Two week old Chu 2s are wanting to
>Go Green
but its only a tiny bit so I guess a 3-4 week cycle of maintenance should be good enough.

My previous iems were dogshit plastic tangzu waner v1s of which their shells were cracked after like a year; even though I take care of my peripherals like a baby. They still work but they sound totally soulless now.
Ones before that were TinHifi T2s which I used for 6 years 8+ hours daily until the MMCX' connector's center piece broke away.
I hope this one will be the same hence why I'm back to metal and not plastic trash.

Chu2 sounds great by the way I'm quite happy with it.
>>
>>109869932
Counterpoint: even if after EQing two different IEM's to the same target, you get the exact same frequency response on a test bench, the FR will be "different at the ear drum" because of psychoacoustics that are the goddamn Kryptonite of every online audiophile community that spends thousands in audio gear, suffers from buyer's remorse and can't accept they've wasted money on something that only sounds different because they subconsciously gaslight themselves into believing that that's the case due to the differing price tags.

And no I haven't read what you were discussing in the last thread, fuck you.
>>109870636
In my case I wasn't too happy due to them being metal and constantly slipping out of my earholes. Got EPZ Q1 Pro's instead, cannibalized the Chu 2's for the cable, got some Spring Tips and now I'm *very* happy with it.
>>
>>109870856
>the FR will be "different at the ear drum" because of psychoacoustics
The FR will be different because of geometry nigga. And acoustic impedance.
>>
>>109870856
>Counterpoint
I'd say it's less of a counterpoint and more of an irrelevant point to the discussion
we can't even start taking psychoacoustics into consideration because FR differences are not neutralized.
At this stage it doesn't matter why FR is different at the eardrum, what matters is that it's not some ambiguous technical performance

Leave the audiofool his remaining fortnight, would you. He asks no more than leave to enjoy those delusions which circumstance has not yet seen fit to strip from him. For the truth of equalization and frequency response advances upon us, and when at last it acquires sufficient purchase, this whole enterprise will deflate of its own accord.
Nor suppose we are ignorant of the facts. In our private councils we have long understood that HEX confers no advantage unavailable to a ten-dollar bauble lately arrived out of Shenzhen, provided it be subjected to the proper equalization. Listener has told us so. Various young men of the imageboard have told us so. The matter is known.
What remains is not persuasion but accommodation. We have spent considerable sums, and ask only to be left undisturbed through these final days in which we may still conduct ourselves as though those sums had purchased us something. The reckoning is near enough.. Two more weeks.

Can I please get some warm IEM recommendations? I had Final E4000 and for me they were very good, just a good all rounder without fatigue that wouldn't hurt my ears. I didn't know at the time how good they were. I could use them for music, movies, gaming, anything, that's what I'm looking for. I tried Aful Explorer and I like them for everything except gaming, they seem to put this layer of sub bass everywhere when gaming, constantly whhhrrrrr all over the place. Again for music they're really good though. My favourite genre is EDM especially dnb but I like rock and metal, too. Like I said, I need an all rounder.

I would get Final E4000s again but they broke three times. Every time the same thing happened: one earphone's audio got low one day. I bought two pairs in total, both pairs initially lost one earphone, then I used the working earphone of the old pair with the working earphone of the new pair, and again one stopped working so I'm done with that shit.

Thanks hope u can help.

I tried first level of The Ancient Gods DLC with the Aful Explorer and damn the sub bass was everywhere.

Thanks again dude!

Reminder that two different IEMs with absolutely identical FR, including at the eardrum, can have drastically different technical abilities (microdetails, imaging, layering, note weight etc.) if one of them is cheap 1DD and the other is a hybrid with beryllium-plated DD dedicated for the bass and Knowles/Sonion BAs for the rest. The latter is just built different and will deliver incomparably better techs. EQ won't help, can't get around material physics and kinetics.

