Atheism is just a contrarian reaction to religion. All of earths peoples developed a religion and then atheists came after. Nobody developed atheism first
>>
>>17992595
Atheists are coping cucklets by nature, let them cope and die. Gods won't reveal themselves to them even in death, because they aren't worthy. They were made to be jeet-like shudras.

Greeks developed monotheism among philosophers as a reaction to popular religion

Jews developed monotheism among the Hasmoneans and forced it upon their society as a reaction to the encroachment of Hellenism, with people in Judea eating pork and worshipping multiple gods even in the time of Plato
>>
ChristLARPing is just a contrarian reaction to liberalism.
>>
>>17992661
It’s still a religion. Everyone developed some sort of religion with gods. Nobody made atheism before a religion was made

How you found your religion isn’t relevant to this conversation

Explain me. I'm an atheist who grew up with no religious indoctrination and had nothing to rebel against. It even feels like I missed out on it, would have been fun when I was a teenager with all the potential to be edgy.

Christianity is just a contrarian reaction to paganism. All of earths peoples developed as pagan and then christians came after. Nobody developed christianity first

You grew up materialist, I presume?
>>

> All of earths peoples developed a religion
Yeah, and they also developed slavery, cholera, and dying at 30. You think a caveman choking on a woolly mammoth bone had a nuanced take on the ontological argument? Religion was the default OS for a species that didn't know where the sun went at night. Atheism is just hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL on that corrupted programming.
>>
>>17992867
Coming after doesn't imply a reactionary nature. Pagans disagreed on quantity and quality of their gods and Christianity is one of those takes on quantity and quality. Atheism intentionally denies the supernatural premise altogether, making it a kind of revolution. Which is reactionary.
>>
>>17992867
Why did you bring up Christianity when the OP doesn’t mention it?

Antiparasitic medicine is just a contrarian reaction to having tapeworms. Many of earth's people lived with tapeworms and then antiparasitic medicine came after. Nobody developed antiparasitic medicine first. *smug tapeworm expression*

You may be surprised to learn that there are people who think maybe tapeworms, or at least some specific parasitic worms, aren't so bad as well.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasitic_worm
>Parasitic worms have been used as a medical treatment for various diseases, particularly those involving an overactive immune response. As humans have evolved with parasitic worms, proponents argue they are needed for a healthy immune system.
But I think it's nice that in modern times they're more optional than they used to be.

Peoplekind seem to have an innate desire for religion built in. From the ancient times, everyone seems to want some sort of relationship with the spiritual. Unfortunately for atheists, they desperately try and fill this hole in their life with things like Marvel Funkopops.

Say what you say, but for me Spider-Man is much more real than God or Allah. Does whatever a Spider-Man can. Spins a web, any size. Catches thieves, just like flies. He is the pinnacle of human struggle, a hero that fights for his loved ones, protects the innocent and does his best to be a good person. He is not perfect but does his best. He reminds me of myself. Even though I am so broken, I try to help people and be a beacon of light, as he does. He is a hero to kids and adults alike.

Meanwhile, what Jesus did for us? Just sat at the right hand of the God when he died. The God himself promised it, that his Son would be the King of Heaven. If so, why is Jesus dying on a cross? Is he failing at being a human and failing at what God asks of him? That doesn't sound like a big deal to me. So, even if we assume that Jesus exist, he is not as worthy as a Spider-Man. He is just a regular dude that got everything promised to him because he was the Son of God.

While Spider-Man was nothing special before he got bit by the spider. He is not divine but his deeds are more real to me.

That's too hasty a generalization. I think. The Piraha, and the Comanche, for example, could be termed widely irreligious and skeptical.
>>
>>17993580
Likewise, many primitive horticulturalist peoples could be called Atheistic as their spiritual beliefs ar elimited to the existence of spirits without Gods.
>>
>>17993585
And, for the record, something being 'contrarian' or reactionary does not make it incorrect.
>>
>>17992595
Atheism is just one aspect of existentialism and the reality of there being a god(s) or not is just one truth we do not know the answer to yet. The answer may or may not be important. There is so much we do not know. But one thing we do know is most atheism is a contrary reaction to hierarchies that they feel resentful towards masquerading as knowers of the truth of reality, and that God in the west being their mascot, is rejected by many of the cynical as a symbol of the organizations they despise, justified or not. Gnostic religion is another angle where people seethe at the mainstream society and hierarchies within the canon. It's crazy if you read all this to me.

