So I've been reading about thermal paste for GPUs a bit, particularly the arctic mx-4. Not much info on gaming/tech forums so I had to look at reddit unfortunately. Someone posted about repasting their GPU with the mx-4 and the universal reddit response with 50 upvotes (as shown in picrel) is that its going to pump out so fast you'll have to change it in less than a year!!! Now admittedly, pump out is problematic on NVIDIA series 30 gpus, and it's applied on a direct die which means it wears out faster, so I figured sure maybe there's some truth to this,.

Upon further researching however, I stumbled across a comment (cant find it otherwise it would've been picrel) that said his mx-4, on a 2060 gpu, pumped out in a singular fucking MONTH!!!!!! I personally have a gtx 1070 (10 series card) with this specific paste and I genuinely haven't noticed problematic increases after 2 weeks. Maybe like 1-2C increase, but I play CPU heavy games and it can differ from the room ambience. What I think isn't talked about enough, however, is that most of these people have certain things in common: they're either using 30-40xx series nvidia GPUs, overclocking their hardware to death, or are NOT BUYING AUTHENTIC THERMAL PASTE. Like, I get we can now use thermal pads and have good longevity, but every product you buy (including pads) has a risk of not being authentic and it's on you to do your proper research on products you buy, instead of leaving random unsatisfied comments on something that's probably your own fault. Thermal paste should not be dying after a month of usage unless you're overclocking your gpu to play cyberpunk 10+ hours a day.

Alright, didn't see this in the OP so figured I'd ask. I'm looking for a new HDD, because I need massive long-term storage and SSDs are unaffordable. Luckily, I bought a 4TB WD SSD right before everything went tits-up, so I'm good on a boot/run drive, just need something reasonably fast for passive media/archiving.

I'm looking for something 4-8TB preferably under $250. Any suggestions? Any brands to avoid? Been a long time since I actually bought a new HDD since my old ones lasted a while, I remember people used to avoid Seagate but I don't know what the current preferences are.

MX-4 is better than the stock paste applied to most 1070 GPUs.
Letting it pump out over time isn't going to kill the GPU, the fans will have to work harder and performance might be throttled in maybe 3~5 years.

>>109727038
yea im not denying that, but everything I've read about pump out suggests its a bigger issue on newer cards and constantly replacing gpu thermal paste is mostly something overclockers do. it'll pump out like every other paste does but not within a few months lol especially if its not a fake one (yes those exist, even for mx-4). as long as it serves me for a few years im more than happy desu. as far as future planning goes, the only issue personally is having to find a genuine honeywell ptm7950 pad since im from a smaller country so to say, there are re-sellers but im not experienced enough to determine whether the pcms are genuine or not. I've looked into overseas shipping, aliexpress is risky (literally where most people get knockoffs then complain about the product as if its not their fault) and linus tech tips' store only sells the bigger 100 bucks version right now. the closest thing I can find to potentially genuine paste is currently a 4g tube of mx-7 since its from an "official" retailer in my country, I've heard positive things about it on here so unless I find a way to get a genuine pcm it'll probably be my go-to new paste. nothing's certain like I said though.

I loved SteamOS but honestly trying to get the lgbqt lighting to listen was a pain.

Back to Windows 11, threw some reverse blade fans in there and now a 5600X that hits 4.8Ghz ez the ram is 4000mhz but I have it running at 3600mhz with tighter timings.

The Rx 7600 surprises me, when I go back to my main PC with a 7800xt/5800x3d I realize I have to spend a little more time in the settings but recreating the experience at lower resolutions for my TV has been worth it. Let’s see if Black Friday has a deal for me.

Thanks, will take it under advisement. Odd because I knew Seagate was shit from way back when and the one I had forever ago is a slower, spotty drive. Somehow I'm seeing it on recommended lists and not bad reviews, but they're slower and more likely to fail right?

I've actually found a reasonably priced WD Black 6GB 7200rpm HDD, that should do it, right?

I have sighted the TCL 27C2A at the store, but decided against carrying it home despite it's surprisingly compact box. It is getting dark, I am tired and sleepy, and do not wish to get jumped by any stray negroid infection forms, drunks, junkies, or gypsies. And I have already fallen off my bike once trying to exit the parking lot.

I will attempt the next morning.

