There was generally an Indian diaspora in the Middle-East after the Muslim invasions of Northern India. There were a lot of devastating wars and a lot of locals fled West, others were forcibly moved etc. Then some of those people moved further North West during the Ottomans and "became" the Gypsies. "Became" is a strong word though because it was actually a bunch of different groups with no cohesive identity, only outsiders saw them as such because they looked somewhat similar. They only really started becoming something close to one ethnic group in the last 100 years (after they were all forced to settle down, so the original travelling groups got mixed or broken up), and this was mainly done by a few elites constructing a largely artificial identity.There is no known Gypsy folklore about their origin in India or the Middle-East, which is rare, usually migrant diaspora groups have some legend about their old homeland but Gypsies basically forgot about it. I think this is because they were just groups consisting of a few families travelling together with little contact between each other. Because of that they had no cultural institutions and elites that could preserve histories. The oral histories they had were basically family history, which gets forgotten more easily over the generations. So Gypsy culture revolved around practicality and interacting with the majority population in Europe. Modern Gypsy culture still preserves archaic elements of their countries' rural populations' cultures, but nothing identifiable as Indian.
