I think it's good that fun little historical anecdotes like this get popularised so much that they become mainstream. I love history, most don't, and fun ways for the ocean of stories like this to reach the ears of people who otherwise wouldn't have a clue about any of it is cool.

I read about him here years ago. I wouldn't have seen it on reddit. But now there's t-shirts and bumper stickers about him (relatively) all over the place, references in other media, and it's just become undeniably reddit.
