modern models ruin old images.

The posts in the previous thread are correct. We've moved on from grainy piss-filters to over-textured renders. They flatten the original image's depth of focus by making everything look overly busy with false details.

I half-joked about the nearly unprompted big booba before, but even Microsoft's mai-image series is doing well on Arena and I think that it doesn't do that...The whole thing might be biased for novelty.

Google not updating meaningfully Nano Banana is likely, at least in part, a consequence of Google's overall mess with frontier models, 3.5 Pro was supposed to be out in June, it's September and their "best" model is still supposedly a preview one released in February (3.1 Pro).

>(such as those regarding hunting and the man vs. nature relationship, for instance).
Oh, I honestly didn't expect this particular bit, I was under half the impression that that stuff was ignored, or teased, like with my obsessive falconry gens back then, as pure autism. My views on the whole thing are complex, I appreciate the idea and aesthetic much more than the actual people and practice.
>The whole robot/mech side of things has me way less interested, but I guess I'll see how it develops. And wow, that opening song *slaps*!
Personally I was *much* more interested in the mecha side back then, but I'm actually much less impressed about them today. Not sure whether it reflects a growing pessimism on technology in general or it's more limited to how technology gets always applied to kill people in increasingly efficient ways (AI today is very relevant). In Evangelion they're essentially plot-devices anyway, there are whole episodes with them doing nothing or almost. And yeah, the opening is very cool, it might have hooked quite a few early on.

Keep it up with the gens. Did you try Flow/NBP? It's especially good if you want to emulate a specific artist.

A detailed 2D cel-shaded animation still with a strictly cool color palette (blues, teals, grays, and deep purples). Inside a dark, decaying brutalist building with peeling walls and rubble, a Caucasian male operative is on patrol. He wears stylish, complex urban camouflage techwear, a tactical vest, and a balaclava covering his lower face. He grips his equipment tightly. Through the eye-hole of the balaclava, his eyes show a slightly nervous, paranoid expression with a furrowed brow. Sharp graphic outlines, dramatic anime-style rim lighting in cyan.

A blurry, low-resolution 35mm film photograph of a ghostly human silhouette inside a dark, haunted mansion. Strong motion blur and soft focus create an eerie, experimental atmosphere. Heavy film grain, high contrast, deep shadows, muted blacks, desaturated blue-green and brown tones, dim ambient light, decaying interior, ominous composition, unsettling dark mood, analog imperfections, cinematic horror photography.

A moody, lo-fi aesthetic portrait of a man in a three-piece suit who is judging you. He has his arms crossed and is looking down at you with a stern expression. The room is dark and shadowy, but the window is a source of intense, warm sunlight that highlights the dust in the air. The color palette is composed of deep blues, muted grays, and warm oranges. The image has a distinct analog film quality, with soft grain and subtle light leaks.

Semi-realistic anime movie still, oil painting style, muted desaturated color palette. A comely young Caucasian woman with pale white skin, golden blonde hair, and a slender frame walks toward a post-apocalyptic fortified survivor camp. She wears a faded bandana, a distressed, tattered long dress, and is barefoot, toes visible on cracked earth. The camp features a tall wooden palisade wall topped with barbed wire, a heavy gate, and a manned checkpoint. Gentle wind blows her hair and dress. Bright sunny day, soft golden light, long shadows. Do you write those prompts or ask an AI?

> My views on the whole thing are complex, I appreciate the idea and aesthetic much more than the actual people and practice.
Oh, I think I know what you mean there, about the idea of it vs. the average people practicing it today. Having been a vegetarian for close to two decades now, and quite strongly left-leaning myself, it's precisely finding that appreciation for the idea in a comrade which I find thought-provoking, and really interesting: I see how it can arise rather logically from an anarchist point of view, it's just that this is not the background I'm coming from, hence the interest for your views.
> In Evangelion they're essentially plot-devices anyway, there are whole episodes with them doing nothing or almost.
I thought that might be the case, but it's good to hear! About to continue with episodes 4-6 or so, tonight :)
> Keep it up with the gens. Did you try Flow/NBP? It's especially good if you want to emulate a specific artist.
Not yet, although I do intend to do so: this >>109776268 was genereated with ChatGPT, based on prompts and images I used to generate on Sora last year or so, and I was very surprised (in a bad way) by how much it departed from the style of my own former gens, which I was trying to emulate. Picrel is one of those older Sora gens I used as stylistic reference.

I write the basic prompt, then Arena optimizes and reorganize it. With the prompt rewritten, I generate the image, and if the result is not satisfactory, I modify the prompt until final result.

I find it rewarding to work on one's prompts. I prefer to spend time configuring each word to achieve a specific result than to ask a chatbot.

Of course, I cannot achieve the same result without Arena to complement my initial ideas.
Of course, I sometimes use AI to analyze an image I like for the main ideas of my prompt.

It would be hypocritical to claim that the ideas come 100% from my own mind. However, it would be dishonest to claim that I asked AI to write everything for me.

Oh, I can see why it intrigued you then. Yeah, an anarchist view can be compatible with the idea of Man within Nature, hunting as an ecological act done without establishing domination and permanent hierarchy. I came to anarchism from my own view of ecologism and from criticising the idea that Man stands outside Nature (an idea that I held for a long time). If you don't mind the question, how did you come vegetarianism? Personal experience with industrial/capitalistic farming? I guess you'll find out that Rei is vegetarian and I subvert that. Evangelion's "spiritual prequel", Nadia The Secret of the Blue Water, deals with the theme in even more direct and heavy ways (there's literally a scene where they kill and eat "Bambi").

On 4o, yeah, the model actually had some good aesthetics that got lost with the new ones. An anon time ago was also pointing out how its anime style was nicer, more cute in my opinion, than what it generates nowadays.

Appreciating and studying religion as a socio-cultural phenomenon without giving it any metaphysical significance. The mother-goddess idea goes back to the palaeolithic "Venus" figurines then it manifested through Isis, Cybele and only lastly Mary/Miriam. In some contexts, it's a nearly uninterrupted thing.
>>109802602
My guess, too. And I suppose that they do use some methods to compensate the different samplings, to an extent or another. But I see some kind of risk in this whole thing becoming really some kind of "I give you compute, you help me pushing my rating". gpt-image-2.5-sunburst being available in direct mode is also a plausible sign that OpenAI, for instance, is using Arena to promote itself, again. Of course, Google itself might have done that for a long time, I spent months literally leeching NBP 2K from Arena.
