The dude that made that website is probably dead or forgot about it. Happens a lot unfortunately. People will make some privacy guide and then it never gets updated, or worse still, they update it but it becomes a huge circle jerk like Wikipedia where people actively bicker and argue about what should and shouldn't be included instead of just presenting the fucking options and leaving it up to the dear reader.

What's harder to keep maintained, a Gentoo system or an Arch system? Also, will using Gentoo genuinely teach you computer shit that other distros won't or is that just hype/marketing?
>>
>>110181057
I would say Arch is easier to maintain. Gentoo's not difficult by any stretch of the imagination but it is harder to maintain than Arch at least in terms of knowledge required.

Where Gentoo really shines though is when you learn its system and how it works though. Want to maintain custom patches for software? This is infinitely easier on Gentoo than Arch.
>>
>>110181057
arch is easier to mantain, both will teach you linux shit but gentoo does go above and beyond in that aspect

Kek
But a related question for fellow Ausfags: do you use the local servers (AARnet, etc) or the ones in the US? I only ask because sometimes -Syu and even sporadic pacman installs just stall with connection errors sometimes.
>>
>>110181057
If you are asking about manual intervention and how often do problems arise: Gentoo is harder in that regard, at least the testing version. With Arch you can possibly go on for decade before you stumble on *anything*. (and it will be a single command fix)
I wouldn't call either hard to maintain.
>Also, will using Gentoo genuinely teach you computer shit that other distros won't
It will teach you about compile-time options as it's source code based. Gentoo abstracts those "configure options" into "USE flags", you can browse them there: https://packages.gentoo.org/useflags
>>110181503
Non australian here but in my country there's 3 mirrors and two of them are fucky at times. Arch mirrors are run by literal randos.
>>110180859

How can I get rid of systemd-utils from Gentoo? ( as much as I can)
I don't particularly mind udev (and i can use the USE flags to disable just tmpfiles anyway) but i want to get rid of elogind and systemd-tmpfiles. the without-systemd overlay in the eselect-repository thing assumes elogind and the tmpfiles ebuild I want (tmpfilesd) wasn't building.
What do? does Xfce even support consolekit2 still?
And what about systemd-sysctl?
Is BSD the only realistic option? why does Gentoo not even let you switch back to the old way of doing things?
Thanks
>>
>>110183276
Is there any particular reason you want to get red of tmpfiles or did you just fall for the SyStEmD BaD meme even though tmpfiles is a very tiny binary (not a daemon) that does one thing and one thing well.

There used to be a shitty shell-script version called opentmpfiles but it was buggy and insecure. There's literally no reason not to just use Systemd's implementation. It saves so much boilerplate crap in OpenRC services.
>>
>>110183303
Personal taste really. I kind of just want my system to be more old school. I mean they work fine and they have for ages now but I like to play around with stuff and I want to see how they would work too and if I like it more
Systemd isn't even bad, I just like the traditional unix setup that openRC and all the pre-systemd programs provide.

You need to do some terminal kung fu to set previous kernel as the default. Ask chatgpt for commands. It will reset with a new kernel update though. So save the commands in a text file.

Yeah while searching for a fix there were talks about reverting to older AMD firmware. I don't buy that its AMDs fault though. New firmware landed recently and the issue still persists. It's definitely linus shitting out bugged kernels with no quality controls. Nigga can't even order around his codemonkeys to fix it for some reason when 99% of the kernel is drivers that he has no oversight over.

issues with video freezing on resume, after it's been paused for a while. so quick pause/resume switches work fine.
sometimes the resume, after being paused for a while, continues after 1 minute of freeze.

adding this,#gpu-api=opengl, works. but i get 20w more energy consumption and frame pacing seems 'off'.

any idea why it would cause the freezes? it is not data related, i can browse the files just fine in the file manager while it's frozen.

ROCm is in Ubuntu too. It's in a lot of distros repositories, like Arch, since it's FOSS and somewhat easy for them to package (their LLVM fork can be a bitch sometimes but nothing distros can't deal with)
>>
>>110185138
Does every kernel update work with it though like in fedora?

I was under the impression you were forced to go with archaic versions that probly doesn't support my rigs hardware to alight kernel, driver and rocm.
>>
>>110185204
Every kernel includes the needed AMDKFD driver upstream in the kernel for ages now.

ROCm is just user-space. Red Hat probably has some special backported driver because their kernel versions are ancient (at least in RHEL) but it just works everywhere else.
>>
>>110185213
Yeah I went with rocky as my first go. But shit's unusable as a daily driver. Didn't find any info about debian side from my research and landed on fedora cuz all that shit's baked in from the get go. The only downside is that they're a version of rocm behind for stability reasons. But 45 is landing in a couple of days and I don't want to burn through my GPU due to faulty config.
