I'm thinking of buying a Asus Prime AP303 case.
Will the airflow be fine with the only exhaust fan being the rear one? The top would be blocked by the desk.
I assume the mesh version is better for airflow (I prefer the looks too)?
>>
>>110037906
AP303's suitability mostly depends on the expected power draw of the PC components.
The case's front intake is blocked by the PSU, you should stick to a sub-300W power draw video card and an X3D CPU if it's a gaming PC.
You could undervolt the GPU to draw around 200~250W as well.

Need some tech support lads.
Got an elderly PC.
Gave it to my brother in law.
Every few months, it'll refuse to turn on.
I reseat the CMOS battery.
It turns back on.

Why?
>>
>>110038061
The performance is too inconsistent on Windows. Today it's fast the next day it's laggy as shit.
>>
>>110038085
works on my machine
>>
>>110038068
Sounds like it could be a dying CMOS battery, but reseating it shouldn't normally fix a PC that won't power on at all. Try replacing it with a new CR2032 first. If that doesn't help, it could be a motherboard issue, a failing PSU, or a power-state problem. When it fails, do you get absolutely nothing (no fans or lights), or does it power on but fail to POST? Also, does unplugging it from the mains for a minute make any difference?
>>
>>110038088
Remember when a Quad Core was fast as fuck on Windows? Not anymore an 8 core feels slower today.

Now that nvidia doesn't give goyim a cut down top chip anymore how will next gen look? (if there even is one)

will there be a gb202-like 6090? or will they only release a step down die? if so, will it even beat a 5090 from today? and if they don't release the fastest they can, will they even compete with amd big gpu?

or will they resume giving goyim big die in 2028?
>>
>>110038096
I'll provide as much detail as might be relevant, because I have a few theories myself, but I was hoping for just a "Yeah, it's X" kind of thing. Which might just be the CMOS.

>Computer is "Off" in that it's plugged into the wall with the PSU switched on.
>The motherboard has a red light on it, this stays lit for as long as it's plugged into the wall.
>Pressing the power button doesn't seem to do anything at all.
>Never had the issue when I owned the computer.
>Before giving it to my bother in law, I put it into a new case. This was a cheapo chinese case from Amazon. So, given it's the only thing that's changed, I can't help but wonder if it's shorting somehow.
>The PSU itself, the power switch is locked in the "On" position, the switch stopped working years ago, and I figured it's better to be stuck "On" than "Off". And the PC worked fine for years after.
>I personally kept the PC on pretty much 24/7, my bother in law is the kinda guy who turns his PC off every night.

I'll replace the CMOS battery, and then take a closer look at this chinky case, because thinking about it, I don't trust it.
>>
New 240Hz/280Hz 4K QD-OLEDs when?
>>
>>110038170
Honestly, I'd suspect the case installation or PSU before the CMOS battery. The motherboard LED confirms it's receiving standby power, but doesn't prove the PSU is healthy. Since the issue started after moving to a new case, I'd check for misplaced motherboard standoffs, shorts, trapped cables, and the case power switch wiring. The PSU switch being stuck on for years is also worth considering. Replace the CMOS battery as a cheap first step, but a dead CMOS battery shouldn't normally stop the PC responding to the power button entirely. My money would be on a case-related short or an ageing PSU.

next one is 360hz vstripe next year
there is a chance 240hz native tvs might come next year or maybe not they will milk it one more gen or whenever hdmi2.2 is coming to tvs and their controllers are redesigned so maybe not

5070 worth £100 more than 5060tu 16gb?
>>
>>110038167
It already got memoryholed but 4090 was also killed and replaced by the 80 super
6090 gr102 will be available when rubin launches unless gr103 is really that good and stomps on gb202 in perf and ppw
>>
>>110038240
5070 is much better for gaming
16gb price only makes sense for people who gen loli porn at home
>>
>>110038244
yh benchmarks the 5070 is quite a bit better but 12gb vram kinda shit
>>
>>110038265
you can expect the industry to not push out games requiring massive amounts of vram for the next few years
>>
>>110038219
>>110038239
But I don't want to pay for 360Hz.
I only want 240Hz/280Hz so I can frame-gen from 80 - 120 fps when I play single player games
>>
>>110038283
they released 240hz qd oleds some years ago so you typing messages online rn seems kinda redundant
>>
>>110038296
Not with the latest panel tech though
>>
>>110038240
the 5060 ti is a 16x card pcie5 but has a x8 electrical layout giving it the same bandwidth of pcie4 x16, It only makes sense for pcie5 boards that bifurcate when both slots are occupied to x8. You get the 5070, you get 12 gb vram while the ti variant gives 16 gb vram. I would go for the cheapest best option being the 5070 ti, but if you buy a 5080 you minus well buy a 4090 or 5090 if you could.
>>
>>110038243
some quiick research shows that next gen the dies for pro cards and gaymer cards will be entirely different so I guess that was pointless then
so they will make a large gaming rubin then
6090 it is
thank you jensen
>>
>>110038301
You need to get the 360Hz panel next year if you want the best panel tech in 16:9 display ratio.
Monitors and PC components/peripherals are mass market goods.
You won’t find parts that meet your exact needs most of the time.
Either set a 240Hz display refresh rate limit or a MFG 3/4x limit.

