Tired of the hivemind? Here’s your prescribed sanity dose:

>Crinacle is not your priest.
Rankings are a guide, not divine scripture. Your ears > his spreadsheet.

>Harman and JM-1 ≠ perfect.
It’s a preference curve, not a law of physics. Some genres need deviation.

>Chi-Fi isn’t magic.
Great value, yes. Immune to QC issues and hype cycles? Nope.

>Graphs are not sound.
They don’t show staging, dynamics, or fit. Use your ears, not just squigs.

>BA ≠ metallic, DD ≠ perfect.
Implementation matters more than driver type. Always has.

>Meme sets aren’t the whole hobby.
If it’s not shilled 24/7, it might still be good. It's highly encouraged to form an original opinion.

>Disagreeing ≠ cope or deaf.
Let people like what they like without foaming at the mouth.

>Loud posts =/= smart takes.
Confidence without experience is just noise. Show graphs, impressions, or both.

>Cognitive dissonance.
When you're presented with a truth that threatens your entire perception of the world around you, your brain will simply refuse to process it.

This has been your scheduled break from pos groupthink.

New updates to Echo Mini custom firmware(not by me):
https://recho.atzkey.workers.dev/

0.9.1
Tags wherever the file keeps them. Besides the tags at the start of a file, 0.9.1 also reads the ones at the end: APEv2, an appended ID3v2, ID3v1, and WAV tags after the audio. When a file has more than one tag, the first one found wins, field by field.
Tags are read apart from playback, asynchronously on the system core.
New setting: Show tags. It’s on by default. Turn it off and the player reads no tags at all: the play screen shows the file name and folder, as before 0.9.0.
0.9.0
Tags: title, artist, album and track number. Read from ID3v2.2–2.4 (MP3, and WAV’s id3 chunk), FLAC’s Vorbis comments and WAV’s RIFF INFO. Covers, lyrics and padding are skipped, never loaded. A file without a title tag shows its name and path.
0.8.1
MP3. CBR, VBR and ABR; MPEG-1, 2 and 2.5, 8 to 48 kHz, every stereo mode. Gapless too, when the encoder left a LAME header (LAME does), the same way mpg123 or foobar2000 do it.
Enabled the microSD card. Browse and play straight from the card, FAT32 or exFAT. The card is mounted read-only. The second USB LUN is intentionally not implemented, so you can’t use the player as a card reader, and there are no plans to add it. Use a dedicated card reader to manage the library.
Big cover art doesn’t break playback anymore. In 0.7.0 a FLAC with a 531 KB cover never started (thanks to the redditor who sent theirs). Now files stuffed with megabytes of covers, lyrics and tags play, and stay gapless across them; the gapless test set has a stuffed set to prove it.

My AI agents are figuring out techs; I'll post the paper once they are done. Navier–Stokes was just the beginning.
>>
>>109990613
>>109990635
It's a well established fact if you see a difference you will hear a difference, even if there isn't actually any difference. That's the entire reason why blind tests were created. Only newfags don't know about this. Companies literally use different color schemes to create different "sound'.
>>109990665
Depends on your stage of development. For those who don't EQ external factors pretty much override objective sound quality. Those who fully mastered EQ don't even need a graph. Somewhere in between, when you've discovered how your preferences and how IEMs interact with your ear, you can make a judgement for yourself.
>>
>>109990719
>just rape your ears with deep insertion
nah
>>
>>109990749
You don't need to be a 'trained' listener to hear a difference in imaging between different sets.
You can have no experience with EQ and notice those things that are separate from tonality. This is the crux of most people's journey through IEMs until diminishing returns/unmet expectations/buyer's remorse hit. Then it becomes cope.
>>
>>109990807
>You don't need to be a 'trained' listener to hear a difference in imaging between different sets.
That's the entire point. Untrained listener will listen to the same IEM twice and hear two different things. Hearing differences in everything is the very beginning of the journey.
>>
>>109990635
>diminishing returns/unmet expectations/buyer's remorse
If you, dear anon, are affected by these things, it's better to recognize sooner than later how the resulting cope shapes and molds you before it ends up destroying you.
If I spent a few hundred dollars expecting a major upgrade and it never happened, I'd be an emotional wreck too.
Hell, I would call everyone that can notice differences deaf and dumb, if only to make myself feel better about my own mistakes. And I would call obvious things like imaging cues nonexistent because if I can't hear it, nobody can.

>listener will listen to the same IEM twice and hear two different things.

thing is, when your brain gets used to something it starts trying to point out the differences from the data that it already knows. so it kind of shapes your perception/hearing more and more into the optimal data until you cant track differences anymore. that's why short term blind listening tests are kinda flawed because the human brain hasnt absorbed enough information to be as objective and unbiased as perception allows. you're flooding it with information and "measuring" the immediate response to that instead of establishing a true baseline.
still funby seeing audiophiles and skeptics holding shitshows over it though.

Unsure if you care or will even see this but I thought I'd give you an update, my (presumably) filipino bro, I finally got my DT 770 Pro X - I'm no longer partially deaf!

Comfort wise they feel a bit nicer, cups are thicker and more comfortable. They're noticeably snugger (clamp force is like 2-3x time higher according to reviews) but the first impression isn't that it's uncomfortable but maybe after a few hours that'll change. The bigger cable isn't hitting my shoulder or being annoying, at least 2 people have complained about this, so that's not an issue.

When it comes to the sound they definitely sound different. There's some more bass in them compared to the old ones. Some songs sound slightly better but some songs sound worse. I'm guessing that I'm just so used to the old sound profile though, with enough time I'll probably get used to the new one.

