not "limited", but oled is highly susceptible and has degradation built in.

>you made this up
nope, look up any channel about TV repairs. quantum dots wear out just like oled does.

>IPS will glow you up even more than VA miniled
sure, but it will work the same for a decade. I personally had IPS monitors as daily drivers for a decade. show me an oled after a decade, it'll have a tenth of the brightness due to burn-in up the wazoo.
>>
>>109913680
arent quantum dots dying even faster as their base color is blue, the light source that dies the quickest?
>>
>>109913680
Quite frankly, I only had one monitor die on me. I tend to replace them as higher pixel densities become cheaper. 5k sure is taking its sweet time to reach 300EUR, tho. And OLED is for blind people who don't notice the fringing, the grainy text, the flickering, and who only play videogames in darkness, and who cry whenever they see their reflection on the dim glossy panel.
>>
So I should have bought this. It was in my cart.

good practice is limit the game fps at its average fps and make sure that average fps is at least 50-60% of your monitor refresh rate, you wont fix the dips and they will be more noticeable when your usual frametime is 4ms than when its 16ms
kinda annoying this stuff is not auto set by game and you have to find it by yourself on internets on game by game basis

Either the monitor's defective or his VRR isn't set up properly (monitor running at 60Hz & game capped @ 60 FPS).
You don't want the game FPS to exactly match the monitor's refresh rate.
His monitor's switching between V-Sync & VRR, because no display can perfectly present 60Hz.

rgb has color crosstalk/color bleeding, even slower panels, less dimming zones

if you are sensitive to flicker you will vomit, get headaches, be drugged after prolonged use of it
if you gonna try the 60fps flicker meme you gonna see insane flickering at 60fps
still an IPS and 1440 max

overpriced

it's lcd strobing

strobing disengages with fps flacuations

it gets updates through firmware so they can improve it atleast

seems unsuable for esports, its not esport tech, its clarity tech

>>109914077
I saw the flickering, the fringing, but lcd might be even worse
idk what's better
you can get stripe subpixels but now you get jailbairs uniformity and a carpet texture and green tint instead (woled fiesta)
>>
>>109914458
it is good practice for all monitors in terms of minimizing the effect of frametime changes not just oled

>>109914499
it is long known you are supposed to limit fps 3-5 fps under monitor max refresh so you never go into vsync
>>
>>109914569
>3-5 fps
it's percentage based now due to the frametimes shit?
like how nvidia autocaps 240hz to 225fps
that is not 5 fps

>disable any automatic OEM software installers (only relevant for windows)
>disable fast boot
>enable expo or xmp
>disable RGB lighting in S4 & S5 if you have any
Optional would be things like disable unused devices e.g. realtek onboard sound if you use a soundcard or external USB DAC or enable hardware virtualization for VMs. Motherboard and setup dependant but some lane configuration you may need to switch around disabling USB4 if not needed for faster secondary m2. Sometimes you need to set the GPU as primary so the iGPU of the processor isnt used. Turn off or enable rebar if you want.
>>
>>109914617
I guess, when it became rule there were no 500hz monitors so it makes sense
>>
>>109914617
I believe the FPS cap formula for Reflex is:
>Refresh Rate - (Refresh Rate x Refresh Rate / 4096) = FPS Cap
4096 is set to give about 0.25 ms frame time buffer to avoid triggering V-Sync, it fluctuates between 0.25 ~ 0.3 ms in practice.
The minus 2 or 3 FPS is for 60 Hz refresh rate.
>>
>>109914529
Familiarize yourself with a variety stress tests if you're trying to overclock stuff.
>Should I just stick to the presets
I wouldn't use the board vendor's OC presets in their BIOS, they're so power inefficient.

would a 9070 GRE be an okay improvement over a 6700 XT for 1440p gayman
I know it's basically a castrated 9070 which itself is still worse than a 5070 since AMD can't into raytracing and upscaling, but graphics card prices are mental and the GRE seems somewhat reasonable

I've always heard that two sticks is better than four, though don't ask me why
>>

>>
>>109916737
consumer cpus are dual channel ram only so 2x and 4x will provide the same bandwidth benefits but 4x will be harder to run at oc speeds than 2x as the cpu memory controller has to work harder to keep double the memory banks active.
>>
>>109916737
>>109916744
For a given capacity two sticks are better than four because - in absolute simplest terms - it is easier for the memory controller to handle.

