>>
wow wholesome audio science chungus once again defeated by humble broscience what a surprise
>>
>>110168781
for 5128 target you'll need to do a new research specifically for 5128.
They tried to get the next best thing - measured all highly rated headphones from harman research with 5128 to create said preference bounds.
nobody is really satisfied with the results but they feel that they need to reflect correct (or what they think is correct) information. try watching their explanation video maybe it'll make more sense to you
Now the target itself is also a problem. Harman target is unusable with literally all measurement rigs. So it's either take the L and use it in a wrong way or not use it at all
>>
>>110168885
Wow, sounds like headphones lost.
>>
>>110168899
don't worry they have fucked up preference bounds for IEMs too lmao
>>
>>110168885
chinks will take that target, flood market with iems made to match it and then iemg will be praising new hype natural sound that new iems provide.
>>
>make new wider bounds to call more headphones good
>time to shill the new bestest headphones ever
>they don't fit in the bounds
Alexa, play in the end by Linkin Park.
>>
>>110168753
The target is a point of reference, either Harman or your own target, that you can EQ around. What the fuck am I supposed to do with +- 5db bounds? Headphones that fall within don't automatically sound better, and headphones that fall outside don't automatically sound worse.

Posting again, in case anyone can advise me. Can anyone recommend me some wireless noise-cancelling earbuds/iems? I want to be able to put hearing protection on top of them, like Peltor Optime, unless you deem it overkill. Everybody seems to listen to fucking reels on speaker mode nowadays and there are so many fights I can pick throughout the week.

>Budget
Below 100-150 EUR / USD, but flexible. I want the best noise cancelling for the money. So if the sweet spot of bang for the buck is higher, tell me and I'll make sure these last me a long time.
>Intended use (media, source, environment)
media: Listening to music, podcasts
source: Phone or, rarely, laptop
environment: Out on the street, public transportation.
>Frequency response preference and music examples
I don't know enough about spectral analysis and my preferences to say
>Past gear and your thoughts on them

Thanks in advance

/iemg/ Dogma Check
Tired of the hivemind? Here’s your prescribed sanity dose:

>Crinacle is not your priest.
Rankings are a guide, not divine scripture. Your ears > his spreadsheet.

>Harman and JM-1 ≠ perfect.
It’s a preference curve, not a law of physics. Some genres need deviation.

>Chi-Fi isn’t magic.
Great value, yes. Immune to QC issues and hype cycles? Nope.

>Graphs are not sound.
They don’t show staging, dynamics, or fit. Use your ears, not just squigs.

>BA ≠ metallic, DD ≠ perfect.
Implementation matters more than driver type. Always has.

>Meme sets aren’t the whole hobby.
If it’s not shilled 24/7, it might still be good. It's highly encouraged to form an original opinion.

>Disagreeing ≠ cope or deaf.
Let people like what they like without foaming at the mouth.

>Loud posts =/= smart takes.
Confidence without experience is just noise. Show graphs, impressions, or both.

>Cognitive dissonance.
When you're presented with a truth that threatens your entire perception of the world around you, your brain will simply refuse to process it.

This has been your scheduled break from pos groupthink.

It's real pain with reviewers using that shit for few days before publishing review. They can't filter out any reliability problems like breaking headbands with ft1 or ar5k. I strongly recommend u to hold off with purchase for few months. U just never know what chink design is capable off.

First batch is always testing for them, sometimes they even won't update design if it will cost them too much, they usually go for next gen updated model or if brand is so compromised they will just create new one to sell same shit in different box

I tried all their E series. Don't worry about form factor, by far the most comfortable bullets you'll wear. My favorite is the E500, the cheapest one. Great for mids, no sibilance, but no detail either. E500 also does not have a mic or detachable cables, you have to go up to E1000 and above for mic, E4000 above for detachable cables. I personally wouldn't get the E1000, E2000, E3000. E4000 is quite nice, but for me it is way overpriced for the sound and build quality and QC issues. They all feel rather flimsy, versus all metal shell like the Chu. Tldr I can only recommend the E500
>>

