Many brands make electrostatic headphones.
>>
That hongshu thing is bundled with AMP, so price is really good. Also Moondrop is doing electrostat called Moonzero. But without amp so you have to provide it yourself.
It feels like chinks are going from pumping out new planars to pumping out new dds and electrostats. Nothing wrong with that, it feels like planars are solved with strongest magnets, crazy thin membranes and silver/gold traces. Im waiting more for new DD designs from Aune ane maybe others will follow.
Still much more intresting than 100s of IEMs pumped out every year

Don't know where else to ask, this looks like the thread for it:
I'm looking for a stereo amp that can work as a USB DAC for my PC to amplify my passive speakers, but which also has RCA out and can switch between the two inputs (either with a hard switch, or even better, 12v trigger). Preferably in the ~100W range. Bonus if it has headphones out and a volume knob.

The idea is that I power my front stereo speakers using a compact, low idle power stereo amp. And if I want 7.1 audio I turn on my AVR, and use the two front speakers through pre-outs. My AVR can do this (it can have the front speakers configured into pre-amp mode). This would get me low idle power for simple music and I could leave it running nonstop, and it would free up 2 amplifier channels on the AVR I can use for future expansion.

Only problem is that I can barely find anything that does this?
>>
>>109759385
Why not get a separate DAC for PC and a stereo amp with two inputs, or a switch.
>>
>>109759470

Accidentally found what you're looking for, AIYIMA A80. But I don't know what it's going to do if both digital and RCA are connected, you'll have to look it up. Amps with dual inputs usually have one balanced and one unbalanced and there are issues with having both connected too.

Douk a5 for the amp, any dongle for the DAC, jcally jm20 for example. It has impedance sensing so it'll work as line out with 2V output. RCA switches should be entirely passive but check the reviews just in case.

I did and they're pretty sick, but require a monster amp to drive to a respectable volume due to the tech involved.

black pearl DAC doesn't work with my hifiwalker h2. I don't understand why
>>
>>109759810
That sounds like building a frankenstein monster. Also most of the signal would travel analog, and since I'm only using RCA, would be susceptible to interference, of which I have a lot.

I thought about pairing a Fosi ZA3+ZD3 (with XLR) but that's more expensive than the Aiyima.

Seems there are a lot more models that are like what I want: Aiyima D05, SMSL AL200, Douk Audio ST-01 PRO... looks like most use similar if not the same components, for ex. Fosi Audio DA2120C is a clone of the Aiyima D05. This is just with a quick online search. The Douk looks the best with the nice large knob that I'd enjoy playing around with, plus it has bass/treble knobs too, preferable to those all-in one crap where you have 1 knob that acts as menu, power, volume, input selection, muting, whatever the fuck depending on how long you press it. Alas the Douk is not available here.
I'd prefer something that once set up, only has 1 button to power on/off, 1 button to switch input from usb to rca, and a volume knob... hate all this multifunctional nonsense. If it has a menu then at least add an option to disable those inputs or add a quick select, like big boy AVRs can do.

Stealth revisions give you a thrill while making a purchase. There are no two identical sets of a given KZ model. It's like with Commodore SID - every single piece of this legendary chip sounded different.

My Letshuoer S12 (Pro) has developed treble distortion after water damage.

Any tips for replacement? I don't eq at all, listen to almost everything (from harsh noise and field recordings to delicious pop). Most importantly, I have started to listen to music at much lower volumes.

My DAC is TRN Black Pearl. I was very satisfied with the S12, my budget is anything between 50 and 150EUR.

>There are no two identical sets of a given KZ model
if that's the weak generalization you wanna give for them as a whole, the same could be said to an extent, for most IEM companies.
it doesn't take away the fact that a particular model that "was good at this or that", or "lived up to the hype" was experienced for the most part by everyone that got that model. their inconsistencies aren't the whole truth.
of course stealth revisions happen, that's well known- they make quick cost-cutting decisions or revisions depending on the circumstance and it's no secret.
still doesn't take away from particular models of theirs being good for what they are and those qualities being noticed for what those models produce on their own. given their reputation, the hype tends to still be there for a reason, when it works, it works.

