This isn't quite the ideal thread for this, but there's not really an obvious better option:Does anybody know anything about MST hubs?I have two monitors, but I don't wanna have two cables running from my laptop to both displays, and would rather have a single cable going from my laptop to a hub, and then a displayport (or USB C to displayport) cable from the hub to monitor A, and a HDMI cable from the hub to monitor BIs that possible? I looked at some hubs on Amazon but I didn't see any that seem to have both Displayport/USB C and HDMI outsIn general I can't find much info about MST hubs and I'd rather find someone or a guide that explains what to look for or avoid with them rather then just buying one at random

I've ordered the MSI MAG 272QP QD OLED X24 but found it it isn't TB400 certified. Should I return it?
Finally bought my own big rig recently. Has an XL sized sleeper cab that'll allow me proper room for gaming on the go. I play single player games 99% of the time and have been on the fence about building a PC or just buying a gaming laptop.>inb4 gaming laptopI know I know, but it would make things far more convenient. Power efficiency is a real concern of mine as well as reliability. Would I be better off building a lower power PC or just getting a laptop from a company like Sager? Are laptop "RTX 5070's" actual 5070s or just vastly cut down ones? I was looking to build something with the 7800X3D in it and a 9070 GRE, downclocking it all. Would have to be an ITX build.
>>109826588just get a laptop nigga having a pc in a setup like that is incovenient af. also no the laptop 5070 is not a desktop 5070, i would push for a laptop 5070ti at the very least for the extra vram. this video has more benchmarks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EN7aGYNvZx0&t=730s
which hdr mode is better true black 400 or peak 1000?
>>109826572>SDR: 200>HDR: 400 (Typ.) It has the lower bin panel, the costlier QD-OLED monitors can guarantee at least 250 nits maximum SDR brightness. The official spec sheet is claiming it can't guarantee all panels can't hit 400 nits peak brightness with HDR enabled, but most can (typical peak HDR brightness).https://www.msi.com/Monitor/MAG-272QP-QD-OLED-X24/SpecificationYou should read the store's monitor return policy carefully before you unbox the monitor (restocking fee etc.)The brightness specs don't matter too much if you usually keep SDR brightness near 100~150 nits.
Found out my PC was randomly restarting with a kernel power 41 error because of a faulty CPU. Serves me right to buy one from a physical store. Just bought the same model online and haven’t experienced any random restarts for 3 days. It’s too bad I didn’t try this 4 months ago. So much potential gaming time has been lost, and I won’t be able to spend much time on it now that college started again.
>>109826649Peak 1000 gets brighter highlights like explosions or sun glares, but it can artificially brighten dark scenes.True Black 400 prioritizes accurately displaying dark scenes, but highlights won't be as bright (400 vs 1K nits peak highlight). True Black 400 tracks the industry-standard PQ (Perceptual Quantizer) reference curve with higher accuracy in dark-to-mid tones, ensuring shadow detail isn't crushed or unnaturally boosted.Try out both and pick whichever you prefer.Monitor Unboxed HDR performance review section covers this stuff.
>>109826626Looking at pic related. Hoping the cooling system is actually up to snuff. I figured I was going to have to spend $150k on a semi truck of my own and it came in under $86k by buying from a friend of a friend of a co-workers brother, so I figure inflated gaming laptop prices aren't a huge deal. Wish me luck.

>>109826709Ive never heard of that brand but apparently they work with Clevo so its definitely at least a real company. If i was spending that much on a laptop id make sure the after sales support is good, lenovo/dell usually the best with that stuff. Good luck.
>>109826505i missed the not well thats pretty easy
>>109826746Yeah Sager is basically Clevo in the US. They use basic Clevo chassis and are very plain compared to companies like Alienware for instance. My buddy has a very basic Sager with an RTX 3050 Ti in it he bought years ago that is still going at 100% with no downsides or problems so far and he's been using it for gaming and actual school work. That was only a $1500 laptop then, so surely a laptop 4 times more expensive is just as reliable? We'll find out.
>>109826658Yeah if I want to return it I'll just let the monitor at the pick up point until it's resent to them. I actually usually keep the brightness very low, in that case does the HDR peak brightness specs matters?
>>109826721Not yet. My second CPU is still within the refund window, so I can still send it back or keep it depending on whether AMD gives me a refund or a replacement part.
>>109826792>in that case does the HDR peak brightness specs matters? That monitor appears to not support Peak 1000 nits HDR mode, so maximum HDR brightness will be capped to 400 nits.I'd only keep the monitor if you got it at a really nice discount.Return it if you spent a decent chunk of money. It's not "bad", but it's hard to say whether you'll be fine with the HDR 400 nits brightness cap without seeing it for yourself.I use TB400 for HDR but many other ppl, including Monitor Unboxed Tim, prefer the peak 1000 option. The monitor is TB400 certified, at least MSI's official store page claims it.https://us-store.msi.com/MAG-272QP-QD-OLED-X24