This is why if you look at your motherboard's qualified vendor list for memory the speed they validate four sticks run at is slower than two sticks.

what you said just means CPU may still come out this year (requires less software stack, easier to manufacture), but GPU not until 2028 (large chip, harder to manufacture, no GDDR7 stock, drivers much harder to do) unless you mean a paper launch. Nvidia isn't planning on new GPUs until 2028 either.

won't happen, even if entry model geforce cards cost $1600.
either it will cost $1600because 3/4ths of that is RAM cost, or it will cost $1600 and so will the entry level Radeons because why sell them at a lower price if the costumers will buy them anyway?
>>
amd doesn't really put that much effort in radeon because they dominate the cpu market anyways, right?
besides, it's hard to actually want to try to help the consumer, let's say they release some super good GPUs that outperform the nvidia equivalent in power, functionalities, power consumption and a cheaper price, the scalpers are gonna ruin all of this effort anyways
and also let's not forget the fact that the nvidia CEO and amd CEO are cousins so maybe there's something going on there when it comes to not wanting to ruin each other's businesses by being too competitive
>>
Hardware wise AMD could easily compete with Nvidia, it's software where they're still years behind

To AMD, Radeon exists to make chips for consoles. That is their #1 job. They get most of their mandates from their biggest customer - Sony. They only started paying attention to RT because Sony was asking why they don't have RT.

Software is good enough. The whole point behind LTSC releases is so the software is good enough you don't have to update for 10 years.
>>
>>109917048
nvidia cannot do vsr with mpos off. its a hardware limitation with their display engine. amd can do it on 7000 and up.
>>
>>109916980
They don't put any effort into GPUs because R&D is a gigantic money sink, plus they were never able to fab large chips. Nvidia is better at both. Even for CPUs they only got better because they could split the I/O and compute to separate chiplets, both which are very easy to make so they can use cutting edge fabbing processes and still get decent yields. GPU requires both cutting edge process AND high yields (Nvidia doesn't get good yields either, but they sell chips at 10x markup for datacenters and cars).

AMD attempted chiplets on gpus with RDNA3, but it did not scale at all with RDNA4, so they only released midrange cards with no flagship. Until they can do chiplets for GPU cores, AMD won't have a high end Radeons.

What they are doing instead is making big APUs like Strix Halo, and repurposing the GPU tile/chiplet as a discrete GPU. From what I recall:
AT4: 20-24CU with LPDDR5X/6, Medusa Halo and low end discrete GPUs
AT3: 40-48CU with LPDDR5X/6, Medusa Halo and mid range discrete GPUs
AT2: 60-72CU, xbox/ps6, I forgot which memory, may or may not be used for discrete GPUs
AT0: 80-96CU with GDDR7, flagship discrete GPUs

The hot set is stable between φ-scale boundaries (no page thrashing), the page traffic is 30× below memory bandwidth, and the STDP updates are local to the paged-in data. Something like this for a experiment to see if I can make an autonomous pc agent.

>>109918668
I've been thinking about the tv box piece of hardware a lot lately, it's the most neglected part of the house hardware for everyone
it can't run linux because HDR is bad, it can't run windows because windows is bad, it has to run android, but it has to have widevine L1 hardware enablement, which means you can't actually build a diy tv box that works, you have to buy one that is good and has widevine l1, dolby atmos, dolby whatever else
the only mod we can do to those devices is actually building a custom android image with the help of claude and extract the widevine and all the other shit lines of code from the stock image and then we get a better tv box, sadly that's all we can do today until linux HDR is fixed and then we give up on widevine and just use jellyfin
>>
>>109918612
>actual ram for gayming?
anything that's rated for 6000mhz cl30 to cl26
that teamgroup cl34 kit is fine too since it should be using the same hynix a-die ram as the aforementioned gayming kits

