It's inaccurate and misleading. The Romans never called themselves Byzantines, nor did any of their contemporaries. The term "Byzantine" was used after their fall because western scholars were biased against the Eastern Romans and didn't see them as truly Roman. The former people of the empire called themselves Romans until the 19th century.
"Byzantine" isn't even any more distinguishing than "Roman". If it's pre-476, you say West and East Rome, and I don't think anyone will be confused if you talk about the Roman Empire in the 10th century, it's pretty clear that you mean the empire based in Constantinople

Yeah, Gibbon poisoned history with his inane babble

Romans are Latin people. In the strictest sense, I would say "Romans" were people living in Rome/the Papal States.

>>17983343
Köçek Empire would be a better name for it.

It's inaccurate and misleading. The Romans never called themselves Ottomans, nor did any of their contemporaries. The term "Ottoman" was used after their fall because western scholars were biased against the Muslim Romans and didn't see them as truly Roman. The former people of the empire called themselves Romans until the 19th century.

BEHOLD, THE ROMAN EMPIRE

"Roman" is more of an idea or a condition of the heart than a tangible thing that you can touch or see

>directly administrated area
>almost zero infrastructure built in hundreds of years of occupation in those areas
t*rks were legitimately sub humans compared to the actual Romans

The word Byzantine is a convention used to distinguish the shitty christcuck empire from the real Rome. It's pretty easy to understand if you're not mentally challenged.

But enough about byzantrannies.

>roman christians
Oxymoron.
Christcucks will never be Roman, their empire will never be more than a degenerate shithole insulting the name of Rome.

They literally called themselves the “Sublime Ottoman State” you faggot. They never called their state Roman like the eastern Romans who called their state Βασιλεία Ῥωμαίων meaning “Empire of the Romans” in Greek.

I've been reading about Mystras and looking pictures of it. Last century of the empire and they were still throwing punches, building formidable buildings and producing world-class art/texts. So yeah, Romans until the end (and beyond if you take madlads like Krokodelios Kladas into account)

It's fine to have Emperors, they said.
Moving the capital to other cities around the Empire won't be a problem, they said.
Rome has nothing to do with Rome. Said the wokes.

I prefer Constantinopolitan Empire.

Romans did a lot of bad shit to provincials as well. Ruinously high taxes to enrich corrupt officials, and arbitrary acts of violence and rape by soldiers acting with impunity were common.

These all stopped by Augustus THOUGH
