The Hungarians and not the slavs were the cause of all the often mentioned “ethnic tensions”. Croats were wholly loyal to the Reich. Slovenes weren’t really ever a factor due to their low numbers and they too seemed loyal. Czechs and Slovaks also seemed chill. Aside from italian and serb irredentism which came from the outside it was the Hungarians that earned the Reich the name “prison of nations” (which it was not).
