I'm a incoming freshman into uni and wondering what would my career outcomes be like if I were to switch from premed to cs or cybersecurity or do medical prerequisites on that major. The track I'm going on now my goal is to start a private practice but the prospect of working from home while making a living seems tempting. In comparison to what I'm planning on doing now how would switching to that program differentiate.

pre-med isn't a degree.
biochemical engineering is a degree.
you do realize that you start a private practice after 5 years of med school, 3 years of residency, then performing the role MD alone for about 10 years. Then you start your own practice.

In other news, I was able to put together a lego castle without the einstructions so I will be starting my own structural engineering firm soon.

Had that happen with a cybersecurity job. Get an email gushing about my experience and how good of a match I am for a position they have open. Apply. Get rejected without explanation. A few months later, receive another email from the same recruiter, once again gushing about my experience. Email her, asking WTF, though in polite language. Get back an ambiguous apology. A couple of months later, get the same damn email for the third time. This time I play dumb and apply again. Get an angry email from the recruiter, telling me to stop applying for the position including the phrase "I'm not allowed to talk to you".
Still have no idea what it was that disqualified me from the position and it's weird that they're the ones who contacted me initially all three times. My guess is they have an automated system that kept picking up on keywords during an Indeed search of resumes and they didn't bother cross referencing it against people they had already contacted.

lol.
this is bar none the dumbest consideration of a switch ever. you are going from the absolute strongest career prospects in the entire country with bullet proof stability and very high income, to something that isnt worth a hoot to anyone.

its your life, do whatever you want. do it if you can accept the more likely outcome that you dont end up working in tech and have a degree worth pretty much nothing to anyone.

i wouldnt blame anyone for not wanting to do med school since its actually very hard and very competitive. and towards the end when you do residency you are walking a tight rope with hundreds of thousands in student loan debt while doing literal 60+ hour weeks of stressful work. if you can beat that you win at life though. this contrasts with tech programs where degrees are awarded to fucking anyone with a pulse hence why the degree has no value.

>>
>>109661954
employers sponsor clearance and its a very costly process. they often just prefer existing clearance. veterans get free school and have clearance required for the jobs, and mandated preferential hiring on top of that.
you cant do it yourself. the actual process takes awhile and they go and interview a bunch of people who have interacted with you or lived around you to make sure you arent a spy. you also get polygraphed for ts/sci. the short answer is that you cant have behaviors that make one a liability for compromise. which means you cant be an addict or abuse any illegal substances, gambler, someone with foreign contacts, or too mentally ill.
the upside to being subjected to all that is potential to work on maybe cool secret technology, and its a sector they cant just replace with indians liek they do with everything else. their work environments often dont allow you to even have a cell phone in there and completely air gapped internet. theres other things ive heard people complain about in it too.

its not bad advice really because breaking in entry level is basically not going to happen for most new grads. the only thing that would change it is if they actually sent all immigrants home and stopped backing h1b fraud. they made up 40% of the industry in 2019 and its only gotten much worse. they arent doing that ever, the ethnic takeover is likely part of some deal with india.

>the ethnic takeover is likely part of some deal with india.
It is. Unemployment in India is high, especially for those with college degrees. India makes it part of their trade agreements that other countries will help solve India's unemployment problem. Other countries see this is the best deal ever as they get college educated workers without the need to educate them through their childhood and college.
India understands the danger of having millions of young men with no prospects for the future. That's why they're exporting them as quickly as they can. Other countries, seeing cheap "skilled" labor, ignore that this creates millions of young men without any prospects. Getting "something for nothing" is just too seductive to resist.

??? No government in the world believes in that. That's just propaganda to make cattle believe that democracy means a Joe from Arkanses has the same political weight as Epstein. Governments don't "believe" in anything, they are simply tools of organization, and so it happens the governments all around the world are in hands of the rich who benefit from cheap labour. Would you not prefer a dirt-cheap maid or plumber if you were running a business yourself?

