How can I force myself to use my x220 as one and only computer?
It's a perfect computer. I shouldn't need more

Ideapad 3 with i5-13420H, 16gb ram, 1tb ssd, 15.1In 2.5K-OLED500nits 165Hz, 100% DCI-P3, DisplayHDR™ True Black 600 New @ 720 euro

Vs.

Thinkpad t14s g2, i7 1185g7 Gen 2, 16gb ram, 512gb ssd, 14inch fhd ips, 1 year warranty left, unknown battery health Used @ 380 euro

I have come to hate IPS screens, especially Lenovo ones but the build quality and lower price appeal to me. Do you think the ideapad offers vfm at 720 euro?
>>

advice on where to purchase the batteries for a t470s?
im afraid if i get some weird chinkshit itll blow up my laptop

ideapas are SHIT
>>
>>110115283
I know I had one break on me after four years with light use. But the ips screens are also shit and give me eyestrain. I dont really care about keyboard feel or any of that shit, it is mainly the build quality that appeals to me about the thinkpad
>>
>>110115753
Find a used MacBook Pro M1 if you want a great screen, should be around the same 720 euro
>>
>>110115902
No macbooks. They are not an option. This was the cheapest oled with a high refresh rate I could find with acceptable specs. How much of a risk is buying a used laptop? Guy had that thing for about four years
>>
>>110116060
Does the dude or website offer a return policy? I avoid Facebook market place at all costs since where I live it's infested with jeets trying to sell garbage.
>>
>>110116109
The website for the ideapad offers the standard return window. Guy selling the used thinkpad does not, nor does any other guy selling used stuff. It is not a facebook listing though, this is from a very reputable site when it comes to used electronics
>>
>>110114331
Everyone, I assume? I don't think the majority of anons are *that* poor to only get by with a thinkpad for their computing (shitposting) needs.

Very comfy build btw.
>>110114370
>I use an old i7-8700
What are its specs?
>>110114569
Zased and surprisingly capable despite being Sandy/Ivy Bridge, given the use case. How much did you boughted them for?
>>
>>110114331
I use an A485 for shitpost, videos, and krita.

>>110116060
>How much of a risk is buying a used laptop?
There's most likely cum on the screen.
>>
>>110116459
I know. But do people even jerk off with laptops anymore? I moved to the smartphone a full decade ago

Is it recommended to change the keyboards/screens of your thinkpads? I have never tinkered with them but I own a T480s, a X280, and a T14 Gen 5—I was looking to see if I should change their display from the one they ship with. I don’t really like the keyboard of the Gen 5 and the display seems a bit mediocre for all the current ThinkPads

If it is recommended to change their screens/keyboards, what is the best option available?

>What are its specs?
It's got 32GB of RAM and a 1050Ti that boots off a 512GB 850 Pro re-used from the FX-8350 rig, it was pretty much ebay'd together on the cheap in April 2024 when I made the return to Linux as the daily OS, I basically had 2x8GB DDR4 sticks and the GPU from an old i5 8400 found in the trash almost 3 years earlier so the B360 board and 8700 were appropriate, it was pretty much built as a fast low power computer to daily drive before Thinkpad Ultrabooks came into my life.
>>
>>110116386
>>110116386
Pieced together over time. Barebones systems, individual components (CPU, ram, drives, GPUs) all bought used on eBay or picked from broken PCs given to me. I couldn't tell you what I have in them, all told.

The S30 isn't fast, but it has an E5-2690, 64gb of ddr3-1600, the two P100s (16gb of hbm2 vram apiece), and an NVME running in a pcie adapter. The S30 won't boot it, so I installed /boot on a shitty 16gb SSD in a sata adapter as a boot shim. root is on the NVMe.

The P100s are cooled with a 80mm server fan hooked to a 3d printed split duct.

I'll snap a couple of pictures tomorrow.

For the front battery, chinkshit is pretty much all you can get.

For the rear battery, you can look for old-stock or lightly-used rear 3-cell batteries from the X230s, X240-X270 and T440(s)-T460(s) gens, which were plentiful last time I checked. You can remove the battery from the case, reroute the ribbon cable to the other side of the BMS board for the connector to fit, and tape it into your T470s after obsessively insulating any surface it could touch. It looks risky, especially with the centre screw hole of the back cover touching the (tape-covered) BMS board, but I've used one like this for almost a year and resold it without complaints.
>>
>>110116605
You can't really upgrade the keyboard on most of them. X230/Tx30 and T470-T480 (and with a lot more tinkering, T490-T14g2) were rare exceptions to this.

I've upgraded the screen on my L440 from the 1600x900 TN (which was unexpectedly painful compared to the same resolution on a T420) to a 1920x1080 IPS. My other pads already came with mediocre IPS which is good enough for me. Changing the screen on anything sold after 2019 is messy since everything is glued in place so I wouldn't recommend it except to replace a broken one.

Which Thinkpad should I buy when my T480s kicks the bucket? keep in mind the webcam bump on the newer models is an absolute deal breaker. I basically want the successor to the T480s.
>>
>>110118721
Currently it seems to be a T14s G2.
>>
>>110118877
The gen 2 laptops are the depreciated price to performance right now, technically if you could afford to buy a brand new chinkpad I salute you because it is technically "the best" thinkpad, I personally wouldn't let the Webcam pitch thing bother me because the newer technology is stupid fast, im waiting for that Gen 5 with the little 1920x1200 14 inch ips screen to drop in value so I can use a fucking ultrabook as my main machine because its stronger than any desktop ive ever owned.

I got a ThinkPad a couple of months ago, switching from a HP laptop that served me well. I can't believe I fell for it. The Fn button is, for some ungodly reason, to the left of LCTRL. To use ALT+F4, then Fn lock has to be enabled, but you can't adjust volume or screen brightness or do anything useful with the F-keys when Fn lock is on. This wasn't a problem with my previous laptop. The ThinkPad turns on whenever you plug the charger, so you have to hold in the power button to make it fuck off and not drain itself when idle. The touchpad has a noticeably delay of at least 50 ms: both on Windows and Linux.
>>
>>110119142
>The ThinkPad turns on whenever you plug the charger
That's a BIOS setting. The previous owner turns that feature on.
You can swap the fn key and ctrl key in either the BIOS or lenovo commercial vantage too.
>>
>>110119142
>This wasn't a problem with my previous laptop
Jesus anon, how old was this HP laptop? I get your frustration with the fn key swapped around, but combination function volume brightness etc is literally the norm for laptops, it was thinkpads that were really the last to integrate volume into the function keys, and everybody threw a huge fit becsuse every keyboard had become consumerized dogshit, but its not a bullshit problem unique to thinkpads.
>>
>>110119205
>>110119185
Yeah, well, not to mention the middle touch on the touch pad acting as a copy, close, AND exit mechanism (always accidentally) with no reliable way to turn it off.

I'll see about the BIOS thing, thanks. The HP was a ProBook or summin'.
