You can't upgrade to the next generation of RAM or the next generation of PCIe connection to your nvme stick(s). so it doesn't really matter. what matters is
1. does your laptop have good specs
2. is it built like a tank rather than like a flimsy brittle piece of shit
>>
>>109932969
Also, soldered memory isn't that bad compared to some of the other bullshit you might see. I've seen a laptop with an NVMe stick with a PCIe to SATA adapter. who the fuck does that? you lose all the benefits of PCIe

I'm using my macbook air m1 16/512 daily for programming. It runs our whole stack locally, two browsers + headless browsers for testing, vscode with a shitload of extensions, my clanker sessions, all smooth. It's a 6 years old laptop, the battery still mogs every other laptop, the screen and the speakers still mog your chinktop. No other brand offers this level of quality. I received my new MacBook pro m5 (pro) for work and haven't switched yet, it's not like I'm in a hurry.

>>

>Everything is these days but even before the ram price hikes not really.
Which is why I make these statemements relatively. It is 3x the price of the same laptop with the same specs elsewhere. It is about the same price as a somewhat equivalent or slightly worse macbook.
>what do you mean.
Suppose your mobo break, you can get a new one that's exactly the same. That's about it. No sidegrades.
It's more blatant with the backslot that can be upgraded with a single gpu but only on the biggest model.
There is virtually 0 3rd party parts market and no real used parts market either, so you pay full price at max premium for anything.
>if you want a worse trackpad make one.
It has the worst trackpad of any laptop ever made, period. And unless your technical prowess are limited to facebook posting, there isn't a single touchpad without physical buttons that is even remotely usable anyway.

CPU is not what makes a laptop expensive. its mostly the peripherals.
You can have a nice GPU and surround it with some piece of shit display and plastic. Framework does not do that.
>Suppose your mobo break, you can get a new one that's exactly the same. That's about it. No sidegrades.
It's a motherboard with a CPU on it. It doesn't come with storage, or ram or even a wifi chip.
What features exactly do you want? Intel and AMD keep the features the same on each generation of hardware.
You will most likely just get an upgrade that does things like run better like with the new raptor lake chips.
>It has the worst trackpad of any laptop ever made, period. And unless your technical prowess are limited to facebook posting, there isn't a single touchpad without physical buttons that is even remotely usable anyway.

>>

>What features exactly do you want?
Obviously, a wide range of mobos. What if I want to buy a mobo with soldered ram or one without soldered ram or one with a better cooling-optimized design or a smaller one because it's compatible with an oversized module or a larger one because it's needed for a card I want to slot in.
Similar for all the components. There are no options and no market. It's all a meme.

Does anyone here have a framework? Why’d you get it? I don’t really understand what the use case is for it. The main selling point I’ve seen is the eGPU connection. That seems so weird though. To me it’s like buying a Toyota Corolla so you can hitch a Uhaul to it. Actually, it’s probably more like a Yugo in car terms since you have the option to buy the Framework multiple times in the form of new parts. I don’t get anything about the Framework, really.