ADHD meds are just cheating for your lack of discipline. If it exists in school then that kid needs to go run outside for 2 hours to shut his brain up. Beyond that the method of schooling matters i can read books, testing and labs all day but i cannot sit for a lecture i give to shits about i need a lecture to be specific towards what i actually don't know for me to pay attention.

things that are "real" in psychiatry and psychology aren't real in the way anyone else understands them.
psychiatry in practice lacks pretty much any integrity and isn't held to very many standards. the way ADHD is diagnosed in the US is like a 1 page long quiz you take in the waiting room. its so lenient now you can actually do a 45 minute telehealth appointment and be prescribed stimulants first appointment.
adult ADHD is absolutely bullshit. it's supposed to be very rarely diagnosed and in edge cases where someone slipped through the cracks. instead you have completely normal adults who never had any behavioral or cognitive dysfunction getting scripted because they just want work to be easier and they burnt their brains out from tiktoking 6 hours a day. people with normal grades their entire life all through adulthood and no dysfunction at all. rather than just saying they like working on stimulants because they have zero discipline they have to come up with this obnoxious adhd identity.
its extremely overdiagnosed and its diagnosis in practice is very unscientific. i bet you like half of diagnoses in children are single parent households. its a perfect solution for them: terrible parenting style -> poorly behaved kid -> validating excuse -> meds that will help in the short term and permanently fuck them up.

adhd is a neurdevelopmental disorder so yes they would be retarded if it were an accurately diagnosed thing. being that it isnt, they are just playing into it by self identifying as a retard.

It kinda reminds me of autism. If you ever talked a back to a parent, teacher or professor about them being wrong then you can get that label slapped on you even if the topic of discussion is something you know deeply about. Being obsessed over a single topic or rotating topics is normal. Only low IQ idiots need people to nod their heads in agreement when they spout incorrect bullshit that in the real world doesn't fly in the workplace but if it does then you are surrounded by idiots.

Do things like documenting stuff take you a lot of time from repeatedly thinking "I need to do X" to actually doing/writing them? I don't mean only at work, I mean in life in general.
It's takes me weeks or even months. I've never been particularly organized or disciplined guy, but I don't remember things being this bad before.

My life runs on sticky notes and notepad++. If its really important i have a sticky note at home and on my desk for X task. If it's coming up i will have it on notepad++ for later. I have a whole list of random tasks i need to do so if i get it done once a week i am happy. If i get one household project done a week its great. The key here is that you need to find your natural pace. If you like doing the easy stuff first or hard stuff first then you will naturally prioritize in what makes sense. If you are procrastinating then you need to push through it, or move to another task. In my case i procratclean my house spotless before i push through it.

At work you need either a mental note or written down what is priority then if its not really priority you need a before lunch check to see if its getting done or will get done after. This is all highly job specific mind you.

Right, thanks anon, I gotta try different habits and ways of doing things.
I guess my main issue is that I have like 4 note taking or messaging apps (2 messaging ones that I use to send messages to myself), which makes MW forget where I wrote things. I need to use a centralized one, or maybe use them for different purposes.
Another issue is that I don't really like taking notes much because distracts me from my immediate tasks.
Finally, I'm easily distracted in a different sense too: I do stuff, then do something else and forget about the world, including what I was doing before, the thing for which I should have taken notes.
>>
>>109665800
You need to have a immediate task note taking method and a ancilary task note method. In my example my sticky notes accompany my immediate task and Notepad++ is my secondary task. My mental notes is purely priority where i know from the moment i sit at work to the moment i leave what is most important for me to do for my position. In all cases you need to always do something to completion when presented with a task. If you get pulled aside from something else it better be on your higher priority list with your dropped task added to it in the back end. This requires coordination with work, family, scheduling.

Also too many note taking apps or fucking around with something as complicated as Notion can fuck with you too since you tend to mess with it longer than the actual work at hand. I remeber watching some random youtube women doing or preparing for college saying that journaling was really just proctastination and that before classes start they just set a phone alarm with a name to go to school lectures instead. Quick and easy is what they adopted instead of organized and artist. In the military we call it ripping the bandaid off or just saying fuck it if it sucks to do.

Its not easy but you need to adjust for your actual needs first, wants second, and nice to have's last.
>>
Fucked up fairly badly at work, but nobody really cares and everyone just pokes fun instead.

