>She was then sentenced to life in Siberian penal labour camps, only narrowly avoiding the death penalty due to being a woman.

Oh damn my bad. I just had a note called "girl who shot general Trepov" to look into later and ChatGPT sperged out mixing information and gave me Spirdonova instead?
It was actually about Vera Zassulich shooting general Fyodor Trepov in 1878.

Correct info on Spirdonova
>Spiridonova first rose to prominence in 1906 when she assassinated Gavriil Luzhenovsky, a local official in Tambov, in retaliation for his brutal suppression of a peasant uprising. She was a young, novice revolutionary at the time. Following the assassination, she was arrested, severely beaten, and sexually abused by the police. The details of her abuse were widely publicized, turning her into a martyr and a revolutionary hero across Russia and internationally. After her trial, she was sentenced to a Siberian prison, where she spent over a decade.

By comparison Vera Zassulich got off scot free. It was before the wave of terrorism had hit Russia, she was acquited for shooting Trepov due to the public sympathising with her and she fled into exile in Switzerland where she became a Marxist writer and lived to old age. She got to see the revolution in Russia but condemned it as a perversion of Marxist principles, then died shortly afterwards. Pic related is her.