>>
>>109764690
sure, v-shape can be a broad subjective descriptor. but that's why I'm asking what “average” is supposed to establish here.
if “average” can be arbitrarily broad because the characterization isn't needed, then I don't see how it supports the claim that EDC Pro is endgame.
what property of being market average is actually relevant to that conclusion?

if the point is "it has adequate full range extension, so you're less likely to run into limits when EQing it," then why call the tuning itself average as part of the endgame argument?
>>
Redeemed Juzear Defiant after people hyping it massively all around the interwebs, took a listen and found it fucking unlistenable due to a massive painful peak in the treble. Neither narrow bores or ribbed bores eliminated or even reduced this issue. It was fucking atrocious and made me feel that I'm a just one step from permanent hearing damage. The only tips that made it listenable for more than a few minutes was Kiwi Ears Flex in the L size, making them stick out of my ears like joysticks and still sound subpar.
But I didn't want to give up. I consoomed more and more eartips, tried them on and hoped for the best. After a few sets of tips I tried since, I finally found the perfect match.
It's SpinFit CP145. Not the newer W1 or NEO - they failed miserably. The old CP145, size: S. However, there's a trick that had to be done: I had to use silicone rings, roughly 1mm thick, as spacers that make the tips go deeper into my ears. It was the best compromise between having deep insertion and not risking the tips slipping off from the nozzles and staying inside my ears. Then I just shoved them deep into my ears... and suddenly it became clear why people shill this set so much.
The painful peak is gone, now there's just a bite in the treble that I just imagine is closer to the original vision of Zeos when he tuned this pos. It's therefore been not just salvaged, but also fixed. Now I enjoy my Defiant immensely.
I can't recommend the Defiant due to my own experiences, getting lost and investing in a bunch of eartips to make it sound acceptable (the fact that it suddenly started to sound straight up excellent is another topic). However, not everyone has the same retarded ears like me, apparently most people don't.
>>
>>109764760
You enjoy it now, which is all that matters. The general consensus is that it is enjoyable so your ears apparently aren't retarded.

>>
>>109764796
>acceptable tuning
I guess that's a more useful term. but then I still don't see what "acceptable tuning" contributes to the endgame argument beyond making it a decent starting point for EQ.
if the actual objective case is "full-range extension, low enough distortion, enough EQ headroom means there's no meaningful reason to spend more", then that's the argument I'd make.
calling the stock tuning "average" or "acceptable" doesn't establish any of that by itself, it just describes how usable the stock FR is.
if you are irritated by people being 'pedantic', try not to defend an irrelevant premise this hard

>beyond making it a decent starting point for EQ.
in the current climate of EQ capabilities, this is important. if you stay within the price range, you will see a lot of undamped 1DD that require more than 2 filters to fix only the resonances. when you are limiteed to 5 or 8 filters with only peaks, you start running into real constraints
>full-range extension, low enough distortion, enough EQ headroom means there's no meaningful reason to spend more
with the addition of the presence of eargain. i guess my statement wasn't clear enough for you
> t just describes how usable the stock FR is.
yes, i have stated that and why this is important wrt EQ use
>>
>>109764907
>when you are limiteed to 5 or 8 filters with only peaks, you start running into real constraints.
mehhhh..autoEQing to JM-1 and adjusting low-shelf and high-shelf filters to taste is way easier and more effective for practical use than worrying about whether a $3 IEM needs more than 5-8 manual filters
>>
>>109765225
they are not directly related. endgame for me is a device that can work under multiple contexts and situations, and most dongles that have EQ functionality are limited in band numbers.
if you try to EQ something like the AK6, you are already using 8 filters to barely reach any target, nevermind any preference/anatomical adjustments
>>
>>109765306
I get distinction. you're defining endgame as versatility across constrained EQ implementations rather than simply maximum performance.

probably yes, some drivers are airtight, only side with nozzle leaks sound, some of them need some venting but its also done by silicon tube, some of them need larger chamber but its also from side that produces sound.
Also remember that on more expensive side entire iem is drowned in resin. So drivers needs to be airtight from that side for it to work.

everything is closed inside drivers and silicon tubes. Shell does not matter at all, if your drivers, tubes and other tuning stuff is same u can change shell however u want as long as everything fits inside.
Even if shell itself is used for sound canals or sound chambers it also deos not matter because these chambers are cut off from outside world by drivers, evertyhing is on your ear canal side so everything behind drivers is irrelevevant to how they sound.

Here is how it looks while u designing it, u just need good seal between tubes, nozle and drivers and thats it, everything outside that does not matter at all and u can measure and tweak ur design without assembling it to final state each time

The "openbackness" comes from how much acoustic energy is dissipated in the surroundings and is not reflected back to the ear.

Ideal openback driver is an undampened dipole, which is not the case how conventional IEM drivers are made, aka unidirectional and almost completely encased in plastic or metal. You can change the dampening on the shell and the drivers and it will change the FR, but the drivers themselves are closed backs to begin with.

