Irish are as "celtic" as any other specific ethnic group is, because "celtic" is a language family first and people just sort of projected an imaginary ethnicity onto it. Tons of different peoples have been tarred with the Celt brush and they have very little in common with one another, taken as a whole.

Britain being an island only became a thing after the glaciers melted and doggerland was inundated.
