The Serb nobility, drunk on visions of their once great Despotate or whatever, wanted a Serbian dominated state. There was also economic resentment as well. The North, the parts closer to Austria, was richer and didn't like their tax being taken away.This all came to a head in WW2 and resurfaced after Tito died once the economic problems hit.
Nobody wants to admit it, but someone really has to say it at this point. Slavs and Nords are basically pale bantu. Always were, always will be.