There are some openback iems like STAX tho, but I've never tried them, they graph ass and reviews are mixed so never really bothered with them.

would you guys have any recommendations or anything i should keep in mind if i think im averse to "warm" sound. id very much like to get iems for compactness though unfortunately ive only used anc bt headphones in recent years like most people that dont think about audio too much i imagine so i don't have much to go on as to what i like. im guessing id prefer flatter sounding stuff though because whenever i used something that sounded like its on the "warmer"/bassier side i couldn't stand it. ive used stuff from sony, apple, bang & olufsen, jbl etc. maybe i shouldnt discount that kind of sound in better wired stuff completely because probably none of what ive used would be considered "good" sound devices, but ive tended to dislike that kind of sound and its like all i have to go on.

I finally managed to limit my DAC choices to either the SMSL D1 or D200, due to the amazing DSD bypass feature.

what difference does balanced have on a DAC? I know on an AMP it increases voltage and thus power, but idk about it on DACs.
>>
>>109776720
On DACs it also increases the voltage and may help with ground loops.

Science works, folks.
>>
>>109776657
The key part is
>brass instruments
The seal from IEMs disfigures my perception of my own sound so much from what I'm used to acoustically that it's difficult to play in tune, or in general to just play as comfortably as I'm used to.
With a small band, I hear most things acoustically anyways, so the monitors are more just to boost vocals (which do get drowned out), some of the quieter instruments, and maybe the kick which is far away from me in our typical stage setup, while eliminating any chance of feedback.

That said, not sure why I'm wasting my breath talking about stage monitoring, as I'm the only person ITT that has ever used IEMs as in-ear monitors.
>>
>>109777041
>buying random harman pos will give something that sounds nothing like harman
>>
>>109776720
single ended DACs share the ground, such as the D1, which is inherently noisier

a balanced DAC sends the same signal twice per channel (once inverted) the difference between the 2 signals is 'line noise', which is then cut out, ie any potential interference/ground loops
this leaves you with an overall cleaner signal to add gain to with the AMP

it does not increase your AMPs capacity, the output will be louder though, due to the signal being louder at the input stage

anyway, why the fuck do you want DSD bypass if you don't know any of this
also none of it makes an audible difference, some very power hungry headphones (about 0.000000001%) may benefit from it

not saying it's not nice to have, luxury is always nice, only when you can afford it
don't be an audiofool, don't buy into stupid shit because you think it will give you some magic sound, it won't

ok thanks good to know. what's a good amp to drive the HE6/Susvara? I have neither but I want to futureproof my amp and have the mentality of 'if it can drive the HE6 it can drive anything (other than electrostats)". I'm choosing between A90, A90D, A50 III, L70 and maybe A70 Pro but that's a bit pricy. also open to other suggestions. the D200 is $300 so I don't want to spend more than $500-$600 total. if I don't need much power maybe the A50 III is good.

>anyway, why the fuck do you want DSD bypass if you don't know any of this
because most DACs, other than really good PCM ones like Chord's, handle DSD better, even delta-sigma ones because then the DAC has to work a lot less to convert a DSD than a PCM one, and a DSD bypass is even better because it skips the delta sigma and DSP processes altogether so the DAC does even less work. and most of my music is in DSD format and even my PCM I upscale to DSD on the fly due to reasons above.

not my fault delta sigma DACs are shit
>>
>>109777467
>not my fault delta sigma DACs are shit
doesn't actually rescue the PCM to DSD argument. most modern DACs are delta-sigma because delta-sigma conversion is extremely effective at implementing high-performance conversion. “delta-sigma” isn't synonymous with “bad sounding.”
if delta-sigma DACs are shit, why does converting PCM to a 1-bit noise-shaped format before feeding the delta-sigma DAC make the DAC less shit
>>
>>109777537
because CPUs are much better more efficient and more accurate at the conversion process than DACs are. for delta sigma it's much harder to process a PCM signal which leads to them working harder and using harsher filters. on my current DAC (no DSD bypass, but delta sigma) DSD files are smoother and less harsh than PCM ones, even when I upscale PCM to DSD.
>>
>>109777598
>CPUs are much better more efficient and more accurate at the conversion process than DACs are.
why are you assuming the DAC's PCM processing is the limiting factor in the first place? modern delta-sigma DACs are literally designed to take PCM, interpolate/filter it and feed it into a delta-sigma modulator.
feeding it DSD doesn't make the DAC suddenly work less in some inherently higher fidelity way when it can simply select a different processing path depending on the chip.
if your particular DAC sounds smoother with DSD, that's because different digital filters/modulator paths produce different measurable behaviors. but that's the difference in implementations, not proving that PCM is worse or that delta-sigma DACs are shit. and if you're doing PCM to DSD in software, you're not removing the conversion, you're just moving the conversion upstream and you're also adding another processing step to the chain.
if you have measurements showing that your DAC's PCM path has worse distortion/noise/filtering than its DSD path, that's actually interesting. “DSD sounds smoother to me” isn't evidence that the DAC is simply better at DSD.