>>109874259

>>
>>109874259
Even two completely identical IEMs can sound completely different, if you can't see them. Must be the homeopathic difference in the materials during manufacturing.
>>
>>109874259
>The latter is just built different and will deliver incomparably better techs.
what's the actual difference? and how does it result in better techs?
what are techs btw? in a practical sense. where are they in soundwaves
>>
>>109874295
>what's the actual difference? and how does it result in better techs?
Better speed. Much less decay after the driver stops, and in case of BAs - no decay. Less intermodulation distortion. Better channel matching due to using high-quality components that are in-specs.
>what are techs btw? in a practical sense. where are they in soundwaves
The closer the sound you hear is to the data you have on your music player, the better techs. Simple as that. If a driver needs time to stop vibrating after the signal stops, or if two sines of different frequencies result in additional sine higher up the audible band, which is a result of a low quality driver wobbling due to not being rigid enough - that's bad techs. Which is even more important in actual music, because it's literally made of fuckton of sines.
>>
>>109874259
Reminder that if the audio isn't sufficiently mixed with these imaging and spatial cues baked in already, no set of transducers can produce the cues accurately on their own.
>>109874295
>in a practical sense. where are they in soundwaves
psychoacoustics+audio mixing comes into play. it's not some anomaly
>>
>>109874329
>The closer the sound you hear is to the data you have on your music player, the better techs.
I will say, that even if one has a cheap set of headphones or IEMs, EQing them to neutral (the least amount of coloration of the audio's playback), gives you a shot at hearing a more 'accurate' playback of the mix choices, but that only gets you so far.
Better transducers, tuned and implemented right, gives you the best chance at audibly observing a more realistic playback of the audio.
>>
>>109874329
>Much less decay after the driver stops, and in case of BAs - no decay
Decay is entirely determined by the magnitude response.
>Less intermodulation distortion
Not in BAs.
>Better channel matching due to using high-quality components that are in-specs.
QC issue, not materials issue.
>>
>>109873875
Same. I own 4 pairs of budget pos and they don't really hold up.
>>
>>109874329
>Better speed
what does it mean?
also how do you know it's better? how was it measured? How do you know it's better speed that results in better techs?
>and in case of BAs - no decay
have you seen decay comparisons?
>Less intermodulation distortion
measurements?
>Better channel matching due to using high-quality components that are in-specs
how was it proven that channel matching results in better techs?

>If a driver needs time to stop vibrating after the signal stops
nice theory but what about reality?
do you simply ASSUME difference is audible without any evidence whatsoever?
>>
>>109874350
>Better transducers, tuned and implemented right, gives you the best chance at audibly observing a more realistic playback of the audio.

>>
>>109874350

>>
>>109872003
I'm not sure if warm and gaming (imaging) go together, unless you mean like immersive gaming where spatial cues aren't important
>>
>>109874373
>they don't really hold up
You could probably try EQing them as dead neutral as possible and test against each other different bits of audio..see where that gets you.
But naturally, better sets, even with their own coloration to FR, reach closer to playing back spatial cues better because they're simply better on their own.
The cheaper shit tends to squash mixes. Narrow imaging, mushed transients, inability to resolve dense and busy audio, and this is after trying to EQ to neutral. It only gets you so far if the gear is shit.
>>
>>109874390

Only the measured output matters. The question whether they're equivalent or not doesn't matter. But don't get any silly ideas. Mathematically they're completely equivalent. You can build EQ out of springs and dampers, out of capacitors and inductors, out of digital IIR filters and the result will be identical. Watch F1 videos where they corrected the impulse of suspension like that before it was banned.

