How would you respond to this without sounding mad?

>uhh TECHNICALLY based on semantic wordgames i didnt do anything wrong, im da king so i can do whatever i want whenever i want to, i get to confiscate your land and your money and execute and imprison you for random bullshit reasons and sell you out to foreign countries and invite foreign mercenaries to rape and pillage cuz im da KING!!!
>now let me go so I can execute all of you. Come on, chop chop!
/his/ actually considers this a good legal argument.

Tell them the truth. Their hypocrisy is the worst part about this. Admit getting beheaded is pretty far up there though, right after the hypocrisy. Be a man.

RIP Norm

Its darkly comic that the most wit/intellect Charles I ever displayed was lobbing gotchas at the prosecution during his own trial

I will not delay you long, but will say only this to you: as God as my witness, I have forgiven those that have brought me here and pray that my death be not laid to their charge. For I do endeavor, even to the last, to maintain the peace of my kingdom. I go now from a corruptible to an incorruptible crown, to everlasting peave.

>uhh TECHNICALLY based on semantic wordgames i didnt do anything wrong, im da parliament so i can do whatever i want whenever i want to, i get to confiscate your land and your money and execute and imprison you for random bullshit reasons and sell you out to foreign countries and invite foreign mercenaries to rape and pillage cuz im da PARLIAMENT*!!!
*actually a minority fraction of parliament made up of those not purged by the army
>>
>>17965426
you can't commit treason against yourself retard
the King's legal argument was sound but it was a vae victis victor's justice scenario
>>
>>17965739
yeah thats crazy nigga im still not letting you steal my land and kill me bend over the fucking block
>>
>>17965739
Sounds like a scenario where it’s legally correct but practically and morally retarded.
>>
>>17966778
So a sound legal argument
>>
>>17965739
>uhh actually this little book me and my friends wrote says i can do whatever i want to you and you cant defend yourself
>WHAT THE FUCK YOU'RE DEFENDING YOURSELF? Ugh this is tyranny, you really think might makes right don't you?
>>17965681
Excellent performance in an excellent movie but they wrote him as WAAAAAAAAY more composed, intelligent, and sympathetic than he was irl.
Charles was treated with kid gloves for a long time and had a billion opportunities to stay alive and stay in power by just not being an outright hostile manchild and abusing his country every chance he got and he turned down all of them essentially just shouting "IM THE KING I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT LALALALALA I CANT HEAR YOU!" anytime people tried to have serious discussions with him. In court he was shouting over people, tugging on people's coats for attention, banging his cane to make loud noises and disrupt people, even hitting people, It was like having a spoiled 6 year old ruling the country. His level of childishness and entitlement FAR surpassed the norm even for kings of that time. Charles' fate was 100% his own fault.

even the Mongols knew better than to spill royal blood
>>
>>17968199
The royals they fought weren't retarded enough to start another fight when they decisively lost their first one
>>
>>17968199
Yeah so they'd just strangle or trample them to death instead. Big difference.
>>
>>17966908
why should some meme kangaroo court with no real authority be given the dignity of actual court proceedings
>>
>>17968735
why should an incompetent, petulant clown that not only drove his realm to a civil war but attempted to restart said civil war after being offered gracious terms be given the dignity of actual court proceedings
>>
>>17968635
wrong. in mongol times the royals were even more retarded because it was warmer. Warm climate slows down the brain as ancient physicians such as Galen etc explained.
>>
>>17968720
To the mongols it made a world of difference
the gods of the Sea of Grass were very strict when it came to such things.
>>
>>17968199
true, Charles should have been executed by being wrapped in a carpet and trampled by the entire New Model Army's cavalry wing instead
>>
>>17968967
Sure, but it probably made no difference to the people of the kings they killed. Or to the killed kings themselves.
>>
>>17966826
Successfully arguing the legality of something doesn’t make it right. That’s why laws change all the time. Many laws align with morality and logic, but not all of them.
>>
>>17966908
I love that movie and the performance, but I agree. Charles I rates as the all time worst King of England in my book—even worse than John.
>>
>>17968735
>the dignity of actual court proceedings where a ridiculous adult toddler holds absolute control over the result(im sure he'll be very quick to acknowledge his own immorality and guilt)
>>17969214
It was a good move imo, real Charles I wouldn't have been a very engaging villain.
