I've never gone into the irc but I welcome you here anon
>>
Anon asking about t430 in 2026 from the last thread here, found one in pretty rough condition for 50 bucks, yay or nay?
>>
>>110173001
specs?
>>
>>110173006
i5-3320m, 4gb ram(I have 16gb laying around), 135 watts power supply
>>
>>110173001
When you say "rough condition" what do you mean exactly? There's a difference between a bunch of scratches, a couple of keys missing and half of the screen blown the fuck out.
>>
>>110173092
Well, mostly just scratches desu
>>
>>110173133
I see. Preferably you should be finding used retro Thinkpad on flea markets for max 20 dollars a piece, but if you really want the model go for it I guess... I've seen retro Thinkpads sell for hundreds of dollars for some stupid reason.

Will never happen, last ThinkPad I found on the flea market was a x121e and the dude wanted 50 bucks for it.

y my pp hourd too?
>>
>>110172484
yeah, neckbeards who post in /tpg/ with their $100 laptops certainly have a lot of purchasing power

Oh well, its not hard to replace and the oem batteries are still cheap. I paid very little for the laptop so I’m happy still.

This, but unironically.

I have an x230 and been using it for years. Prior to that I had an x220 and used it for about ten years. I need something with battery life and that comes in a nice package, and it has to be new. The only thing I been seeing within my price range is a MacBook Air. A few months ago I seen a friends Google pixel book and it’s honestly exactly what I want. But it’s already eight years old at this point. Is MacBook Air/neo the only thing out there? All other laptops seem to be bulky in someway with absolutely no benefit. Not in thinness but in size. Then there is the issue with macos. Never used it but been on Linux for almost twenty years. Will I regret it?

>Will never happen, last ThinkPad I found on the flea market was a x121e and the dude wanted 50 bucks for it.
Oh, then I guess I must have hallucinated the X61, T60 I bought for 10 euros each, and the T420 I bought for 15 euros.
>>
>>110175419
>it has to be new
why
>>
>>110175680
Not him but new stuff is based, I salute anyone who can afford a beautiful new thinkpad ultrabook or high end judgment of a workstation to run Linux on, but i do think that anon would be happier with something like a T14 Gen2 I remember being obsessed with the idea of a low power uktrabook with 32GB of ram in it, saw hiwnexpensive pixelbooks were, ended up getting a T470 for $85, spent another $100 on 32GB of DDR4, and it ended up being everything I wanted for little money, pretty much anything would smoke the shit out of his X230, use less energy, and hold more RAM (most important spec).
>>
>>110175866
>judgment of a workstation
Chud of A workststion
>>
>>110175680
Because for once in my life I would like to have something new. I don’t want an older computer three or six generations behind. I want something new that can handle whatever I throw at it today and for years to come.
>>
>>110175866
It would cost 400 loicense pounds from eBay to get one.
For a used computer.
This is stupid price to pay to buy someone else’s problems. We should not be condoning these prices. It’s used hardware.
>>
>>110175965
Its worth it, anon. And a used thinkpad isnt "someone else's problem", its a blessing being passed to you for a small fraction of the original purchase price, my thinkpad is from 2017 and I trust that motherfucker more than a brand new laptop from the store when it comes to being there for me when I need a portable.
>>
>>110175924
Old high-end electronics bought used are cheaper & more performant than new low-end ones bought new.
Even more nowadays that everything with RAM/SSDs has price hike.
>>
>>110176167
Not only do you get decent specs for so cheap, but its so well built it won't fall apart on your ass like a cheap laptop, or die out of nowhere like Apple. The thing was a brick but I paid $120 for a core 2 duo latitude in 2015 plus an ssd slapped in, used that son of a bitch for 11 years straight when I needed a basic use portable computer, but it was great because it was less than a cheap ass celeron notebook and came with more ram than they did and the 128gb SSD hooked up to sata 3GBs was still better than 32GB Emmc bullshit in the cheap laptops of the era, a $100-$400 purchase price of a used thinkpad can literally set you up for at least 5 years as your main fucking machine, probably a decade if its a basic portable that you occasionally take on trips.
>>
>>110175924
Progress in CPUs and such isn't very linear. A corporate laptop from 2023 or 2024 isn't noticeably slower than a new one, and you can get one still under warranty, like a T14(s) or X13 gen 5, for about the price of a Neo.
>>
>>110176544
This, every once in a while you get a sandy bridge or ivy bridge moment in laptops where the performance is so far ahead that its not even worth it to get a core 2 duo like I did even if its cheaper, and for a while the 14nm lake laptops were there, but then ryzen laptops came long and started killing it and now people should be paying a shit ton for the T480 like when it was THE laptop that was relatively cheap and had holy shit levels of performance for what it was.
>>
>>110176625
>should be
Shouldn't be*

