
