Do you think humanity is in need of religion, even one devoid of metaphysical aspects?
Humanity is in need of Christianity. Paste rel for paganism. https://pastebin.com/JZ35Txvn
>>17963226Yes

The idea of "religion" as something in itself is a false one. There's no such thing as irreligious existence. Humans need, will invent, or replace, what we have identified as religion.
>>17964551Why do you redefine religion into meaningless vagueness when it already has a definition?
>>17963226Humans have an innate desire to serve something greater than themselvesBe it religion, ideology, or group collectives
>>17964551>There's no such thing as irreligious existence.Explain further please. What does this mean?
>>17963226I'm less concerned with whether God exists and more concerned with how religion is an integral, irreplaceable spoke on the wheel of society>>17964551I sure hope you're not going down the moral relativism route
Religion is compatible with Atheism in the context of Nontheistic Religionhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nontheistic_religionUnfortunately, Theism and Religion are so closely tied according to the general public that there is basically no hope that such an idea is going to catch on in the west anytime soon. Especially since Atheists themselves also think religion and theism are inseparable ideas.
>>17964551I'm irreligious. I don't believe in any religion.I agree with pic related.
>>17966171You agree with a cripple? Very telling.
>>17966191I don't see why you think his disability has any relevance to the topic at hand
irreligion just leads to mass psychosis.
>>17963226Perhaps 10%(most likely less) of the population can live without one, but we're talking about very specific individuals, the types of people who, if religious irl are religious through rationalising theology rather than just because. Imagine any theological debate you've heard of in history of Christianity and imagine if people cared really much about it. It's not surprising that religious reformers tended to stand on theology with one leg and social application of religion(like opposition to selling indulgences) with the other one - very few people would genuinely care - their religiosity is based purely on feeling and they don't need any abstraction at all. When stripped of genuine religiosity they will adapt other quasi-religious beliefs and your example of temple of progress is a great one - while few people would build an actual temple to progress(or reason), they would often use the idea of it as a substitute of God. Worry about what the future may bring? A Christian will trust God to guide him, a progressive has an idea of future where he's orgasming 24/7 and doesn't work because magic technology did this.
>>17966279Irreligion is sensible. Every religion is a lie.
>>17966279Because basing your life on the belief that magical invisible creatures are floating around in the sky is the opposite of psychosis.
>>17966313>A Christian will trust God to guide himGod is just a fictional invention that is used for political purposes. If a Christian wants a political goal they can say "God wills this". Same with Jews and Muslims etc. Like how conservative Jews say "Jews should own the West Bank because God wants us to have it".
>>17966341It has no bearing on what I've said.
No, any type of mysticism is detrimental to humans. Humans evolved using their unparalleled mind and intelligence to survive instead of being able to run faster or kill harder than our prey. To then turn around and say "man cannot know reality" by proclaiming mysticism directly hamstrings that. It's why non-secular governments and their countries fucking suck dick at inventing stuff. There is no reason to give the next generation a technological edge in life when we merely live in an exam chamber for the afterlife.
>>17966378Your post was rambling garbage, I just picked out a little bit and commented on it
>>17963226Religion not so much, spiritual practices maybe.
>>17963226Yes, we do need to be a little superstitious to escape nihilism.Though the traditional religions are very successful, I doubt they will survive long in a world of AI. The pagan LARP and hippy new age religions have failed to pick up steam, the more philosophical Buddhism seems a lot weaker than Abrahamic religion, I don't see any Buddhists forming wholesome communities like Muslims, Orthodoc Jews, Mormons and Amish, just some middle class hedonists. An option is to create a reformed version of these that aims to bring the happiness and genuine dedication seen in these groups while curbing obvious flaws like pacifism or isolationism.
>>17966338>magical invisible creatures are floating around in the skyI've never heard a religious person describe their beliefs this way.