3070 isnt good since 8gb vram, its going to run into problems
but since all prices are fucked now idk.
maybe try to look at used 10-12gb 30xx, 40xx gpus just for the longevity it gives and ability to use vram using features like rt or frame gen without game crashing to 10 fps randomly
>>
>>109919281
I can get an 11GB RTX 2080Ti for the same price as the 3060Ti, or for $370 I can get an RTX 3080 10GB. Anything past that starts getting into the $500+ territory and at that point, I might as well just buy a new 8GB RTX 5060. For reference I'm on a 6GB GTX 980Ti as is so really anything would be an upgrade at this point.
>>
>>109919281
actually now that I'm looking, It appears the 3060 Ti and even the RTX 5050 are similar performance at 1440p whilst the 5050 has newer instruction sets. I can also find a brand new RTX 5050 for $310. I might just do that.
>>
>>109919292
3080 wouldnt be terrible in that scenario, I can play games okay on mine but vram is occasional issue at 10gb, but I bought that 5y ago.
ampere has poor frame per watt performance vs 40xx and 50xx and they're so old so youd need to open em up and change thermal pads

5050 is like bare minimum for esport titles.

if a brand new PC or even something remotely new maybe. I have a 6th gen i7 lol. I'm just trying to get >70fps in modern titles at respectable graphics settings. Given my choice(s) are a used RTX 3080 that I pray hasn't been used for mining or severe abuse or a mediocre 3060 Ti, or a brand new 5050 with newer tech and a warranty, I think I might go for the last one. >>
>>109921475
Your Jacuzzi cost more power than RTX pro 6000
>>
>>109921493
It's not the cost of the power it's the fact that the heat cool cycles are just ultimately a shit enviroment and the stress over the 5080 having melty cables while I was asleep, the i5-14400 and 3060 12GB are on a 500 watt psu and barely break 60 degrees with load. The enbtire system minus the 36060 12GB peaks out at 180 watts. The utility i7-4970s 32GB with 1030 2GB ddr5 machines barely reach 200 watts. Suprisingly the 1080ti and i7-4970 also run very cool (the Gods of thermal repasting smiling on me). If I wanted to spend 20 grand I could but it would be on parts for server blade setup and fibre san. Plus my entire home has hydro, wind and solar that runs all the water and heating pumps, lighting and low wattage stuff with the NASs on UPS and I don;t need or want a 1000+ watt PC that is a fire risk thanks to nvidia in my home. I fuck around with LLMs and there is fuck all difference in load and t/s between 5060ti 16GB and a 3060 12GB with rebar on pci 4 and DDR5. Equally any gaymes I care about are fine on it for me even the modern ones(most of thje ones I actually play are retro). Each to their own.

LCD has been terrible tech for couple decades now.
Theres been incremental improvements to cope with how terrible the tech is but nothing changes that its fundamentally backlit, which is bad, it uses slow liquid crystals, which is bad, and its sample and hold, which is bad.

OLED fixes the image quality at the expense of burn in risk, you still need to cope with stuff like having rly high hz monitor with nvidia frame gen to deal with some of the sample and hold awfulness.
>>
>>109923392
will i reduce risk for burn in if i use lower brightness?
>>
>>109923405
you reduce it by having a 2nd lcd monitor that you can keep static stuff like taskbar up on
Then you use oled with black desktop background, dark mode chrome browsing and set the monitor to go to to sleep after 15 mins of non use.

If you want to have a monitor for productivity where you have same stuff up on screen 10h a day you dont want oled, but its fine for gaming and such.

I dont think they're releasing the rgb stripe monitors at 16:9 1440p format yet
its actually hard to rec 1440p monitors until those come out, also they'd be expensive

QD OLED is generally the best for having better uniformity, so either wait for rgb strip or go for some >360hz current gen qd oled

typically the samsung/lg up the hz incrementally year over year
oled pixels shift fast enough for 1000hz+ monitors so its simply about the underlying electronics being fast enough, power delivery to each pixel and such
if you see current gen oled with suspiciously low hz its been arbitrarily segmented into lower price tier which makes little sense to buy

nvidia 50xx has 6x frame gen and it adds motion clarity to games, if you get 100 fps in a game you can saturate a high hz monitor with frame gen

rate my "budget" build. Things with manually adjusted prices are purchased already from eBay. It appears I've become a walking corporate sponsor for ASrock just due to current pricing.