For GPUs and other bare dies the ONLY paste I would bother with is Shin-Etsu X23-7783D.
This is a standardized paste used at my job literally for everything from CPUs, GPUs and TPUs with an IHS or not.

It has a cure time, it's slightly thick, it's not top charts for performance but there is a REASON for these things and it has all to do with stability and resisting pump out.
The only other TIM that's fucked with is PTM

Of course it's probably easy for me to say as I can basically get it free whenever I want but I have bought it before.

IDK if any actual DIY/retail paste that actually doesn't try to be a scam by either being thin as hell or punishing you with cement if you dare ask for something that lasts longer than a few months.

Built my current PC just over a year ago, 9800x3d, 5070ti, 64gb ram, 1050w PSU, x870e mobo, by all accounts its been a great pc and I got the components before prices got super crazy, right when they first started to climb. I was going to buy my son a mid range pre built because it looks cheaper than trying to build one right now but I had a buddy give me some components, in a fit of rage he threw his computer into a wall a couple years ago and its been collecting dust. He had a 4090 gpu(!), the cpu was a 7950x3d, and even a 1 TB ssd was still in the motherboard. There's a 1000w PSU and a liquid cooler in what's left of the case, no ram which is fine. My question to you is this, do I test out the 4090 in my current pc and maybe even keep it in it? It has a little bit of cosmetic damage but really looks fine for the most part and would be considered an upgrade over my 5070ti? If that works I would just need to buy a new motherboard, case, and some ram basically to build a new PC with some damn good specs. Obviously nervous about what looks fine and what could actually be damaged but I think the case took the brunt of the damage. I would probably just bite the bullet and buy 32gb of DDR5 just because I dont see ram actually getting cheaper and with all those other good components I dont see the point in only getting 16gb.

The 4090 is a decent amount better than the 5070ti, being slightly more than 30% faster. Check the pcb near the pcie connector for any cracks or damage on the 4090 since the 3/4-slot cooler overloads the pcb and can cause a crack in the pcb if the gpu is moved around while installed in a pc. In case it's really cracked, the 4090 is still worth 2-3 grand because the gpu core/vram would still work and can be transplanted onto a spare 4090 pcb.

When do you need a GPU brace? The motherboard manual recommends one and probably wants one to warranty it long term.
My GPU is two fans long (not three like some long-ass cards) and just screwing the two brackets into the rear of the case was plenty that it doesn't seem wobbly or anything.
I've built PCs before but my last builds were in like 2009 and 2016, and back in my day GPUs weren't that fucking big or that fucking heavy and the idea of fucking up the PCI-E or AGP slot with card sag just wasn't a thing.

That is manufacturers being overly cautious because 1) they don't know what else is in the system and 2) have to account for people using a shanghai street vendor special psu. A 9070xt nitro - the highest clocked 9070xt out of the box - pulls 350w in peak loads*. The typical cpu pulls 80-120w and fans, drives etc maybe, MAYBE another 50w. That is a full system load of just over 500w and it is basically all 12v.

the spike to 417w over 20ms is well within what a psu should be able to absorb if it is actually a good one

The best you can do is have an x570 board with an external clockgen that lets you overclock the base clock of the CPU above 100mhz
>>
>>109735139
Any speed that keeps the parts below tjmax at full load is fine. Too many people get upset when they see 60c on parts that can do 80-95c and be within spec and have a sperg out.

5500x3d has a tjmax of 90c
3060 I believe starts throttling clocks at 85c on the hotspot
>>
>>109735139
30% won't be enough under heavier load. But that doesn't matter because you can set a fan curve so it's quiet unless it's under heavy load like the CPU being at 100% when installing shaders. You should get high pressure fans which force air into the case rather than generic blowers. 5 pack of arctic p12 are popular and are on sale on amazon right now (uk)
>>
>>109735139
Turn that top fan next to the psu into an intake. See pic, taken from;

