>>17964426Deadliest warrior? Someone from a western nation or culture. Most overrated? Samurai. Only rated by weebs. Imagine a 5'4 "warrior" being confronted by a 6 foot tall Knight with a sword made with better steel than his pathetic katana.

For me, it's the Irish Gallowglass.Originated from Norse and Gaelic clans which had intermarried, they were the staple "elite" of late medieval/early modern Gaelic infantry. Really love their earlier armours, but their later ones with the open helmets were good too. The "iconic" helmet they wore can be best seen via the "Lough Henney Helmet", a surviving example which has been replicated many times.A cool battle they served in was the Battle of Curlew Pass, where they charged English cavalry head on and won.
>>17964426This is a /k/ thread.
>>17964426I always wondered how a match up between a warrior of the Shorn Ones warrior society of the Aztecs, apparently the most prestigious society of warriors for them, versus a regular Japanese Samurai of the same time period (let’s say 1500) without any gunpowder weaponry.I guess victory is also decided by the terrain type, weather, the type of main equipment and weaponry they wield, and the distance between combatants.
BoadiceaMaster of war and make the moids seethe on fear 3:>Boadicea was tall, terrifying to look at, and blessed with a powerful voice. A cascade of red hair reached her knees; she wore a golden necklace of ornaments, a multicolored robe, and over this a thick coat fastened with a brooch. She carried a long spear to frighten all who laid eyes on her.

Early adopters of firearms and field artillery in Europe. Cool fashion and overall a successful military history.>>17964482Wouldn't the samurai have quite the advantage when it comes to armor?
>>17964713>ArmourOnly in weight maybe. While Japanese Armour wasn't bad steel Armour was still more resiliant.
>>17964713Deleted my previous comment to answer more. Yeah while the Samurai would have better armor, the Aztec’s cotton armor was still resilient to any sharp cuts (obsidian is sharper than most metal blades) or blunt hits, but not sharp precise thrusts. They usually wear a strong decorated wooden shield and helmet too. Other than a Macuahuitl, they also have obsidian spear good for thrusting, obsidian is very painful when struck, especially when it shatters and lacerates your open wound, though the guy must get lucky to hit one of the Samurai’s open spots.
>>17964426Did Macedonian companions ever get an episode? I feel they are slept on.
>>17964780Still seems like a 1500s samurai would have quite the edge. The aztec would need to have the drop on the samurai and in those scenarios the ambusher usually wins.
>>17964884The Samurai has the edge, but I guess it comes down to where is the battle taking place, from how far, and who has homefield advantage?
>>17964895And who has better training/experience, and ferocity in battle? The Cuachicqueh are usually veterans of multiple wars and have captured many enemies before attaining their post.
Alvin York, the archetypal reluctant warrior. A hillbilly Christian pacifist who turned into a one man army to protect his bros, using the sharpshooting skills he learned from hunting in Appalachia to yeet the Boche.
When i was a kid I genuinely believed this show was super scientific and accurate and now looking at it as an adult it all seems completely retarded.>>17964482The samurai would fucking obliterate the Aztec and I say this as a huge mesoamerica fan, its not even close.
>>17965060Damn that sucks :( I thought it’d be closer
>>17965089The Aztecs were ferocious and well trained but their lack of good materials completely handicapped them. The samurai's armor alone would be an absolute game changer, they can't really do anything to it with their obsidian and flint weapons, but samurai weapons would tear through the aztec's armour.