But he mentioned fair point. With chinks there is new generation every year or even less. Its get tiring fast. Like if that ar 9000 and ar3000 are that good why making MK2 and so on. Same with chinkfiman. I think I've seen somewhere that he600 has same driver as Sundara. With minimal changes to tuning. Yet it was shilled as next he6se.
I know it's sales strategy, to flood market and reviewers with new stuff every few weeks but it's getting tiring.
At least western brands stick to it's products for bit more. And I think current senh lineup with 480 and 490 pro can still be competitive for years if they choose to support that platform

Yeah, I think ar5000mk2 is more appropriate competitor to 480-490pro. Sen desu should refresh hd500 lineup with something similar. They already have chassis from momentum series.

As with aune ar5000mk1 I almost fucked up buying it early, my wide head would have destroyed that headband after few weeks. I was thinking about buying MK2 few weeks ago but I don't know, for me that classic Sennheiser still have some appeal and maybe 490 pro would be my best bet

well where the fuck is an accurate target for 5128?
or because one doesn't exist we should use other rigs? but target for them also doesn't exist... where's the accurate target?
>While this may serve your purposes for review, I question how much insight or value it offers to the community. I believe confusing preference for accuracy is the wrong play, particularly if we consider audiophiles who seek accuracy, or production professionals who need to understand how their music actually sounds.
ultimate truth is that both IEMs and headphones behave differently on different heads/in different ears
all this target wank is useless if perfectly measuring harman compliant headpos will have huge peak at like 7k for me for example. So who gives a fuck? Value would be inventing better and cheaper active systems OR improving EQ tools which they did btw

The way I read his post, a target is "accurate" with respect to how close it can simulate flat speakers just like the original paper, taking into account all the issues with that, hence his comment on to the best of their ability. So there is a goal for the target to hit, and the closer the more accurate it is. A preference I'm not sure has the same goal, people have varying preferences on their sound signature. Although I'm not sure I'm tripping on semantisc of headphone show calling it "preference bounds".

I'm looking to buy a new pair of IEMs. Budget is under $150ish. I mostly use them for listening to music (jazz and piano) and playing video games (nothing competitive). I'd be using them pretty much everywhere so outside and in loud areas. I use either my shitty behringer audio interface or the iPhone headphone jack adapter, but I'd be willing to upgrade. My current pair is Senheiser IE200s, which I like the sound of, but no matter how many times I send them in for warranty they keep breaking. I also find them very uncomfortable and they fall out all the time. Only other pair I've tried was the KZ Castor pros and I found them much more comfortable. I think I preferred the bigger earbud and them being heavier. Any advice or iem models / brands would be appreciated (:

These look pretty good but I'm concerned about the noise reduction. Do you have any experience using them in loud environments?
>>
>>110181830
Just EQ the bass in
>>
>>110181833
Libra X is also goated
>>
>>110181844
??? Castor has switches for that. No EQ needed.
>>
>>110181838
What the hell are you doing with them? Castor is built like a rock idk if anything else will be more durable
>>
>>110181856
I'm not spending double for switches. $7 it is.
>>
>>110181858
Maybe I just got a shitty pair. I bought my sister some at the same time and hers are still going strong. I just find it hard to put trust in them holding up at that price point.

your faith in KZ castor has convinced me to try them again. Do you recommend harmon or improved bass version?
>>
>>110181914
Just get the $7 ones and EQ them
>>
>>110181945
What's the difference between this: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mtue63l
and the one you sent. This one is $1.50 vs $10 on the one you sent (Canadian dollars)
>>
>>110182027
Get whatever's cheapest for you, it looks like you're looking at the new user discount. Consider getting a TRN black pearl with said discount
>>
foxzo, please stop posting on headfi
>>
>>110182040
Does the DAC make a big difference? That's something I know nothing rly about. If I were to get one though I would want it to work on both PC and iPhone. It's 35 with my discount though so I'll probably go for it.

The names of the two links are the same but the one you sent has "ZSNPRO EDXPRO" added on the end, if that means anything. If not then I'll go for the DAC plus IEMs for under 40 bucks lol.
>>
>>110182078
40cad is a very good price for trn black pearl + kz castor, just get a 4.4mm cable and you're good to go.
>>
>>110181838
>but I'm concerned about the noise reduction.
The Truthear Pure features strong passive noise isolation that blocks around 80% of ambient noise, which is very standard and typical for a non-Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) In-Ear Monitor (IEM).