>Peoplekind seem to have an innate desire for religion built in. From the ancient times, everyone seems to want some sort of relationship with the spiritual.
Okay, let’s think about this logically.
>People do not want to die
>All people will die anyways eventually
>People invent ways in their head to ever die
Yeah man, seems pretty straightforward. Nearly every religion in human history tried to answer the death question. It’s the most pressing question. The Ancient Egyptians stuffed their organs in jars because they didn’t want to die. Abrahamics pray to an ancient desert deity because they don’t want to die. First Century Jews (Pharisees and Sadducees) argued endlessly regarding the existence of heaven because they didn’t want to die. Pagans invented Valhalla because they didn’t want to die.

Religion is innate because we still can’t answer the most basic ass question
>What will happen to me in 80 years?
No wonder everyone’s religious. That doesn’t make them right. It makes them desperate.

Then throw in some more questions like “How do I make the rainfall?” And “Does god want me to chop off my foreskin?” And you get organized religion.

You can't answer what happens after death. You think you can rape and murder and then just poof, extinction. Others have other theories that the universe is just, and good will be rewarded and evil punished. Call it karma or heaven/hell, but it is no wonder why the idea of such a universe is appealing.

>you're scared of dying so you're religious!
I'm not scared though, I practice memento mori, literally practicing death.

That depends, Religion goes faaar back and there aren't any accounts of non religious cultures really. If you go back far enough you might get to a point where man's intelligence was not enhanced enough to conceive of a God.
So does an atheist have to consciously hold that belief to be an athiest?

Even though this thought does not align with Abrahamism officially it sort of does in spirit.
Are there any accounts of honest open atheists a long time ago?

>You can't answer what happens after death.
Neither can you.
>You think you can rape and murder and then just poof, extinction.
You think you can do all those things, call out to god 20 seconds before you have a heart attack, and go to heaven for eternity while your non-religious victims burn in hell forever.
>Others have other theories that the universe is just, and good will be rewarded and evil punished.
Yes, religion is the Just World Fallacy in action.
>Call it karma or heaven/hell, but it is no wonder why the idea of such a universe is appealing.
That doesn’t make it true. It makes it cope.

>you're scared of dying so you're religious!
>I'm not scared though, I practice memento mori, literally practicing death.
You don’t. You believe that, once you die, you’ll be instantaneously zapped back to life in eternal paradise. That’s not death. You have stripped death of all its meaning, and you now claim you do not fear death.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diagoras_of_Melos
>It was about that time [415 BC] that the poet Diagoras of Melos was proscribed for atheism, he having declared that the non-punishment of a certain act of iniquity proved that there were no gods.
>The poet Diagoras of Melos was perhaps the most famous atheist of the fifth century. Although he did not write about atheism, anecdotes about his unbelief suggest he was self-confident, almost teasing, and very public.

Are you thinking of the pythagoreans abstaining from beans?
https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/favism-fava-beans
>According to Pliny, Pythagoreans believed that fava beans could contain the souls of the dead, since they were flesh-like. Due to their black-spotted flowers and hollow stems, some believers thought the plants connected earth and Hades, providing ladders for human souls. The beans’ association with reincarnation and the soul made eating fava beans close to cannibalism.
>Some researchers believe that historical suspicion about fava beans could be rooted in favism, a genetic disorder more common in the Mediterranean than anywhere else. Named for the triggering bean, people with favism develop hemolytic anemia from eating favas, or even inhaling the pollen from its flowers. After consumption or contact, red blood cells start to break down, which can cause anemia-like symptoms, jaundice, and even heart failure.
>>
>>17993686
That's interesting.
Some rich guy turned philosophers student was made to carry lentil soup through the town as if it was an extremely embarrassing act. That could explain it.
Also silence of the lambs linked.
