Why did rulers care about the masses instead og going full Caligulas when their opinion didnt matter jack shit?
Why were there some aristocrats that werent machiavelian?
Why did people dislike executioner work when you can kill people?
Why were they pariahs in medieval times but less pariah in modern times?
>>
Executioners performed necessary work but were socially unclean, like butchers.
>>
Because power is a system. If you go full Caligula, the masses or the aristocrats you've pissed off eventually revolt and chop your head off. Most rulers were smart enough to know stability requires some buy-in from below and allies among the elites.

As for executioners, nobody likes the guy whose job is literal death, even if the system needs him.
>>
Because the masses grow your food and fight in your armies.

Walk up to someone and say "Hello, I am a professional executioner. My job is to execute people. I am not joking" and see what a pariah you are.

Because they bleed and die just like everyone else.
For a very recent example, see what happened in Nepal just practically now, the corrupt gov went full tyrant on people and now they were taken down by a mass of furious peasants willing to use violence against them.

Retarded frogposter, Caligula's death literaly gives you the answer. Also Machiavelli specifically advocates being on good terms with the masses.
>>
Masses can overthrow you by numbers alone, so it's in your interest to keep them on your side or happy.
Just look at the amount of rulers killed in rebelions, assassination, betrayals exiles etc.

What about places like North Korea? Can you keep yourself in power and abuse the masses as long as you have a robust propaganda network, secret police network and keep the elites happy?
