Why didn't they just revolt? Why continue to be slaves if YOU'RE the strongest part of the army?

Because they liked the benefits they got and being categorized as slaves was irrelevant.

They were recruited from slaves, and were technically slaves, but they weren't treated as slaves in the "American chattel slavery"-sense where you could buy and sell them as property at all. Their social status was also not that low on the hierarchy. The purpose of recruiting from slaves was to ensure loyalty to the Sultan. But they were paid, could own land, start families, and eventually even retire and serve as administrators or bureaucrats. People actually started to enslave themselves to get into the Janissaries because the possibility of social mobility and higher social status was better than whatever they were doing.

It's kind of like why would Washington and the Found Fathers call the leader of the United States "President" when the term at the time referenced leader of a local university or why did Stalin keep his title as "Secretary of the Communist Party". Just because we use a word for something and has a modern connotation we associate with it, doesn't mean others or everyone treats it the same. Janissaries were "slaves" but not in the way you're thinking of, ya retard.

they do it for free
>>
These pashas were governing over major territories, basically slaves only in name
>>

Cuz they were tortured and beaten down. Its not that hard to break a persons will, especially a childs, and this psychological control is what really keeps people in line. Horse and a whip.
Also they did "revolt", all Sultans paid them well if they valued their lives.

Jannies werent recruited from slaves, they were enslaved to be Jannies.

>if YOU'RE the strongest part of the army
But they weren't?
The Ottoman military was always all about cavalry.
>>
>>17988231
No it was all about Guns, Sipahi incels were basically just seething and malding on the sidelines while the Janissaries did all the work.

>be a highly respected soldier at the centre of one of the most powerful empires in the world, with numerous opportunities and advantages
Or
>go back to squatting in a squalid village in the Balkans waiting for the next village to come slit your throat in the night as they rustle your goat (singular)
>>
>>17988236
Not like they had a choice
>>
>>17988278
They had the choice to revolt but didn't
>>
>>17988284

>The janissaries revolted
this is the most common sentence in Ottoman historiography because they did revolt quite often.
>>
>>17988231
*Turkic armies were cavalry heavy
The Ottoman one was a gunpowder army though
>>
>>17988182
>>17988189

>>
>>17988631
Janissaries kinda took over as well, just more like a deep state sorta force