Oh yeah, I forgot that I do have a tasks app too. That's a bit better in general (I've managed to add some recurring tasks, but it's still kinda hard for me to keep track of stuff).
You are right in that using complicated things is also a distractor on itself.
I use messaging apps to access them through my phone. I wish I had a single, centralized way of keeping notes and tasks (or to backup/share them easily), but when I did some research, I couldn't find shit (non-paid or non-FOSS at least; tasks.org is good, though)

I think by far the worst interview format I've gone through is:
>here's 125 lines of code
>no comments
>it's complete spaghetti (like, really bad) and has multiple bugs
>tell us what you think the code is supposed to do, then point out everything wrong and fix it, or tell us how you would fix it
>you have 45 minutes

bonus points for:
>some internal framework you've never seen, you have no idea how it works, and which also prevents the online editor from compiling the code
>the pile of shit also makes concurrent calls to background resources
incredible that I've had to do this multiple times

Just email the document to yourself as a centralized location then download to the device you want it and overwrite it. Study old tickets, see what they did to solve it and how they came to that conclusion.
Look for patterns, write down checklists.
Study the system better so you can exclude part of it a priori depending on the type of problem to isolate stuff faster

He definitely did see more than us because he had 15 years more experience, but he didn't train us to find the issues, just got mad that we didn't find whatever mystery issues he knew about. Also, the sub was in very good shape, all the officers just had to lie about what they found, or if you found a lot in one day you would spread the report out over many days

The problem is my manager does not comprehend vacations longer than a few days, especially not vacation without effectively still being on the clock in terms of reachability. He's riding my ass because most likely his manager is riding his ass (and so on), so if we have to delay the diarrhea trickles down onto me as he can point to having communicated the urgency to me multiple times.
>what about the Europeans
From previous experience shit doesn't trickle down across the Atlantic. I get calls on a Friday at 9pm for bullshit but I'm pretty sure every German employee turns his work phone off at 5pm sharp. Since my manager can't hold any of them "accountable" (read: place the blame for his bad management and time estimates on them) because their HR will call our HR and give them shit if he even thinks of complaining, he'll take it out on me and maybe some of my coworkers as usual.
>>

in my experience here, it's either

or

personally i was n.2 along with most people i've worked with.

i've never heard nobody ever getting chided for not turning their laptop on after work if they didn't want to tho.

can confirm tho that the one german i worked with did turn off his phone

I'm neither "white" or indian. I used to read multiple tech forums.
I really don't know when or why people stopped thinking of tech as the scam it is. everyone used to know and admit that this whole industry sells snake oil to retard "investors" and "customers" in exchange for billions upon billions of dollars... but now apparently everyone takes it seriously? or is 4chan just full of really fucking stupid retards?

I think my boss boss (Steve) is expecting us to be his secretary and ngl it's sorta annoying.
I'll usually get a request like
>"Hi Steve and Anon, can we book a meeting about xyzabcdefg? (that I'm rarely involved in)"
>"Hi Steve, could you review X and let us know if it looks okay for us?"
>"Team, could you review X and check if this looks okay?"
>send it back to him
>he doesn't reply back
>"Hi Steve, just looping back about X and wanted to know if this looks okay."
>I can already feel him going (hmmmm, anon can you summarize what you sent me and then I'll review if it looks okay to send to them) but then if I do the work sometimes he'll sit on it again until I talk to him directly but then he'll say hold off on it and it's this constant like I have no idea what he's really thinking and they're still bothering both of us but then I'm wondering if he wants me to do something.
fuck this fucker plays so many mind games it pisses me off. I'm not even his direct report.
>>
Tech was fun at a point but the hyperoptimization and growth WAS an issue. Once the grubby fucking MBAs got their hands on it, it's fucking over.

It's annoying too because my job is supporting a third party software and I heard it was pretty decent back in the day. When I first started 5 years ago, it seemed to not be the awful fuck it is today. Then they went full on in "minimalism UI" (looks fucking TERRIBLE), dumb "audit/security workarounds" (which is breaking most of our features), AI shoved in executives faces which is causing our already thinned out staff to test these fucking retarded features and come up with use cases for the business. Each release breaks something and I'm fucking going nutters sending mass emails to notify our internal clients and then I constantly get scrutinizing from our operational team acting like this was preventable. I hate this job so much now. It wasn't this retarded years ago and of course I get the job once this whole sector is going PEAK retardation.

I get that with at will employment, my work can make me do whatever the fuck they want. Boy it is demoralizing giving us more work, changing our job descriptions to say we get more work, and then not even paying us more. Instead saying "you now have the potential to earn more" in the future. Then getting on our asses every single day for shit not getting done as fast as they expect it to.

I'm tired bros. Would quit if I could but haven't found anything else yet and have been looking for months. Hope you are all fairing better
