Brotherhood of Steel edition. What tech should you buy now before you're priced out of owning it forever?
I purchased 2 intel b60 I found for 600bucks each
>>110202784How are intel GPUs for local AI stuff?
Used laptops. I would just buy like 5-6 now and keep spare parts around. Get really disciplined with your software stack to get the most you can out of the hardware (i.e, running low end Linux DEs, using GTK/QT software (or better: CLI) instead of browser shit, etc. Get your life and data onto locally hosted shit. Thankfully storage is still cheap so you can make lots of backups. I've moved from Rocket Money to gnucash + spreadsheets in libreoffice and I've moved away from using tons of JS/Python/Rust deps to trying to handle things in flatter ecosystems with pinned, vendored dependencies like in C/C++. It takes more work but it is vastly more resources efficient to do this way and also makes it easier to airgap home systems since you don't need evergreen updates for basically all native binaries
>>110204225Great advice. I did get my 4th laptop today and some parts to upgrade/fix the old ones. Also hoarding mini PC's and considering getting a second NAS.
What I want is basically a thinkpad with 16-32GB RAM, a fairly powerful CPU and a classic keyboard. Does something like that exist?inb4 T25

>>110203635Can’t tell yet, I am waiting for my x570 motherboard
>>110201134>>110202784I want to buy arrays of Seagate Exos X20 and Intel Arc B70 and make my ultimate rig real, not sure on the timing though, they are already so fucking expensive and the AI bubble will burst soon so the opposite of being priced out might happen, in fact.
>>110204225I only do no-desktop environmetns only x11 with window managers, for all my personal scripts and programs Python no third party packages only standard library and ctypes bindings to C libraries, I have made my own bindings to sdl3 and use that for graphical applications, I try to stay away from webshit as much as possible. And so everything works perfectly on my old x220.
You all missed the boat on UHD Blu ray drives but you can still buy some TEAC DW-224 drives for CD ripping before the chinks run down their warehouse supply.iykyk
>>110208571>UHD Blu ray driveswhy would anyone buy these if remuxes exist? HDDs are much better storage solution than discs
>>110208571I actually bought two blu ray drives and a bunch of blu ray discs right before the whole AI craze.
>>110204843why shouldn't it? just look at T15 gen2/3, they're relatively cheap
>>110209966It does have a classic keeb though. I absolutely hate the flat keyboard on these newer chinkpads.
