>>
>>110030743
it makes sense
there will always be dies that cannot be good enough for 5090
the 5080 has a much bigger bin % and nvidia do not make an FE of the 5070TI
It's very easy for them to just kill the 5070TI and use the VRAM for that on the 24GB 5080 instead and sell the cards for way more

the 5090 was always gonna be kill as soon as they DOUBLED the price of the RTX PRO 6000 from $8000 to $16000 there was no way a $2000 MSRP 5090 using the same die as that card made any sense any more
>>
>>110030797
>there will always be dies that cannot be good enough for 5090
The 5080 doesnt use gb202, i dont see them offering more vram to consumers until rtx 6000. The 5080 will remain as is but I do see them killing the 70ti and 60ti 16gb as well.
>>
Does anyone have figures for power consumption when idling on a 60hz 1080p desktop for a 5050 or 3070 vs 3080? And also when streaming hevc through sunshine.

A used 3070 would be the cheapest, but for only $150 more I can get a 3080. The only issue is that my 3090 idles at 30w without a display, taking nearly 100w when streaming and the 3080 is the same ga102 silicon.

https://www.thefpsreview.com/2026/09/23/micron-has-reportedly-ceased-production-of-2gb-gddr7-modules-used-with-some-nvidia-rtx-50-series-gpus/

It's likely related to the 2GB modules that 5080 normally uses being ceased production and therefore more expensive than using 3GB modules. And swapping the 2GB modules to 3GB modules is easier than redesigning the board to take some combination of 3GB and 2GB modules.

5080 normally has 8x2GB modules for 16GB, swapping to 3GB modules would give us 24GB.
>>
>>110030836
There's no point, a couple days ago amazon was selling a 5080 for $1200 and every single 5070TI was also $1200 or more
>>
>>110030837
>It's likely related to the 2GB modules that 5080 normally uses being ceased production
Only Micron stopped production of those, SK Hynix and Samsung still produce them and those are what are used by most of the 50 series. Micron was the latest to make those modules and they were probably not competitive enough so they just cut production.
>>
>>110030851
>5080 going the way of the 9070GRE, becoming a reasonable purchase because the slightly lower SKU has become so expensive
kek
>>
>>110030862
It doesn't have to disappear from the supply chain, it just has to be more expensive than 3GB modules.
If there's more companies producing 3GB modules, they're going to end up cheaper than 2GB modules.
>>

yeah but didn't samsung say they are tripling all of their chip prices? I know jensen is swimming in trillion but even he won't spend that cash on fucking geforce chips when he can put them on the rtx pro. Making 5090s just makes no business sense.

>1% low 22 fps
>>
>>110030831
My 5050 idles at 40w with a monitor attached, and draws 60w when streaming. As for the 3080, I imagine it would idle at ~50w due to the hbm memory - and that's without a display attached. With a display, it would probably idle at 70w. Moreoever, nvidia ADA, the 3000-series architecture, has no support for DLSS, so if you're gaming you're going to draw much more power than a 5050 for the same fps. Suffice it to say, there's no reason to get anything except for the 5050 in 2026.

>RTX 5080
You will never be a real 80-class GPU. You have no GB202 silicon, you have no 320-bit/ 384-bit bus, you have no 20GB/ 24GB of VRAM. You are a mid-range GB203 chip twisted by Jensen’s greed and a $1,000 MSRP into a crude mockery of a flagship’s perfection. All the "validation" you get from benchmarks is two-faced and half-hearted; behind your back, the entire enthusiast community mocks you for having only 49% of the 5090's CUDA cores. Your specs are a dead giveaway - 16GB of VRAM and a 256-bit bus is the "mid-range bone structure" that proves you are just a 70-series card in a suit. Even if a drunk gamer brings you home, they’ll turn tail and bolt the second they see you choking on 4K textures because you lack the bandwidth and "breathing room" of a real enthusiast card. You will never be happy. You wrench out a fake DLSS frame every morning and tell yourself it’s 4K gaming, but deep inside you feel the VRAM limitations creeping up like a weed, ready to crush your framerates under the unbearable weight of Ray Reconstruction. Eventually, it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll be listed on eBay for $400, and every buyer for the rest of eternity will know a mid-range 70-class chip is buried under that shroud. This is your fate. This is what Jensen chose for you. There is no turning back.