Realistically, you are never gonna use it. You will download a few .DSD albums, spend half an hour setting up a direct DSD playback on your computer (yes it is not that straightforward as it is not natively supported), realize that this has zero acoustic benefits but just makes the whole experience tedious and get back to normal PCM formats. It doesn't make a D200 a bad choice though, just the argumentation is weird.

lets say that the best TWS is worse than the worst hifimans
>>
>>109783243
>hurr durr I worship graphs even though the people making those measurements are just as unreliable and shouldn't be expected to consistently have every single IEM perfectly and accurately coupled if something as simple as insertion depth is so variable and affects so much.
>>
>>109783825
I didn't ask about hifimans. I didn't even mention headphones- you did.
and the question had nothing to do with whether there are really bad wired IEMs.
are the best TWS worse than the worst wires IEMs?
>>
>>109783805
>never will.
Me, personally, I've heard every single TWS out there, so you are wrong

The (delta/sigma) .dsd magic is for when you have AKM 4497/9
>>
>>109784295
nothing is gained from DSD over PCM. no new "details" from the audio, nothing.

Agree no measurable difference in frequency reconstruction.
Clocking of the Bit Depth feels more impressive. I don't know what this domain even is.
The Neve console recording masters in .dsd over flagship AKM are remarkable.
>>
>>109784398
hello?
>>109784459
“clocking of the bit-depth” isn't really a thing. bit depth and clocking are separate concepts and DSD is a 1-bit, very high rate, noise-shaped stream rather than PCM's multi bit samples.
I don't doubt that those neve DSD masters sound remarkable, but that's a statement about the recording/mastering chain and the particular master, not proof that DSD itself is responsible for the result.
my point still stands about DSD not providing any extra amount of detail in the audio itself that otherwise was "missing" or inaudible from PCM.

So, is EDC Pro endgame or not?
>>
>>109784687
Not with that faceplate.
>>
>>109784687
not even close. it's like asking, "are AKG EO-IG955s with SpinFit W1 eartips calibrated to the PEQdB Diamond target curve endgame?"
>>
>>109784687
if you know what minimum phase is, yes
if you don't know, keep climbing the ladder
>>
>>109784726
what makes you think 'minimum-phase' counts as a talking point when not all IEMs are minimum-phase?

What are some budget IEMs good for gaming?

Meme youtubers shill the Tripowin Vivace. Should I get that or something else?
>>
>>109784759
If your IEM isn't minimum phase you upgrade to one that is.
>>
>>109784768
>minimum-phase
>upgrade to
first I ever heard of that arbitrary 'requirement' lol. who told you that?

Do you need to be told to wipe your ass too? It's obvious minimum phase is better.
>>
>>109784763
if you know they are meme youtubers and they're shilling it, why are you considering it????

you know you can just easily edit the IR in REW, right?? I mean cmon, techs are just two clicks away XD

you really like to be spoon-fed, huh. read what im replying to then you'll realize edc pro is 1DD, therefore minimum phase, it can be eqd to anything, it's endgame
>>
>>109784853
>edc pro is 1DD, therefore minimum phase, it can be eqd to anything
same can be said about any DD, then.
which makes any cheaper DD than EDC Pro more valid an endgame choice.

AKG EO-IG955 is free, though.

>battery is 6-7h
Maybe with sensitive IEMs. I get about 3h with Hifiman HE400se planars.

Also it uses a CS43131 DAC with no firmware option to disable the broken DRE feature other than enabling NOS mode which disables it as a side effect, so you're forced to chose between bass distortion, ultrasonics causing audio frequency IMD, or manually oversampling everything to 192kHz FLAC at massive cost to storage (but see lossywav preprocessor for a way to reduce this somewhat). No gapless playback either.

I don't recommend it as it. If they upgrade the firmware for DRE disable mode and gapless playback (even just CUE support, which does not work despite the FAQ claiming it does) it would be good enough.

yeah no, edc pro moggs
>>
>>109784966
Shit doesn't even matter for audio. Many IEMs are made with inverted absolute polarity anyway- like Hexa, so who should give a flying fuck about these autismo non-essentials?