Actual ignorant retard here. what's the deal with undervolting? how can it give you more fps and at the same time making the card consume less electricity? Is it because the lower electricity consumption makes the card run cooler so no thermal throttling = more fps?
>>
>>110040004
Its tuned to give it safe amount of volts so it doesnt crash at any circumstance normally.
But that causes more heat, which means more thermal throttling.
Cooler cpu has more room to boost and whatnot
>>

Is it better to not mess around with undervolting and overclocking in the 50 series given the hotspots thing....?

>>
>>110040050
Basically as long as you monitor the temperatures you should be completely safe?
>>
>>110040060
The temps go down when you undervolt, its not relevant.

The thing to follow is making sure the card is stable and doesnt crash. Usually you can undervolt to a certain level and it wont show up immediately until a specific combination of elements happen in a game which causes the game to crash and you need to up the volts

You can say the same for the Red Devil.

Easiest way to check is to use the iGPU in your CPU to test wake from sleep.
I'd believe it was the Red Devil's issue if the PC woke up from sleep with no display.

That's exactly what's going on. I'll maybe try some stuff with the drivers. I really don't want to drop money on a new gfx card and I think if the card was failing I would be seeing more issues than what i am now or maybe it's just the starts but other users have reported the same.

If you guys are having strange display issues, completely power drain your monitor before you take more drastic measures (changing hardware settings, rolling back drivers, etc.)

Unplug the monitor's power cable for 10~20 minutes.
This eventually clears the scalar & firmware memory and resets stuck hardware handshakes with your GPU.

DRAM cells lose electrical charge over time. Memory controllers must issue periodic refresh commands to restore this lost charge. During the refresh operation, the controller targets specific memory banks and locks them completely. This hardware lock blocks incoming read and write requests instantly. A locked DRAM bank cannot process CPU data requests. The system must queue or stall all incoming operations targeting that specific bank until the cycle completes.

Modern DDR5 memory modules introduce Fine-Grained Refresh (FGR) modes to minimize operational delays. Instead of locking all memory banks simultaneously, FGR breaks down commands into smaller, distributed operations. Shorter lockup times significantly reduce peak queue wait times. This approach softens the latency impact on application threads by preventing massive backlog buildup in the memory controller queues thus mitigates severe p99 tail latency spikes.

A locked DRAM bank cannot process CPU data requests. It cannot process reads or writes. You know what happens? Stutter and hard faults.
>>
>>110042055
Stutter only a problem on Competitive games
>>
>>110042052
it spins, you just have to push it with your fingers, see~ :3
>>
>>110041868
Also FGR is most useful for single rank setups since normal mode locks out an entire rank of memory to refresh each time
Dual rank doesn't care much either way since the other rank can still function while one rank is being refreshed
>>
>>110040660
I wish I never sold my 4090 after upgrading to my 5090
It's the best GPU Nvidia's ever made
>>
>>110042156
Uh yeah but who cares ?
>>
>>110041868
This is wrong in several places. FGR is a DDR4 feature, not DDR5, and it does not "break commands into distributed operations across banks." It just issues shorter refresh commands more often (2x/4x), and since tRFC doesn't shrink proportionally, total refresh overhead can go up, so you're trading throughput for a lower worst-case stall. The per-bank behavior you're crediting to FGR is actually same-bank refresh (REFsb), a separate DDR5 mechanism that blocks one bank per bank group, while standard all-bank refresh blocks the entire rank, not "specific banks." You've mixed up two different features and presented it with total confidence. Read the JEDEC spec (JESD79-5) before explaining this to other people.
>>
>>110042187
Dual rank chads don't need to worry about silly things like bank refresh modes, it's utterly irrelevant to their daily experience

Its happened on every single motherboard vendor now it is 100% a 9800x3d issue
>>
>>110042470
The discussion isn't "is a Ryzen 5600 enough for gaming?", it's "was a 9800x3d a disappointment in terms of performance gain generation over generation?", but then we get scrubs talking about GPU-bound games and saying it doesn't matter.
Whip out the cities skylines 2 benchmarks, cowards.

