Funnily enough the "secular" republic and NATO member is the most prolific persecutor of religious minorities in the 21st century.

I’m around a lot of Middle Eastern Christians in the Detroit area. There’s a Maronite Church nearby that has a fair in the summer with some good food and music. I went to a service there once and they had a “praise band” typical of western churches but with spooky minor key tunes. I know a lot of Palestinians who are Antiochian Orthodox—very successful in medicine and business, kind of like Jews, and their services are a mix of English, Arabic and Aramaic. Iraqi Chaldeans are seen by other Middle Easterners here as the alpha hustlers, running all the grocery and liquor stores and gas stations in the ghetto, and now they’re big in the booming legal weed business. None of them have beef with Muslims but there’s kind of a class thing as Christians are more successful, “white” and have deeper roots here back to the early 1900s.
