Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

>>17985300>>17985303what made america great, what made it such a nice place to live, in your view, do you believe blacks built it, do you believe civil rights activists and trans rights activists fought for our freedoms, what is your mythos
>>17985328Thats a great picture
>>17985328NTA, my personal take is what made America great was its rejection of Old World dogma and identity politics, this attitude enabled fierce reclamation of land and enabled an industrious population the likes of which had not been seen before in human history. America was always a (relatively) multi-ethnic country, but it was this ideal that everyone should have the right to self-determination, and not be burdened by having to live up to their peers, but could choose to live the way they see fit, that made this country great.
>>17985404>this ideal that everyone should have the right to self-determinationI think it would be very hard to prove a concept of "right to self-determination" had anything to do with this country's history prior to the late 19th century at the earliest. What the founding fathers talked about was life, liberty and property.
>>17985443Fair enough, but many of the founding fathers were abolitionists, and although they believed in voting to be limited to land-owning whites (land-owning doing the heavy lifting, reminder most whites, even when the country was founded, didn't own land), I suspect they would've believed in a "separate but equal" approach
>>17985311Surprised he doesn't hate everything to do with the West and Christianity, but a stopped clock twice a day, hey?
>>17985228They absolutely did not.
>>17985533Serious cope
Real tyranny is thinking your conscience is the universal standard for good. At least a greedy robber baron can be bribed or reasoned with. A sanctimonious busybody? They are on a divine mission to fix you, and that’s a game with no end. Who died and made them God?
>>17985860no one forced anyone to migrate to puritan colonies

It's always funny having Ellis Islander types seethe about the Puritans when the gossip networks in any Irish/Italian neighborhood would've made the Puritans blush

>>17985933>>17985941The social structures and material interest groups which caused the homeless epidemic come from Puritanism.
>>17985945TIL: Homelessness doesn't exist in countries that weren't settled by Puritans
>>17985945homelessness is caused by drug addiction and/or mental illness. Puritanism definitely didn't cause the former, and barely caused the latter (at worst, it's a fellow symptom)
>>17985996>Implying that both aren't caused by psychotic individualism and just worldism
>>17985244Puritans weren't Americans, they were Englishmen, and even amongst those who emigrated to the New World at least a third returned to England.
>>17985162Weren't Puritans the ones who died out because they refused to fuck?
>>17986098no. the inferior ethnic groups refused to stop breeding and that is why we're in the mess we are today.

>>17985870I don't want you to sodomize children in public bathrooms and be celebrated for it, tranny
>>17985162>better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodiesWhy choose? The initial wave of colonists rapidly horded political and economic power in the colony and actively worked against the prosperity of later groups. The most prominent families had established themselves as above and separate by the second generation. They were just as rapacious and greedy as any industrialist. The colonies in Connecticut and Rhode Island weren't just founded with religious exiles, but also from people trying to escape out from under the economic thumb of the first families.
>>17985945>I'm homeless because you won't let me live in your house!Fuck off dude, you're homeless because you're too incompetent to build/rent/buy your own living space.

>>17985228America was founded and built by get-rich-quick schemers hungry for land and resources and the Puritans only had power in Massachusetts for around a century. They're remembered for banning Christmas wearing funny outfits and burning people at the stake. The actual colonists that did the hard work were perpetually drunk and looking for easy loot. Tobacco built this country not a fringe group of hardcore christcucks.
>>17987640This is a retarded take. The puritans were fucked up christfags, that is accurate, however there were benefits to be had from their culture. They were a very disciplined, literate, and industrious people. Read Albion's Seed. Puritan New England was a flawed, but actually sustainable society. The southern cavaliers were just north american conquistadors basically. Borderers were chaotic-neutral riffraff.
