Why do atheists use the argument that humans have a need to be observed, or to worship something, to trivialise religion when that also affects them? They decry the Christians, Muhammadans, and Satanists, as if the worship of politics, philosophy, occultism, or Funko Pops is any better. Even if all are lies, or all are truths, it's still better to be religious.
>bargaining
I wouldn't call it an argument, more like an observation or joke about human nature.>we all have the urge to believe in some big thing, therefore my specific personal favorite thing is the only correct one for all mankind forever and I will get mad if anyone says anything else
>>17996544So what do atheists propose we invest this desire into? Stalinism, suicidal liberalism, consumerism?
People really need to get this idea out of their head that "religion" is something different from other modes of existence, or ideologies, or whatever you want to call it.The entire point of "religion" is that it's a well thought out, ideal way of being in the world, that developed over millennia. It's THE WAY to live, after trying and considering thousands of other perspectives. Just imagine a bunch of monkeys coming to terms with and agreeing that yeah this works. The only thing that changes or might change is that the parameters of THE WAY changes or that institutions corrupt the original teachings.
>>17996548What do you personally like? How would you feel if someone advocated for "investing desire" into a thing that you happened to personally approve of? It would feel great, "someone else concurs with my instincts! I like it!" you would think. But oh no, what if someone said something that differs in some way from your own preferences...? Then you get to enjoy the feeling of being very indignant and mad. Yay! Thinking is fun! We love imagination! What a fulfilling use of time.
>>17996570What insight did you imagine this brought to the thread?
>>17996585The same function that humor serves is to highlight the absurdity of the human condition and to upset up the expectation of rationality.Shitposting on 4chan is itself an inherently funny act so if you get huffy about me posting your thread then it only adds to the humor because you mistakenly place personal value in whatever happens on this joke board. It casts you as a character in a cautionary tale about unreasonable expectations.
>>17996596You're typing more than I am.
>>17996605Yeah it's fun to compose thoughts and post them online. I'm not actually trolling you so I'm not concerned about the text ratio index score.
>>17996500Because ot shows that it's a cope mechanism and not an actual divine entity> it's still better to be religiousProof?
>>17996617Because we live under an atheist government now and it's horrible. The worst state the West has ever been in.
>>17996639>atheist gobernmentIs this government in the thread with us?
>>17996640No, it's in Brussels.
>>17996500Are you a muslim? Only a muslim would make an argument as stupid as this
>>17996670What's your alternative to religion?
>>17996500Religion is nothing more than proto-philosophy mixed with superstitions
If the argument is that humans are naturally inclined to be obsessed, then yes, secular obsessions, fandoms, political ideologies, and even some philosophical pursuits are functionally equivalent. I'm glad you came to this conclusion, sir.
>>17996639You know you can literally just believe in right-wing ideals based on their own merit without the facade of religious LARP, right? Like, when you’re arguing against fags, do you cite pedophilic and STD rates or do you say “Adam and Eve, not Adam and STEVE”? Everything you believe in can be advocated through secular logic.
