How do I handle being part of moving to the department by myself. There's a lot of things I want to change about my current workflow and I think keeping quiet here is what really fucked me. I'm debating whether to start mapping and plotting shit that I want to achieve or run through with my new boss or keep quiet and play it by ear. What would you do? Asking for a friend - any of you working at a place where the use of AI is limited as a means of policy, regulation, or law? I'm thinking of a scenario where the smallest error could cause deaths, say pacemaker firmware, autopilots in aircraft, weapons systems. I'm not necessarily talking about you can't use AI at all, just something like you can use AI to write code, just not to test it (including unit/integration tests and manual testing), or you can use AI for research, but not for coding etc.

I figure the correctness risks AI introduces (it's nondeterministic in that the same prompt won't give the same output twice unless temperature is set to 0, it sometimes makes assumptions without checking things, and a number of other specific but distinct risks of AI)... I'm too high to write a sensible thought but basically I'm just trying to find out if these types of spaces do now or will at some point exist in the future, where as a matter of regulation basically people won't be able to turn the codebase/infrastructure/working environment into a polluted slopscape... sounds like it could be a nice place to work once everything else has truly and fully gone to shit, but idk if those regulations/policies will actually come to fruition (or already exist)

Downtown core is very dangerous and when I worked around adelaide street, there were constant homeless shooting up in the morning and threatening to kill me on the only path toward work, and frequent knifings at the corner of the street I have to pass minutes after I leave work. There are also constant crazies screaming and flailing at people. Go in any public transport (including plane and train terminals) past 10pm and you will see literal waves of zombies and cops just pairing up and pointing + laughing at them as they do their thing. Again you'll be treated to live drug shoots if you're ever curious.
You have to be over 1h away from anywhere near downtown to find somewhere safe, but then you have to be careful not to go too far or you're in little (very big) mumbai or terrorist central (like north of little greece, you won't see a single person not wearing a full-blown burka or manrobes).
Maybe if you were white you'd feel a bit more threatened because they wouldn't give you a pass for your skin color, shitskin.
