I'm a Japanese creator making a bio-punk hentai manga. This is my original character, "Altana-chan." Looking for some feedback! The image I've attached is a page from the draft I'm currently working on!Do you think the international community will embrace this when it's released? I'd love to know if you think it has global appeal.
いい順調ですね。けどまあ、どんなリアクションが返ってくるのかあまり分かりませんねえ。頑張ってください。
>>8801396People's tastes are greatly varied, so I wouldn't say there's a "global appeal" to aim for.If you keep it too generic in an attempt to appeal to as many people as possible, you risk it being too bland to really appeal to anybody. On the other hand, if you go to specific into any given niche, you drastically narrow down the potential audience. (Though some artists find their success in carving out very specific niches, that's not your stated goal here). So, though I am completely unqualified to be speaking on anything artistic, I think the goal would be to strike a good balance. Try to find ways to make it unique, to make it stand out, to make it stick in people's minds, all without hitting on designs/topics/fetishes that would turn away large swathes of potential audience. As for what you have shown here, I think you did a great job with the character's expression. I believe that expressions are extremely important, yet often overlooked. This medium allows for characters to display more emotion than what a real person could with just their face. The skill to capture those emotions and put them to paper, while matching the intensity to what is appropriate for that point in the story, is a skill that I personally value. As for my opinion on the overall design, I would need to see more. Always love a good kemonomimi, and the hairstyle is cute. As long as the anatomy isn't too weird, especially in the genitals, I think it's good. (A pet peeve of mine is when the genitals are totally wrong, like being positioned way out of place, or the vagina being drawn as one big hole. Similarly, I dislike when the shape of the breasts is unnatural or unsightly).
>>8801396The international community at large don't pay or know where to buy your stuff. I think the appeal is universal within the medium. There are many imaginative manga with elements of mad science experiment and "world where all x is y" type of manga, are those the same as bio-punk you are proposing?Altana chan's design is pretty good. What kind of character have you planned for her? She looks like a dumb fox losing all her smug.
"Thank you! Your positive and thoughtful feedback is really encouraging. She is a 'Bionoid'—a synthetic lifeform created for sexual purposes by a biotech manufacturer called 'Alterna Science Technology.' While her beast ears and tail were originally optional parts added through post-manufacturing surgery, they eventually became a standard feature due to their massive popularity through promotional materials.Even though she is clearly a human-like being, she has undergone a 'certain process' that allows her to be bought, sold, and 'used' as if she were a mere robot or an object."
>>8801396I would love to hear more about this world that you're building in your series and with your character. How does this special process work? how excited does the character get when she's used properly? From the perspective of a US consumer of anime and manga, what's "hot" that I keep hearing about is Gachiakuta. I like the bodies shapes of the women and girls in that. I'm a fan of slim petite ladies and I love nipples like Urushihara did them. I feel like if they were pierced that would be something you don't see everyday. As a heavy consumer of anime, doujins, physical media, and the like I feel like your character will be perceived well.
>>8801396You have a ref sheet of her by any chance?
>>8801396first of all, great job on the face! that's a great expression she has.second, i think she looks too "normal", especially with the background you're exploring but i'm curious now, don't hesitate to show us ref sheets, rough drafts and background/lore bits!
"Thanks! I'm so glad you guys are interested! This is actually a draft for a manuscript I’m working on right now. The biggest challenges for me at the moment are the finishing touches and the screentone work...**To be honest, I want to keep the details about her a bit of a secret for now. The story is structured like a 'product description' for 'Alterna-chan'—a biotech-manufactured sex bot. **How they exist, how they are used, and what eventually happens to them... The whole plot is built around those questions. Basically, the lore itself contains a major surprise and a bit of a twist (the 'punchline'), so I don't want to spoil the payoff yet!"
>>8805463you're good!very cute cleavage.how many pages are you going for? >the lore itself contains a major surprise and a bit of a twist it better not be dirty old men turned into cute girls!
>>8805463Whew...Now then, I'm heading off to work.Take care of the vacuuming and the dishes... oh, and the laundry too.If you get hungry, help yourself to whatever's in the fridge....Yes. Understood.Altana-chan Sexy Maid versionOkay, see you later.
>>8801396I want advice. I'm not making a hentai but I'm making a manga and I want to know how you draft panels and pace story
>>8809408I usually write out a rough plot in text first, then move on to the "name" (storyboard). Since I often come up with ideas at work when I can't draw, I just jot them down quickly and polish them later.By the time I start the storyboard, the overall structure is already set. So, I spend most of my time focusing on the presentation—thinking about how to make each scene look as cool as possible.I love it when a single page feels like a complete, beautiful piece of art, and I always try to include a "hook" that makes the reader dying to flip to the next page. Figuring out those details is definitely the best part!I’m still an amateur myself, so I shouldn't sound too big-headed. But I’d love to see your manga sometime! Let’s give it our best together!
>>8801396I'd read that if you go crazy with biopunk, I'm talking about sentient tentacle clothing, mechs being puppetted by shoggoths, silt striders, women turning themselves into futas using bio strap ons, etc.
>>8805463>The story is structured like a 'product description' for 'Alterna-chan'—a biotech-manufactured sex bot.>How they exist, how they are used, and what eventually happens to them... The whole plot is built around those questions. The scenario gives me similar vibes to the replicants in Blade Runner.