Why do you need 3 144hz monitors

You can save a lot of money and use it towards getting a way better monitor and GPU

Because I'm on 1 monitor right now and want more as it's very limiting.
>You can save a lot of money and use it towards getting a way better monitor and GPU
There's no GPU worth getting for the money I'd save on monitors. I've looked. Prices are fucked. The B580 is literally the best GPU at sub $350.
>>

would you say it's worth the cost of getting 1440p over 1080p? There's ASrock 1440p 180HZ IPS panels for $150 each. I play everything from AAA single player games to World of Warcraft to Apex Legends.

yeah defo go for 1440p, games are too delailted nowadays so 1080p feels cluttered, like you can't really look at stuff that's far away in a detailed way
the thing here is that that gpu is the equivalent of a 3060 so you'll probably have to play on medium/high if you want to run games at 1440 60fps minimum
>>
>>109926091
all gpus seem they're at least 25% more expensive now vs pre-memory crisis

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/yyxM4g

the only card I can find in relative range of what I selected was the 9070GRE for $550 which is still $220 more than the B580. Is it worth it? I can only get 2 of the 1440p monitors to say within the same price as the 3 monitor I had selected before but whatever. GPUs are fucking wild atm. The only other option >10GB VRAM than the 9070 is the 16GB 9060XT for $500 but I feel like the extra RAM is wasted if the GPU itself is far weaker.
>>
>>109926139
HUB said it's about 40% more on average for nvidia over msrp and 25% more for AMD.

Not counting the 5090 of course.

> 9070GRE for $550 which is still $220 more than the B580. Is it worth it?
YES
And 2 1440p monitors will be better than 3 1080p monitors
>>
>>109926158
jfc a "mid range" PC used to be like $1000 including a monitor. Now it's almost double that using 4 generation old CPU and an older RAM standard used from eBay. All for the faggots in silicon Valley to be allowed to replace us all with shittily made LLM's and curry niggers
>>
>>109926145
yes unless you miraculously find a 5060 ti 16gb at around the same prices, but even then the 9070gre offers better raw performance
in an idea world you'd be getting a 5070 probably
I've never had an AMD card so I don't really know how bad or good the whole drivers shenanigans is
>>
>>109925872
lets see the non-gpu parts

>new ddr4 build
thats kinda bad, youd be better off going am5 with 7800x3d cpu. Itd have lasting value in future games, have zen 6 upgrade path later, x3d helps with cl36 ddr5 ram perf.

>microatx case
avoid those, go for normal atx, Mid-Tower

>1tb ssd, 750w psu
prob fine, you'd want a atx 3.1 psu for 50xx gpus

>monitors
Id get a modern fast pixel changing VA for better contrast, miniled VA. Easier to enjoy media.

>keyboard
I always get tkl so the numpad doesnt take space I prefer to use for mouse area.
>>
>>109926189
16GB 5060Ti's are like $780 and 5070 12GB's start at $840
>>109926203
>thats kinda bad, youd be better off going am5 with 7800x3d cpu. Itd have lasting value in future games, have zen 6 upgrade path later, x3d helps with cl36 ddr5 ram perf.
It's price. 32GB DDR5 kits start at $350. I'd be spending $850+ for anything on DDR5 for CPU/motherboard/RAM vs the $450 for my 12th gen intel and ebay parts
>avoid those, go for normal atx, Mid-Tower
why, I have an mATX board, 1 expansion card (GPU), and only 2 hard drives. Buying a bigger case for no reason
>Id get a modern fast pixel changing VA for better contrast, miniled VA. Easier to enjoy media.
Subjective. I prefer IPS
>I always get tkl so the numpad doesnt take space I prefer to use for mouse area.
Subjective. I have a large mouse mat with plenty of mouse space. I also used the various extra buttons on a full num pad having keyboard quite often. Not to mention I spent $7 on it lol.

Thanks for the input. For reference I'm on an old prebuilt dell 8th gen intel with GTX 1050Ti I threw in it. This will be a large jump forward for me regardless.

you do realise the 5060ti has 16gb? It's meh but at least it's not stupid wattage meh
>>
>>109926238
I think it's more about price from that anon. Why make an 8GB and a 16GB 5060 card that supposed to be mid range when a 12GB 5060 would have been a perfect down the middle solution. Shit, a 10GB 5060 would have been better for pricing. Would have fit into their line up nicely too. 10GB 5060, 12GB 5070, 16GB 5080 (ignore the bastard 5070 Ti)
