What if the Germans built a functioning nuke in 1944?
they could only use it effectively where they had air superiority, so maybe against soviet tank columns, and since the US with all its economic might only managed to produce a handful I expect they would not have many to work with, it probably wouldn't change the outcome of the war

How would they deliver it? They don't have a B29 equivalent bomber. Could a Condor carry it? If not maybe they could move it by submarine. Sail it into New York harbor and set it off next to the Brooklyn Navy yard. Even there though the odds of the bomb making the trip aren't great. The Uboats are all but extinct by this point. Of course flattening NYC will just piss America off and Germany just gets fucked even harder in the end.
>>17996897The Germans attempted an air raid on London in 1944, Operation Steinbock, in which 500 bombers were destroyed. So it would have been risky sending a specialized aircraft capable of carrying an atom bomb to London. Though there was a small chance of success.>v2 rocketstoo small
>>17996916Maybe they could build a one off rocket big enough to carry it. Hitler would love that wonderwaffe shit. The allies would find out and stop it though. Nazi Germany had terrible opsec
>>17996880they didn't have a bomber that could deliver an effective nuke and couldn't even maintain air superiority in their own airspace, so at best they could use it tactically against a Soviet or American army and then lose anyway
>>17996924I doubt they could even pull that off. Way too many allied spies around by 1944. Germany had no secrets.
>>17996880They would have had to either used it completely untested, or test it and alert the allies that they had it. If the allies knew, then every bomber in range would be sent on a raid to reduce it's location to a fine dust. Like daily thousand bomber raids to one location. Even if they built it under a mountain, everything around the site would turned into a moonscape and the entrances buried under rubble. There's no world in which this works. Also, they would have had to pull off refinement without the western allies knowing, which they couldn't do during the real war. They would have also needed to somehow build a bomb with drastically less resources and under bombardment faster than the Americans managed in the real world. The question requires so much to be different, and those differences so unrealistic, that an appropriate answer is "Captain America would stop it."