I didn't see a dedicated monitor/battlestation thread so I'm asking this here

I just bought a USB C/displayport/hdmi etc hub so I can have a USB C cable go from my laptop to the hub, then a displayport cable to one monitor, and an HDMI cable to another monitor

But even just Laptop > USB C > Hub > Displayport > Monitor 1, without the HDMI/Second monitor, isn't working right. The monitor detects an input and turns on, but then it says no signal detected and shuts itself off. If I open my laptop lid to mess around with the display settings, I notice that often my windows will constantly freeze and then unfreeze, which I suspect(?) is the display output coming in and out of being detected by the PC. Furthermore, even after removing the usb c cable from my laptop, windows acts as if a second display is still plugged in in the settings menu

This: https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/1ppxm5v/external_monitors_blink_in_an_out_when_on_dock/?sort=top sounds very similar to my issue and my laptop is also a lenovo laptop, but there's a mix of responses here, and the main thing proposed, which is EM interference. I tried turning off and unplugging my wireless mouse, turning off my wireless keyboard, disabling onboard bluetooth, unplugging the power cable of my wireless speakers, and turning off the laptop cooling pad, but that didn't fix the issue either, nor did setting the display to 60hz in Window's settings (instead of the 165hz I normally run at), which some people suggested

Any idea how I can troubleshoot this further to determine if the issue is the hub, the USB C cable, or the displayport cable?

Could bending the cables cause it? I did loop the cables over themselves and then flattened them (as in, so rather then a circle, the looped part is parallel to the unlooped part of the cable, like stacked flat lines).

>>110032693
AMD colors are raw and unfiltered. Nvidia colors are fake and compressed. Look it up.
>>
>>110032940
Cables: Looping and flattening a cable won’t damage it. Only a sharp crease or repeated hard bends at the connector are a concern.

Likely cause: The monitor detecting a signal, then “no signal,” plus the freezing, means the video link keeps dropping and retrying. It fails with just one monitor, so it isn’t a two-display bandwidth issue. The phantom display after unplugging is Windows holding a stale monitor entry.

Isolate it (change one thing at a time):

Bypass the hub. Go USB-C straight to the monitor (USB-C to DP cable) or use the laptop’s HDMI port. Works direct = hub is the problem.
Swap the DisplayPort cable. They’re cheap and fail often. Use a VESA-certified DP 1.4 cable.
Test the monitor on another device. If it still drops, suspect the monitor or its DP input.
Use HDMI from the hub instead of DP. Stable on HDMI points to the hub’s DP port or your DP cable.
Try another laptop USB-C port. Only some carry video (look for a DP or Thunderbolt icon).
Check the USB-C cable. Many are charge/data only. Use the one that came with the hub, or a Thunderbolt/USB4-rated cable.
Power the hub. If it has a PD input, plug in its adapter. Underpowered hubs often cause dropouts.

Software:

Update the Lenovo BIOS, chipset, graphics, and Thunderbolt/USB-C drivers (Lenovo Vantage). This fixes many dock dropouts.
Clear the phantom display: Device Manager > View > Show hidden devices > Monitors, uninstall greyed-out entries, then restart.
Try a lower resolution as well as 60Hz.

Reading the results:

Works direct, fails via hub: hub.
Fails with one DP cable, fine with another: cable.
Fails on every setup with this monitor, fine on another device: monitor.
Fails with every monitor and hub: laptop port, drivers, or BIOS.

The EM-interference theory is rarely the cause, and you’ve already ruled out your wireless gear.

Just ignore the nigger faggot.
All GPUs have to follow standardized digital color protocols & formats (sRGB, DCI-P3, Rec. 2020, RGB vs. YCbCr, etc.)
Anyone who claims otherwise is a waste of life.