Was the €45 worth it for the updated model? Probably not but I like the improved comfort so maybe.

Hello, i wanted to ask how would i go plugging my FiiO fh5s into my two retro rigs?
My first rig is a Pentium 3-S and has 2 sound cards, an AWE64 and a audigy 2ZS

how would one go connecting these, i'm not going to use them at the same time, is a passive audio switch enough?

Impossible. You can just mold the signature in a tws. In passive shit rawdogging it? Extremely hard.

Just take it out of one rig and plug it into other rig... You don't want to add anything between the sound card and a multidriver pos. The sound card is probably already bad enough as it is. The optimal solution would be a modern amp with two inputs connected to line outs of those rigs.

By Japanese music I'm assuming you mean blues and jazz like Casiopea and not weeb music given your other preferences. You want iems with smooth, warm, full sound in the mids, so avoid any V shaped ones with mid scoop.

I recommend the E500 unironically, but their build quality is very cheap. Or look into more neutral ones like Hexa, Pure, maybe Explorer.

NE4 changes how the BAs behave because the crossover is stored in the faceplate (literally techs/eq/dsp in the faceplate, blue plate kills the low end BA altogether for example) and it was released in 2021, so beat CVJ by at least 4 years.i mean altering resonance with faceplates like the lumira is kinda interesting too though, if it actually has noticeable differences.

I consooomed the truthear gates on the strength of /iemg/ hypeposting. breddy good! thanks lads.

I agree with other assessments; nice cable, ideal low-end, mids slightly unusual but inoffensive to my ear, highs are adequate while avoiding unpleasant, imaging is alright, there's not much in the way of soundstage but we knew that going in.

It's not that relevant because if IEM fits you well insertion depth doesn't change significantly enough to fuck up your EQ

I've recently been dipping back in to IEMs
I have truthear gates and moondrop arias and if you like the truthears I think you would probably enjoy arias as well. they aren't quite as warm/dark, not quite as on-target, but the arias offer more in the way of soundstage and texture as well as more of a premium presentation overall. they aren't necessarily "better" than the truthears in any sense but I do think they are complimentary.

Having a single target is retarded. Not even harman was that retarded. The problem with headphone show is that measurements are not enough to explain why you need multiple targets and you can't derive a target that you'll definitely like from measurements alone. But sharur is by far the most retarded of them all. It took him how many years to notice that different IEMs EQd to the same target sound different? Literally the most basic knowledge.
>>
>>110019471
>The problem with headphone show is that measurements are not enough to explain why you need multiple targets and you can't derive a target that you'll definitely like from measurements alone
how is this headphones show problem? they understand that perfectly well
>>
>>110019501
They don't. Most of the stuff that fits into "preference bounds" sounds like shit. Even if you measure your own DF HRTF. There's simply no way to turn that into a target you'll like without actually listening to it yourself.
>>
Fake ZMF Atrium from aliexpress, sound pretty good, easy to listen. Punchy bass but planar driver EQed to perfection offers pretty simillar punch and dynamics but with much more sub bass extension. Vocals are pretty comfy, close to me, female vocals sound bit like asmr vocies. There is enough details and treble but Moondrop planar i have is just much better without being too fatiguing. It’s a bit more relaxed here, yet I haven’t come across a track that sounded bad because of it, nor did anything stand out too harshly or reveal technical flaws in the mix.
Build quality have few problems but nothing that screwdriver and bit of lube couldn't fix. From what ive seen after quick teardown baffle and cups design is coppied very close to legit one. Seller said that it uses legit Atrium drivers from same source ZMF has them. Apart from that seller send me bright blue mesh instead of dark green but whatever, maybe will change that for something less flashy but for now im really happy.
I forgot how pleasing DDs can be.
>>
any good gaming/music iems? preferably anything under $150
>>
>>110019179
Headphones aren't supposed to be good in general. But there's stuff that's above average. This is above average in comfort. If you have big ears you'll need hifimans.
>>
>>110019735
sell me on iems then

what makes iems so much better and can they really be comfortable? I've never liked earbuds and I especially don't like the kind that use silicone or whatever to completely enclose your ear so you can't really hear your surroundings very well
>>
>>110019773
With anatomically shaped IEMs you have at least 3 points to distribute the pressure over instead of just the tip like in regular buds. The top of the ear with the cable, the bottom of the ear with the shell, the tip and sometimes a wing. That makes it less irritating to the ear canal. The downside is you have to find something that actually fits your anatomy. That will take several tries. But that will still be cheaper than with headphones.
>>
>>110019518
with their measured DF HRTF they use individual preference bounds made via listening
like wtf are you on about actually?
>>
>>110019941
Individual DF + individual preference bounds = shit. Only exactly 1 line inside those bounds will be good.

op here. quality on this one looks and feels fine, It has weird gaps where u can see metal spring but ive seen it on photos of real zmfs too. And I dont understand going with strap and normal paded headband. Straps like on chinkfiman or my Moondrop cosmo are much more comfortable, here it just rest on paded headband. I think its bit clampy on my head but maybe im spoiled by moondrop with close to 0 clamp force
I have knockoff audeze lcd headband laying somewhere so i can swap it. This one looks super crafty, handmade and artsy. I think it blends well with rest of the design on real zmfs but its bit clunky. Despite that it works on my head but as I said, other headbands are just better.

Here is baffle. Pad swap system is joke desu. Pain to get that shit back on and i think its not even as bad as other zmfs like Bokeh.