Aw haha, I totally get why that upset you! :) When you spent a lot of time relying on impressions, it can be uncomfortable to hear the truth about them. That's perfectly understandable! We all start somewhere, and hopefully with a little more experience you'll understand why we see things differently! :) :)

You cannot graph comfort, build quality, how ugly it looks in a frequency response, all of which are far more important than the sound as they cannot be EQed, so reviews are still important.

Amir did the same experiment on the room scale with the same result.
>>
>>110182573
Stock FR doesn't matter because you'll be EQing anyway. You buy based solely on appearance.
>>
>>110183511
yeah, probably. I was thinking about buying something more expensive on sale, like crinear reference or something with these kind of build quality (metal shell), maybe meze alba
>>
>>110183542
>"An authority figure did a vaguely similar-sounding thing once, therefore my flawed math is completely validated."
they will absolutely tear that defense apart.
>>
Hi ASR, look what I found. A user of yours using a minimum phase transform on a manipulated text file to "prove" they altered a physical transducer's hardware decay parameters.

They will throw the book at you
>>

>>
>>110183618
>>110183625
They'll look at the noise floor of the graph and call you retarded.
>>
Imagine being this buck broken by seeing CSD without colorations of the FR for the first time.
>>
>>110183630
they won't care about the noise floor. they will look at the methodology and call you the retard.
ready to admit you falsified a measurement? I'll put you on blast and the people you worship will shit all over you.
>>
>>110183658
The noise floor will tell them that what you thought was the methodology is fanfiction. The actual methodology is measuring an IEM, EQing it, then measuring it again. If it were done in software the noise floor would be the same on both graphs.
>>
Why, exactly, should everything sound neutral? What’s wrong with a bit of coloration? And why major corporations for their most popular products frequently sticking to an extreme boost in the bass and treble collorations?
Looks like general public don't really care, if anything they like that kind of V shape sound more. Could audiophools be wrong?
>>
>>110183667
V shape is neutral when you have working hearing.
>>
>>110183641
actual DSP engineers on ASR will have an absolute field day explaining how you accidentally invented a convoluted way to look at a flat line in 3D
>>
>>110183667
Only trained listeners' ears matter I'm afraid
>>
>"mo, wait, I actually did a real physical re-measurement!"
gimme gimme more
>>
>>110183672
They've seen it many times on burst decay graphs. IEMs are really boring in the time domain. Audiofools stick to CSD precisely because of the artifacts.
>>
>>110183681
>you can measure it once but you absolutely can't measure it twice
Demented cope.
>>
>>110183678
The funny thing is normgroids dragged the bass down a little compared to pure trained listeners.
>>
>>110183698
>Demented cope.
Coming from you. I will enjoy putting you on blast on ASR.
>>
>>110183667
for me neutral sound can only be made by speakers. Chasing that in headpos or iems is like chasing unicorn. An endless pursuit with no clearly defined goal, which audio companies exploit by constantly promoting new targets via influencers/researchers so fools can buy next big "neutral sounding" thing. Research is conducted in a manner reminiscent of the studies once carried out by cigarette manufacturers regarding the harmful effects of smoking. The answer is simple and often very inexpensive (buying speakers and an amplifier from the boomers on marketplace). But this answer is being quietly swept under the rug. Instead, influencers who style themselves as scientists will promote a new, neutral target, preference bounds and so on so u can spend money, be happy for a while, repeat it for next year, and next year as happy consoomer u are.

Tbh buying 5usd (or maybe something with better build quality), eq ing it as u like, and using it for years should be meta. Still sound would not be that neutral as from pair of speakers but at least your wallet isnt millked every year.
>>
>>110183708
Coming from me, who can repeat that experiment any time I want with a rig that I own, yes. You can't even come up with something believable.
>>
>>110183698
He thinks you can't measure it with EQ because he doesn't believe in EQ lol. Moveable points is crazy.
