Why magic mushrooms weren't used as much as alcohol throughout history?
>>
They are unpredictable, spoil fast, and dosing was a mystery. Alcohol was a controlled, reliable high that also purified water and stored calories. Shrooms just couldn't compete for everyday use.

Bad trip is worse than hangover
>>
Harder to cultivate Mushrooms since they require very specific conditions and climate to grow. Alcohol by contrast can literally be made by anyone as long as you have water yeast and sugar.
Kind of a similar story with Cannabis. While the ancient Romans knew about Cannabis (known to them as " Cannabion" or sometimes "Schoinostrophon") and even to the Ancient Greeks by way of the Scythians, it was never a significant part of their cultures compared to alcohol, since it often had to be imported via traders from Kashmir.

>eat stew made from weird mushroom
>smell colors and see sounds, wake up naked in the next town over
Guess which one he'll be doing again

The answer is the statist agenda. Magic mushrooms are inherentely anti-authoritarian, while alcohol is the most authoritarian of all drugs. And authoritarians will always be in power, especially in times of chaos. The people that are pushing chaos and chaos on the masses, such as the media, Hollywood, government officials etc... all have alcohol running in their blood and are therefore the main culprits of any chaos ever to take place in human history. Magic mushrooms could not be controlled or used to make the masses more obedient. Totalitarian regimes, especially with the new social media being the brainwashing tool, have been able to gain a higher degree of control over the masses through alcohol. Alcohol is a dis-inhibitor. Once inhibition is reduced, it is very easy to manipulate the victim and tell them what to think. The powers that be do not want the masses to be able to control their own thoughts and actions. That's why alcohol, cocaine, opium, sugar, and cannabis (the last two having been invented by modern pharmaceutical companies) are widely available in society, while brain-enlightening drugs like LSD, MDMA, ibogaine, and psilocybin are highly suppressed and demonized.

>Be ancient Scythian in Ancient Greece
>Build tent
>heat up a flat stone over a fire
>Toss some marijuana buds onto the hot stone
>THC oil instantly turns to vapor
>breathe it in
>Get high, feel rush of bliss and euphoria and spend the rest of the night telling ghost stories and listening to your bros strum some chords on his lyre
>praise Zeus or whatever

If you include prehistory, they probably were. Alcohol is about as old as farming, which is relatively recent, while shrooms can be found in the wild and were probably used by cavemen since forever.

Alkaloids are probably the oldest drugs as they can be found in nature and can be consumed without much preparation.

>Alcohol is about as old as farming, which is relatively recent,
Untrue. It's widely believed that ancient humans first consumed alcohol on the African plains, as ancient hunter-gatherers would often gather honeycombs and honey from beehives, and sometimes natural mead would form in these beehives after monsoonal rains that are common in some parts of Africa, as water would flood beehives while mixing with honey, and since yeast naturally grows on honeycombs, this would cause it to yield naturally fermented mead. It's also generally believed that alcohol was one of the first narcotics that humans deliberately cultivated for similar reasons.

They are rarer, plus they are generally less practical as narcotics than alcohol. They take you completely out of comission. Alcohol doesn't do that unless you drink a lot of it.
>>
>>17983042
They're rare and really fucking hard to grow without electricity and modern materials to give you ideal growing conditions. You basically had to go foraging for Mushrooms, they only grow in very specific climates, and they only grow during very specific parts of the year. Oh yeah and they also tend to grow in dim, damp environments, so they're much harder to find. Oh and one more thing, if you are shit at identifying magic mushrooms you could accidentally eat something that straight up kills you instead of giving you a drug trip

Compare to alcohol, which is literally just old grape juice, alcohol is cheap, and literally anyone can ferment their own alcohol, whether you were rich or poor. I recently fermented my own mead and all it required was honey, water, and some yeast. Alcohol is so insanely easy to make that it was pretty much impossible to enforce prohibition on it because you can literally make alcohol on accident without even trying if you left some juice out to ferment in a jar. It doesn't make alcohol a particularly good drug (I prefer weed personally) but its pretty obvious why it was more popular throughout history. It would almost be even more weird if it wasn't so popular to be honest.

Mescaline was the historical equivalent of magic mushrooms and LSD
>>
>>17983145
Pretty sure that can only be found in New World plants, and wouldn't have been widely known about outside of a few pre-Colombian tribes

Because you need to stay hydrated, but you don't need to eat mushrooms.

alcohol is a terrible means of hydration

Eh, watered down wine is pretty okay. You can drink that shit for days without even getting a buzz.

They don't really care about being eaten. They make us hallucinate for some other reason (not sure why).

sticks and stones were better than tech until certain things happened

States, temples, and rulers quickly realized alcohol could be taxed, standardized, and tied to Christianity.

Booze is a tool for control. A drunk peasant is compliant and stupid. A peasant on a shroom-fueled spiritual journey starts questioning the king, the pope, and the entire oppressive system. The powers that be needed a dumbed-down populace. Alcohol keeps you numb. Psychedelics wake you up, and that is always been a threat to (((them))).
>>

Mushrooms last a day and turn you into a babbling prophet. Beer lasts about an hour before you piss it out, and it either makes you a total cunt or a happy retard. I mean I saw a dude who was on shrooms who decided he was gonna be the devil that night and acted like a real douche but I'm making a point here.

Shrooms are awful for regular use despite what Silicone Valley psychopaths will tell you. Beer is good because it's cheap, it gets you where you need to go, and it doesn't overstay its welcome and invite demons.
>>
>>17985696
It doesn't come from that
>>
>>17985696
What use is being awakened when they do nothing either lol. Surely dopers and drunks calling themselves superior to the other is exactly what (they) want anyway.
>>
>>17986165
Shrooms last around 6 hours which is why they're (or rather, synthetic psilocybin) is used for psychedelic assisted psychiatry, you can fit the whole session and the pre/post work needed in a single work day as opposed to acid which lasts longer.

Yakut and Eskimo shamen would feed these fly agarics to reindeer, then collect the reindeer piss and drink it in order to get high. I'm not sure why this is preferable to taking a small dose of the mushroom itself but that's the tradition