>>
>>109735283
>no clue how to do this
Fan control. Look it up and you'll be happy once you take a few minutes to learn it.
>>
>>109735283
Just ask Gemini or any AI for a fan curve optimised for silent operation while still maintaining good airflow when required, give it your fan models, case and the layout you currently have. It'll pull the specs of each part and give you the RPMs for each stage of the curve. You'll find the fan curve settings in the bios.
>>
>>109735283
>Does this mean I should also turn one of bottom fans into an exhaust?
No they should remain intake to feed the gpu directly.
>>
>>109735213
I really doubt the intake on top isn't going to suck hot air back into the case, I'd just do 1x exhaust on top to pick up hot cpu exhaust and not starve the cpu intake of fresh air
>>
>>109735326
>But I thought you wanted positive air pressure so the case doesn't get a ton of dust.
Positive air pressure gives you dust as you are sucking air in and whatever else comes along for the ride. Dust is also not the primary concern as you should be regularly cleaning a pc.

back in the day, even tv gamers used to swap to monitors because tvs were simply slow va sloppy messes and also insanely high input lag and monitors were faster and and just were better
out of this developed the general consensus that monitors were better for gaming than tvs
tvs totally fell out as an option for devote pc gaymers except maybe 30fps console sloppers
but then came oled, everything changed again, people have now again forgotten and assume monitors are the go to still
but as we know with all things everything goes in cycles
oled came and saved large format gaming and now we are in a new age of the tv pill

Are there any pre-built PCs worth a damn for like $500ish that actually have a GPU? It doesn't have to be anything extreme but I'd like to play games with friends. Or is this a question better suited for the stupid questions thread?
>>
>>109733453
That was retarded then.
>>
>>109735976
80C isn't a normal operating temperature for a low power GPU like a 3060.
>>
>>109736316
Not nearly as quickly as OLED. OLED just like plasma is a short lived technology while everyone waits for micro LED screens to become affordable. OLED organic material degrades way quicker than LED by a factor of about 3x or more.
>>
>>109736316
>>109736332
That's kind of an unsubstantiated cope lol
>>
>>109736464
They're pretty weird people OLED shills. Like it's a cool tech but has it's obvious huge downsides which is what puts 90% of people off because they're also a premium price.
>>
Trying out a joystick on a monitor for the first time is so liberating, wtf
If they need to save costs WHY can't they just arrange buttons in a d-pad configuration?
>>
>>109736491
Not really. My 3080 used to get that temp when stress testing but it's also a massively more power hungry card.
>>
I should be getting a 5080 build for what I need to spend on a 9070xt build
>>
>>109734519
Let me guess.
They don't compare DLSS and FSR.
They don't compare productivity.
And they don't compare RT and PT.
And they compare the worst possible deal on a 5060Ti to the best possible deal on a 9070 XT?

Its in another tab somewhere, but you should check what their actual prebuilt prices are before you settle

>>109736519
Furmark is essentially a power virus and it hammers a gpu way, waaaay harder than anything else. It isn't like a 3060 has a cooler on it rated for 300w like a 3080 might do.
>>
>>109736519
3080 is a triple slot cooler at much higher tdp. 3060 is single slot to dual slot cooler which is barely enough for half tdp.

Mini led can't escape being an LCD and having viewing angle issues
>>
>>109736533
Undervolting the GPU is the obvious course of action here. There's some guy on YouTube called imwateringpsu or something like that who gives a bunch of undervolt or undervolt+overclock targets which work on 95% of cards.
>>
>>109736581
Unfuck your camera settings before using them as 'proof' of lcd bloom (which miniled solves with plenty of zones).

>>109736631
RTings showed that miniled tvs suffer catastrophic failure faster than oleds, people who were coping about lcd lasting longer than oled have been taking L's ever since
They are now coping by saying that it was an unrealistic test condition and TVs are brighter and hotter than monitors

yes it lasts lionger if nothing else regarding to the display operation does not fail before then, but that's a gamble

>>109736642
I was just mildly adding more flame to the fire at a some what relevant comment

bigger question is if the actual electronics in total will hold up and not fuck up during that time
>>
>>109736630
>there is no alternatives though
There are tons of alternatives. I've been using both OLED TVs and MiniLED TVs for years now and they're pretty much identical experiences. You wouldn't know the OLED cost 2x the price or the MiniLED was half the price. They're both good for gaming. I use the MiniLED for competitive games because I play in SDR on my PC and crank the brightness to max for visibility reasons since HDR has too many brightness fluctuations for my liking.

