I find the mix of traditional Prussian military culture and Soviet weaponry/equipment interesting. As someone who is strongly anti-communist, I think East Germany was the most successful Socialist state (far better than other Eastern bloc countries).

There is still Ostalgie today regarding East Germany, and for good reason. The NVA were extremely precise and disciplined, and they were equipped with only the finest Soviet kit, such as MiG-29s.
