guess i can share some interesting results regarding training a style lora with and without triggerword (exact same settings, merge, epochs, downsize, etc.). the style that is trained on is 2n5's. the trigger word used in the lora trained with it is "jz235":

10 different seeds over the x-axis, lora trained w. and without trigger word on y-axis. top is with trigger, bottom without.

true, and I guess for a large varied dataset it would matter less with a trigger, but for smaller datasets like the one I used to replicate 2n5's more modern style (40 images, mostly otoko no kos in skimpy clothing ._.), I think it has a positive effect regarding applying the style to subjects not seen during training, like girls or asuka who is very overfit on noob.

This all assumes you can generate regular images already, if not then figure that uot first and give it a few tries. You want controlnet. NoobAI lineart-anime if you're on noob, and I guess xinsir's promax union if you're still on illustrious for some reason. Feed it your reference image, then generate like normal. Play around with the strength and/or end step if yours lines are more sketches than proper lineart.

An actual guide would depend on your UI, which you didn't specify.

We have NoobAI, which is illustrious with months of further training on top. Stronger Danbooru knowledge across the board, the addition of e621 tags, wider color range due to v-prediction. I frequently use artists with around 100 booru pics, which do basically nothing on illustrious.

Most people still use illustrious mixes on Civitai. They're easier to work with when you have limited gens and can't experiment, and you don't mind using loras for more things because their full library is available with two clicks.