jesus

Do not pay a shit ton for a 14nm intel laptop lel
>>
>>110176036
>a blessing passed on to you for a fraction of the price
To buy an electronic machine, that is made for a life cycle of four years, at the end of its life cycle for 1/4 to 1/3 of its original price is not a blessing. It’s a rip off.
I won’t pretend otherwise. These machines are practically ewaste. Lithium batteries are made to last two years at their top performance. No new batteries are made for these laptops so you’re always going to have a machine that will perform worse than a new one as well as being four to six generations behind in processing power and paying for the privilege.
I won’t pretend that it is a good deal when it’s not.
>>
>>110176765
>thinkpad
>lifecycle of 4 years
You're cute, Anon.
>>
>>110176798
Find me the warranty statement that guarantees the thinkpad for more than that period of time
>>
>>110176895
If you want a warranty, you buy a brand new laptop, Anon, but be prepared to pay like $2000 for the laptop, so you better get some fucking guarantees with how assed out you're getting, a $100-$400 thinkpad, it most likely will not fail, and if it were to fail, it's a $100-$400 fucking computer, that's a another perk of having such a cheap used computer, is that should it be destroyed or stolen, it's not life ruining, you just get another one.
>>
>>110176926
I can't imagine using cheap shit for something I'm gonna be staring at for years every day. How much do you have to hate yourself?
>>
>>110176940
I love myself enough to not spent way too much money for the task at hand, and for my usage of shitposting, and editing 1080p clips from my phone, my 14nm 6 core still does it fine, and if I wanna to it portably, the dual core 2017 Thinkpad does it just fine to, I think most of the used thinkpads people buy ITT are overkill for the task at hand because the technology is so ridiculous when it comes to what you can get used.
>>
>>110176765
>made for a life cycle of four years
buy a commercial model faggot, that's why people recommend these and the business model dells over everything else.

Its hilarious he's even talking about new laptops when the X230 he's on he beaten handedly by pic rel from 9 years ago which uses less than half the energy and holds 32GB of ram easily and would blow him away, like bro just buy a damn used T14 and live happily ever after for a long time.
>>
>>110177005
the fuck is crystal lights? Some form of meth?
>>
>>110177023
It might be, my mom drinks it while at work on her Thinkpad T14 G5and she's productive on that thing,
>>
>>110177023
It's like Tang for zoomers. His sister drinks it.
>>
how the fuck is a T530 priced exactly the same as in 2018
>>
>>110177047
it has ram and an ssd
>>
>>110177047
Thinkpads are like cars, they get to a point where they stop depreciating and a shitbox worth 5 grand in 2018 is still worth 5 grand in 2026, that's why I tell people to get the newest thinkpad they can for their budget, you can't just point people at a certain model because things change, Ivy Bridge shit shouldn't even be looked at, really no older than 14nm shit, and even the 14nm laptops like T460/T470, their quad core P verions and then the T480 are hard to justify these days, because the six and eight core ryzen laptops from 2021 are so goddamn good.
>>
>>110177064
has 8G ddr3 and a dying 320G seagate hdd at best.
>>
>>110177075
if you wanted the best resale market price for used laptops in the biz you'd get a macbook pro
>>
>>110177097
I'm good, homie