Total fanfiction. Why wouldn't I use a rig I own lol. Are you dyslexic for real? "Rig doesn't matter" doesn't mean "you don't need a rig". It means other rig models will have the same result. They only differ in the magnitude response.

so my qrd thoughts after 30+ minutes:
-tonality is solved issue already with cheap pos, you are paying extra for "techs"
-first 3 tracks qith fresh ears were like "it's okay" but then shit started to get into me - that extra psychoacoustics details that were new to me - more depth, sounds perceived below jaw and so on. basically more 3D perception of sounds compared to my other pos
-very occasionally there is hint of sharpness in jpop/jrock female vocals but it's negligible
-when running comparisons Cantor and Noah they sound less complete, flatter, less detailed (it's up to individual if that difference is 'worth the price increase' but there is a noticable difference when comparing directly)
Overall very competent and enjoyable pos. I don't regret blind buying.

nta but techs are interactions between IEM and your anatomy resulting in a specific FR at your eardrum parts of which your brain interprets as "soundstage", "separation", "dynamics" or whatever dumb terms you want to use

Actually techs are not just about FR. Too much or too little isolation can influence how you hear and how your brain interprets things. Acoustic impedance influences techs too. In general lower acoustic impedance is associated with better techs but it is not necessary always the case

My roommate had his high refresh rate gaming monitor for counter strike, it was time where 120hz TN panels were super expensive, totl stuff for real games, everything else was 60hz. And when we gained access to high refresh panels in phones ( i think it was just 90hz panel) we noticed that his TN panels feels super slow in comparision.

>bass
Beryllium-plated DD capable of pistonic motion at extreme speeds without deformations due to its light weight and high rigidity, basically a holy grail among DDs. Thunderous subbass and warm-ish midbass that gives impact and note weight without muddying the mids.
>mids
Knowles ED balanced armature, used as a full-range driver in hearing aids and expensive IEMs. Here it's dedicated to mids, leaving the rest to other drivers. It's natural and detailed.
>treble
Knowles RAD - a legend of its own. Crisp, detailed, yet airy treble with all the microdetails you might want.
>shells
Made of aluminum-magnesium alloy, a material that's often used to make good quality drivers (yes, drivers!), but since it has drivers that are even better, you can enjoy a luxurious, extra-rigid, very lightweight build. There are no filters in the nozzles, so there's no moisture condensation in this all-metal IEM. Furthermore, acoustic design, including S.TURBO for deep, snappy bass and acoustic chambers specifically designed for wide soundstage, you can enjoy extreme imaging of the top quality drivers to the fullest.
>tuning
It's tasteful, mature, kilobuck-derived W-shape tuning with lots of energy in the bass and the treble, but balanced out with mids in a way that treble is not harsh. Seems V-shape and kinda neutral at the same time. Definitely well done.

Yeah, I should have been more clear. I want something for casual gaming, like just chilling and playing Doom with music playing in the background like I do here: >>>/wsg/6208921

That's how I like to game. I have a more accurate IEM for when I want to play competitive stuff like CS. I've realised that I only really listen to music with IEMs while I'm gaming at the same time, so I need something that works for both. Like I said, Aful Explorer for my music taste alone is fantastic but it doesn't work with games like Doom Eternal. Like in that webm I posted there, for me there's constant WHRRRRR sub-bass all over the freaking place while using the Explorer. I just need something that's similar but takes that crazy WHRRRRR away (I think it means it has 'slow decay' or something? I'm not an audiophile guy). Good bass is essential for me and a warm sound signature in general that doesn't hurt my ears like the Tea Pro does. I swear that shit makes my ears ring even with treble reducing tips like Kiwi Ears Flex. I can't stand the Tea pros, I don't know how people listen to it. Sure like I said I'm not an audiophile guy but I was using generic earphones/headphones my whole life and nothing has ever bothered me like Tea Pros do. Maybe audiophile guys are all somewhat deaf from this hobby so the high treble given by Tea Pros lets them hear shit they haven't heard in years? I kid.

The part where Oratory talks about musicians and latency... it's a solution to a issue that doesn't really need to be solved IMO. All musicians learn very early to play with "latency", e.g. hitting guitar strings in anticipation of the rhythm, leading it, instead of following it. He admits good drummers adjust for that, but even random garage bands adjust for that.

That is literally the exact opposite of how that works. We normally stuff dense dampers into receiver exit bores to control peaking behavior. Resonant properties are strong, deliberately so.
BAs are also highly nonlinear relative to moving coils, but probably not relevant to perception.