Maybe if this was 6 years ago before MiniLED came along. Backlight zones have increased to the thousands and algorithms have come an insanely long way since FALD first debuted.

pixel transitions not the backlight
the new rgb minileds tvs are the worst of them all too even worse than last gen
>>
>>109736731
RGB mini LED is a new tech that just debuted so it'll have it's own teething issues just like QD OLED did with the S95B or the WOLEDs with MLA which caused a purple tint on white screens. Regardless, for most people, the benefits of OLED aren't glaringly obvious unless you actually research what to look for e.g. turning off all your lights and putting on a HDR video clip of 4000 nit stars in space. Under regular usage the differences are indistinguishable. You couldn't go wrong with either except for the fact one costs much more.

I definitely should have waited to install Windows 11 on at least one machine before buying this monitor to be able to properly because right now HDR is very wonky on Windows 10, I have no browsers that support HDR (or games for that matter), I can't use NVIDIA RTX HDR, so I'm basically limited to SDR local dimming for now.

The maximum and minimum brightness is good at least and it's definitely easier on the eyes. Response times seem also pretty good, they feel close to my 240Hz 1080p monitor. And 4K feels great on the eyes, it's like putting on glasses. It's crazy to think that 5K is even sharper than 4K at 27 inches.
>>
>>109736872
Oled monitors are much worse than their tvs but the inherent panel limitations still carry across like the raised blacks on qdoled here
>>109736803
>>
>>109736921
I can get a great oled monitor under 400 euros and the cheapest are under 300 euros. The cheapest OLED tv is nearly double that price
>>
>>109736975
And Oled tvs are much better. Oled monitors are still fundamentally flawed in many ways. When getting the best picture out of a panel requires fundamental hardware changes, you know it's bad.
>>
>>109737020
Which OLED tv models or brands do you recommend then? And not 2000 euros ones
>>
all that matters is you get qd oled. if its woled say no.
>>
>>109737078
I found one brand new at 320 euros. Should I get it?
The other one I want to get instead is the Asus Rog Strix OLED XG27AQDMGR Gen 2 which is 380 euros

I wouldn't buy any of the current models from the last few years for both personal requirements reasons and just general flaws reasons desu. I feel like the last genuine problem free LG oled was like the C3 or C4 maybe. C5 has an annoying dithering issue which is especially shit for PC gaming if you're up close. C6 still has the issue and not as bad, but there are issues with gaming which may or may not be fixed and costs 2k anyway.
Samsung is annoying because the software is garbage and your TV is always available to all your neighbours as a casting device which can't be turned off the last time I checked. The TVs are supposed to be good though. S90f maybe.
>>
>>109737105
why are the colors so different?
>>
>>109737129
Probably different color settings. The dithering is annoyingly obvious though and their monitors still have this issue and need new gen tech to fix it.
>>
>>109736779
>Under regular usage the differences are indistinguishable
*moves camera*
the smearing is apparent
but idk maybe not maybe its a good tv maybe idk maybe could be
or you arent looking

>RGB mini LED is a new tech that just debuted so it'll have it's own teething issues
the new tv panels are even slower than the year older minileds
even slower!

>>109736803
non issue

>>109736872
tvs have way more calibration settings than monitors
essentially the same thing though both using same types of displays digital inputs

>>109736975
truth be told.... anti tv pillers were poorfags all along
you can buy a 55" flagship oled tv on sale for less than the flagship oleds cost still though

>>109737028
>And not 2000 euros ones
S95F 55" is like 1500€
S90F 65" is like 1500€
and you can probably get them 20% cheaper on even better sales
man I really should have consoomed on sale a while ago
remember in eu only the s90f 65" and s90h 77" are qdoled, or might vary in region

>>109737105
every one after c2 had dithering
>Samsung is annoying because the software is garbage and your TV is always available to all your neighbours as a casting device which can't be turned off the last time I checked.
you have to block the incomming connection multiple times before perma block
maybe they changed behavior in new firmware
you buy samsung because the qdoled meme though literally it
>>
>>109737209
Smearing is a issue that varies even on the same models just like backlight uniformity. All the ones I've got have been mostly perfect fortunately.

>you have to block the incomming connection multiple times before perma block
I had a Samsung qled for a few weeks once and this issue kept coming up and even today I can see my neighbors tv on my phone cast list, and actually I can see other peoples LGs on it now too after just checking so it's universal garbage by both oled brands.

>you buy samsung because the qdoled meme though literally it
When they get SDR to 600 nits+ full field I'll consider it