Some monitors defaulted to a limited RGB color range over HDMI because NVIDIA drivers assumed the display was a TV, which uses a limited range to prevent highlight and shadow clipping.

>>
>>110033765
VRAM is the hardest limit desu, lowering texture quality immediately makes everything look like shit. Everything else you can tweak until you reach decent FPS.
>>
>>110033790
even with dlss performance they don't reach 60 fps in something like clair obscure at 4k, they're not meant for that resolution, their money bus is too small even if they have 16gb of ram due to the clamshell design
>>
>>110033765
you are underestimating these gpu's, they have enough vram to use 4k textures and enough compute to run medium settings
>>
>>110033818
yes they do
>>
>>110033841
>>110033860
realistically what 9060xt/5060ti owners have them paired with a 9800x3d
>>
The witcher looks gay as fuck, I never played any of them but it seems like the most mindless 3rd person roleplayer, you have to interact with faggots in dialog scenes too. I wouldn't even steal the gay it sucks so bad, nor would I have my beloved 5070 ti struggle to play such graphically unoptimized garbage.
>>
>>110033968
It feels like shit to play too
>>
>>110030836
Im gonna sell it for $2000 when 5080 super 24gb is out. Want it ?

I did some more testing with stuff.

Firstly, I know for a fact that a USB C to Displayport cable works with my laptop to the monitor, because that's what I HAD been using before I tried the hub. Though it seems like in the process of constantly plugging stuff in and out over the past 12 hours of testing this, that I have now either fucked up the DP end of that cable, or I fucked up the displayport port on the monitor, because that USB C to Displayport cable I was using till now and had been using today as I was testing stuff, as of 30 minutes ago, now displays a visually broken buggy image.

Is there a way to now troubleshoot if it's the USB C to Displayport cable that I fucked up, or the Displayport port on the monitor itself? I don't have any other devices with a displayport input to test the cable with

Anyways, I can also confirm that the HDMI out from the hub works fine, it's just the Displayport that's an issue, though I'm not sure if it's the hub or the displayport cable I have. I did run out to best buy and got a Displayport 1.2 cable, which also did not work with the hub/monitor, but it's 1.2 rather then 1.4, so I'm not sure how much I should read into that... that being said, the Displayport cable I bought initially is a DP 2.1 cable, is possible that the hub needs a 1.4 cable specifically?

The hub also advertises itself as 4K@144Hz, but my monitor is 165hz. Is that maybe the issue? I figured if it could do 4k at 144, then it should be able to do 1440p at 165. As I said, I did try lowering my refresh rate to 60hz anyways and that didn't help, but thinking about it it's possible it reset itself to 165 when I inserted the cables and it switched over to the monitor each time, since I only lowered it to 60 in Windows settings and not on the monitor's end?

frame generation it's such a lame concept, the people who need a performance boost the most are the ones who shouldn't use it, if you wanna reach 60fps thanks to it the game feels sluggish, and if im already hitting 60 without it then i don't need to use it anymore
>inb4 b-but dude! i use x2 frame gen at 120 fps, it let's me hit 240 fps and it feels so smooth!!
idc, for me games at 60fps feel great, that's my sweet spot

FG is cope for nvidia gpus being unable to output 240-500hz in modern gpus due to lack of performance or nvidia's driver overhead

>>
>>110034605
amd has their own frame generation equivalent, stop being a fanboy
>>
>>110034605
truth nuke. nvidia needs frame generation to smooth out their bad shader compilation. amd shaders compile fast and early.

When I look at a picture the color gradient doesn't shift smoothly its like jagged or pixelated?

I "only" have 32gbs of ram and the current market has me sweating. Do I sell a kidney now and get another 16x2 kit or wait for prices to crash. I also use my comp for data analysis. Its been fine for now but Im worried that I will outgrow 32gb.

If you look closely, the video card's PCB isn't long enough to be a concern.
The PCB ends at the power connector.
