It wasn't until I bought the 9800x3 that I found out that it was an ancient hag 2 year old piece of shit.
I had to wait for zen 6.
>>
Do you guys enjoy working on your computers after you build them?
>>
>>110228714
And will probably mess up zen6's launch like they always do, and make your purchase look like a 140iq play
>>
>>110228728

I used to.
Now I just want the damn thing to work without problems so I can forget it even exists.
After my horrible experiences with custom loop cooling, draining the loop multiple times, having pump issues etc... I want to put as little effort into computers as possible.
>>
>>110228714
you'll be waiting a while since no doubt AMD will delay launch for X3D again and release some non X3D CPUs nobody will buy again first

Whoever decided that the 2 ccx x3d with heterogeneous cores should be launched first in early last year deserves their own special place in hell

My PC just werks. All it has to do is play games and shitpost. The fucking home server made up of garbage parts is driving me mad. Every two weeks something wants to die or stop working or decide it doesn't need an internet connection or to be switched on. I want to just start again with a proper built one but everything as we know has skyrocketed.

>>110228728
I'll put it this way. I bought a wire view pro 2 for my 5090 well after the fact. My power cable to my gpu was over the top of the card. I had a 180 degree adapter so it looked cleaner. The WVP2 only has a 90 degree rotation so if I wanted to maintain a clean look I'd have to route the cable under the card. My gpu barely fits in my case so rerouting the cable would require me to remove the card and my front intake fans. I was so lazy I just opted to get a WVP2 that would orient to the top and it looks goofy as hell with the cable just sticking up. I didn't want to take my card out. Maybe down the line I'll buy another WVP2 with the reverse connector and move the cable underneath the gpu.
>>
Lol everything above 5060ti is basically discontinued.
Every Nvidia card prior generation is also discontinued.
Nvidia basically doesn't sell anything other than AI super chips or dogshit laptop ewaste.

What you’re describing is basically marginal utility per pound. A rational consumer picks whichever option gives the most satisfaction for each pound spent. By saying you’d pay £1000 for the Nvidia card before £800 for the AMD one, you’re saying the extra things Nvidia gives you (DLSS, CUDA, ray tracing performance, AI performance) are worth more to you than the £200 difference. The AMD card is cheaper, but it doesn’t give you enough utility to make up for what it lacks.

Strictly speaking, economists would call this consumer surplus: your utility from the card minus what you paid. The Nvidia card leaves you with more surplus even at the higher price, because you don’t see the two as perfect substitutes. If you did, you’d just buy the cheaper one.

>Do you guys enjoy working on your computers after you build them?
Yes. They all have uses
XP/Win 7 machine mainly booted into NAS as a media centre, powers three XBox 360s as extenders. Occasionally booted into XP for multiplayer LAN games
With the second XP Machine that's my visual studio .net machine
Windows 2K Pro Machine is my visual studio 6 Machine
Win 10 SFF one is a lan games client dual boots into SUSE and has mainly python and tesnorflow and C as well as being a media server and kiwix NAS client
Second Win 10 SSF is also SUSE and powers by MAME cabinet remotely
Win 10 1080Ti box is light gaming and AI stuff
My i5-14 3060s are on a KVM and do everything from gayming to online and clients for my blade servers and fibre san and GPU boards. Generally a couple are working in tandem running LLMs or occasionally genAI. One is good work open and the other is just for surfing and gayming and doing drone stuff.

I use dell m1000e m620 blades hooked via a bocade switch to an md3600f full of SSDs and have two GPU boards, one is 4x vt100 32GB and the other is 2xA100. That's mainly for work which is taking databases that are a few hundred gig in size from ERP and accounting and auditing them for fraud and misgoverance, they are enough power to let me generally model all the variations in account and ERP client images when I need to or mount up forensics images for a accounting team at once.

That being said I am thinking of stopping work because I don;t want to work anymore and have enough security to be able to

I just want the AI bubble to pop or at least deflate a little so I can buy backups of everything. Backup SSDs, HDDs, GPUs, etc. As is I have my entire machine undervolted to have as little heat and power usage as possible so I can extend my hardware for as long as possible. I used to sell my old builds and hardware but honestly now, I'm just going to keep everything.