720p testing is inherently CPU bound
Not our problem that 9800x3d scales very badly in 2/3rds of games and require a cherry picked game to show >15% uplift

If I want to emulate ps3 and im building a new pc, is going for an Intel cpu my best option? ps3 emulation is really hard, if i choose Intel i can buy a 14600k which are cheap and pair it with ddr4
if i had to go with amd i'd have to pick an am5 cpu and with the current ddr5 prices that's no bueno
thoughts?

The problem is that graph is fairly useless, because a 14600k with 3600cl18 RAM is outperformed quite a bit by the same CPU using DDR5 6000

ram speed doesn't matter that much for ps3 emulation, it's mostly the cpu

How cheap are we talking? For PS3 emulation in particular, a 7600x costs half the price of a 14600k where I'm at, and has lower VRM reqs, and abundant cheap motherboards available

I have an i3 7100, 8gb of ram, and a 1050. I would like to upgrade because of shitty performance in grand strategy games. I don't want to spend that much. Which upgrade paths are there?
>>
>>110043324
If it's 100-series or 200-series chipset, you are restricted to 6th and 7th gen. What is the mobo? If it's ddr3L RAM it's not worth upgrading. How many sticks if ddr4? If it's 1 8GB throw another 8gb in there and get a cheap i5/i7. If you really want to "upgrade" you could also drop a 1080 in there.

It is no longer enough once you have left the plantation and realize how choppy 60 FPS really is. 80 FPS is a 33% increase and a good target as many budget monitors hit at least 165 Hz, meaning a 2x framegen can be used to max out the display hardware. 90 FPS is similarly a 50% increase and is the new "enough for non-twitchy singleplayer" for a long time to come. Round numbers like 100 FPS are also a nice experiment in the age of near-universal VRR support. Everything above is more of a luxury.

i've updated my parts (https://it.pcpartpicker.com/list/zRZGh9), i will look for a case once i have every other component, i'm not in a rush as my legion 5 pro still "works".
Though, i want a sff case because desk space is very limited, but i'm not an expert on cooling and i never had an AIO. i can build a tower by myself but i don't know where to start on cooling a sff.
i have 2 spare m.2 2280 ssd i want to use, is there any 2.5in enclosure to adapt them to the sata 6Gb?

>>
>>110044921
pretty common failure state for physical connections to fall back to 100mbps due to a hardware problem if you're wired in
best case scenario could just need reseating your cable
>>
>>110044937
a reset of the fiber box and router fixed it now back up to 1gbps
75bux is pretty expensive for 1Gigs you guys are getting jewed hard
the fiber line owners are really squeezing people constantly
as a eurocuck im paying 65bux for 1gigs and they raised it not long ago like 20 bucks

>>110044892
I didnt see you have 2gbs and 8gbs on offer however is it true most services are like hardcapped to 1gbps downloads on steam and shit? I haven't tested never so idk
might be a waste then unless there's several people
you also need Wifi7 if you gonna use the faster speeds wirelessly
I would want 8gigs tho for the memes

This case was the best upgrade this year
>>
>>110045147
If you bought the course you would have known to use top as air intake to lower ram temps
>>
>>110045170
i have a 120mm fan blowing on the ram in both cases. the o11d evo just has a pocket of hot air trapped on top that stays too long and heats up everything at the top half of the case while the havn is just a large air tunnel that changes out the entire case air every few seconds

My skyrim/cyberpunk build gets 50 to 40 fps regardless of the graphics settings on my 5080. Sure i can get better fps but for what price? I can throw dice on the street at whatever fps and resolution the cheap vodka allows. Does that make oled worthless garbage?
>>
>>110045189
how can air be trapped? top is supposed to be intake or out
I dont get it
>>
>>110045778
top is 360 rad and the rad is probably too restrictive to allow hot air to leave fast enough and it builds up over a few minutes into a hot air pocket
>>
>>110046176
so top air intake and side/back out take would be better
bottom intake
hmmmmm
>>
>>110046245
i don't know what else to tell you anon, having two 40mm thicc 180mm fans at the side pushing all warm air out of the case really does wonders for mobo/ram temps
i doubt any top intake cope will get close to how well this airflow path works