Just installed a 5800x3d to replace a 3900x, and I'm having trouble figuring out what's normal for the hotter chip, and what might be me fucking up the thermal paste or the cpu cooler being too loose. (NH-D15S, Arctic) Or maybe some kind of fault/defect.CPU usage % always seems a lot higher than the 3900x, obviously because it only has 2/3 of the cores, or is this is a "positive" result of the 5800X3D taking up more tasks due to being moderately faster and having the X3D features? It seems to spike a lot in certain uses, and plateau at a level that I literally never saw with the 3900x even in stress tests. For instance, with a low-speed fan curve the HWinfo stress test would get the 3900x to around 79C, cinebench something similar. In HWinfo the 5800X3D with the same fan curve seems unworkable at 86C. I didn't work out an ideal fan curve for the 5800X3D because I'm worried it's not working as intended, but with CPU and case fans at 100% (not a long-term solution), it's stable at 75C, still a few C hotter than 3900X would be, but expected.In-game performance is peculiar - when loading games it spikes up over 80C and if I have a youtube video in a browser it glitches out with crackling pauses. Is that normal in a core-limited scenario or is this CPU weird in throwing all its multi-core attention at games? In 3D games (SM2, 2077, RDR2) it seems hotter but relatively moderate at the high 60s, but in CPU-heavy games like EU5 it spikes over 82 regularly and the steady state is 75C (admittedly this was observer mode testing max speed, but slowing it down didn't change much). The 3900X typically was in the 60s when gaming, worst case ~74C in a heatwaveIdle temperatures are reasonable - it gets as low as 43C when nothing is happening, maybe spikes to 60-65 when web browsing. Wattage doesn't seem particularly high when drawing these temperatures, worst I've seen is 125, but it gets in the 70s C when it's barely 80W, and 105W spikes it over 80C

>>109827940AMD's thermals are kinda just dog shit across the board. They use cheap IHSs and it completely nukes the thermal performance. Your only real solution is to either delid it, or accept that the thermals are bad-but-not-overheating. They run fine, it's not going to thermal throttle unless you use a tiny cooler, but the number is just higher than it really should be for what they are.

>>109827938>It's not foam though, it's very solid.Yeah, because most case makers (Fractal, Cooler Master) use the cheapest possible panels that don't actually dampen any sound. Be Quiet has the Silent Base series which has actual thick dampeners and a custom side panel that curves on the top panel which also helps blocking noise.>>109827945Mass loaded vinyl is the outer most layer you put on soundproofed walls, on top of layers of fiberglass or foam or wool that actually absorb most sound. It's the same concept as snow creating dead quiet in the winter: all the small empty pockets in a semirandom structure will dampen the amount of movement the air can do, hence silence.

And the Tctl/Tdie was always around five or up to ten C hotter than the cores.>>109828001>or accept that the thermals are bad-but-not-overheatingI'll see how it goes in actual use before trying to repaste it a third time, having made a bit of a mess with it (the pictures on the Arctic website showed a lot more than is needed). I was a bit spoiled by how little fan noise the 3900X needed (it would have been even less on a 3700X), so getting used to a hot CPU will be a new experience for me (apart from back in the day when I knew nothing about computers and the noise they made brought a positive Pavlovian response). Tuning the fans will be a hassle, I might set it to a continuous moderate speed instead of spiking when the CPU is going crazy.I did notice HWinfo never said it was thermal throttling, though with how PBO works it probably does self-limit in the 80s. Its clock speeds go all over the place compared to the 3900X where it spun up and then stayed relatively steady according to the demands of the game.I don't think there's any stuttering within games, it was only starving the web browser that annoyed me. The brief period of running games for fifteen minutes at a time seemed to suggest the performance was where it should be - space marine 2 was night and day, no stuttering/framedrops.I'd be curious to hear from anyone who went from a 5800X3D to a 9800X3D if they've ironed all this out.

just came to get some advice on how to fix a problem.so i bought a USB DAC amp for my IEMs and they worked well on my phone.so i tried using it on my PC and i hear this popping/distorted noise when i play games or click through a video on youtube.i tried all the bullshit solutions I've seen and went as far as reinstalling windows to see if that did anything and it did nothing.did anyone else have this problem?and if you did do you have a solution.just so you can understand i'll just give a scenario:I played Euro Truck and turned the radio on to listen to music, while i'm driving i hear random pops in the audio that happens for like 0.5 seconds then audio goes back to normal. and it happens a few more times while driving and even if i parked the truck.
>>109828097but i have a nas also nases need IO for many hdds how can it be perfect for one? usb?!?
>>109828681What does this mean, how would I check for it, and what should I do about it? The CPU is stock, the RAM is 3600mhz on XMP.What I mean by crackling is that if I have a youtube video in the browser, and then something else pushes CPU usage to a high usage, the video just shits the bed and stutters. This seems reproducible, eg: running a youtube video and then starting the HWinfo cpu stress test, though I also noticed it when loading up EU5. It stops as soon as I stop the CPU-stressing programme. It doesn't seem to produce a WHEA error in HWinfo or event viewer.

I want to pirate games. I don't exactly 100% trust the Denuvo hypervisor crack so I was thinking about building a dedicated, offline, PC just to play games. But computer parts are so expensive right now. While I do have the money and I can spend $3k-4k CAD on a new PC I wanted to ask this first. Is playing modern games on a SATA SSD really bad? The PS4 uses SATA SSD and I actually didn't mind the speed. If possible I'd also like to put the OS on the SSD so I don't have to buy an NVMe just for the OS and a SATA SSD for my games.
>>109833257>Is playing modern games on a SATA SSD really bad? It's fine for most games. A handful of new titles leverage NVMe SSD's faster loading, but NVMe storage aren't a strict requirement for these games. But I'd expect GTA6 to run much better on an NVMe drive.

On edge, it will treat all the color spaces the same and max out the gamut. On Firefox, it will adjust srgb tagged content to be less colorful than true high gamut content. This is with HDR mode OFF.https://www.wide-gamut.com/testIf I turn on HDR mode, edge behaves similarly to firefox. But then firefox looks more desaturated (the colors are completely different than edge now, the hdr content is not correct either). But I probably have a weird setting I enabled and forgot about in firefox, and I didn't restart my PC. You should just test it yourself and compare.
