>Buddhism started and spread in India
>only like less than 1% of population are buddhist
Why? Buddhism is pretty much a superior version of Hindu religion

Hinduism like most Abrahamic faiths promise alot for just believing and doing the bare minimum, unless the option is brain dead pagan spiritualism like in China or Japan, it aint winning against these faiths
>>
>>17997579
I read about this yesterday. It's because hinduism basically absorved it throught the centuries, and, 1000 years ago, buddism in india basically became indistinguishable from hinduism

The buddha becoming an avatar of Vishnu also helped
>>
1. Mudslime invasion and the destruction of Nalanda University
2. Adi Shankara and his movement to revive the Upanishad while stealing Buddhist concepts and practices and to maintain Brahminical power and status because the Buddha and Buddhist were deconstructing the caste system
3. Hindu texts claiming Buddha was an avatar of Vishnu to teach adharma
4. Vajrayana Tantric synergizing with Hindu Tantric practices in later Buddhist development. The lines and distinguishment between the two were being blurred.

tldr; hindu and mudslime influence
>>
Hinduism, like most polytheistic religions, is an eclectic faith. They added gods and myths and ideas over time as more people from different areas were folded into the religion's sphere of influence. Buddhism was just another upstart religion to the ancient Hindu temples, they'd absorbed countless others before it.
>>
>>17997579
India used to be Buddhist before it got two punch K.O'd by Islamic invasion and Brahminic resurgence.

They played Second fiddle to Buddhism for an extremely long time. And even today Buddhism is not extinct in the subcontinent (Sri Lanka, Bhutan doesn't count, Sadly). Not only that, it supplanted Hinduism in large parts of South East Asia.
>>
Inferior to Jainism

>brain dead pagan spiritualism like in China or Japan, it aint winning against these faiths
Those Chinese and Japaneae faiths existed alongside Dharmic religion and tended to paint their interactions with it.

>ooooh sorry I can't eat potatoes because digging them up might disturb some little creatures in the dirt
Jainism is interesting but quite silly. Might as well not breathe because you're breathing in bacteria that your immune system will kill. Hell, just kill yourself now to stop your evil body from killing the tiny creatures trying to infect you!

Jainism only makes some sense if you only consider visible creatures in your definition of "killing" - with microscopes we know that there are actually living creatures even in a lactovegetarian's food. What can you do to stop your body from killing germs? Give yourself AIDS intentionally? Again, the only way out appears to be suicide, and that doesn't seem very logical.

Is any of the Buddhist mythology cool? Any stories that have interesting twists or whatever like in the Greek myths.Buddhism always seemed more boring to me as a religion. But I know it mutated into such varied forms as it spread. Ive been to arm museums and looked at buddhist art with depictions of boddisatvas with swords and stuff about boddisatvas basically becoming deities that patronize a certain sort of quality of life.

literally only christianity places emphasis on faith alone. Sometimes I wonder why I even post on this site. It's like I'm in the truman show. Being given obviously false information just so I can have something to do by correcting anons.

Buddhists retreated into the monasteries and focused on arcane scholastic debates and weird tantric shit while the Brahmins remained more socially and politically engaged. When the Muslims came in and destroyed all of the monasteries, Brahminism was much more resilient because of this.
>>
>>17998253
Only some Christian theologies put emphasis that one is SAVED by FAITH ALONE. Judaism doesn't seem concerned about lofty spiritual ideas as much as either Christianity in general or Islam (again, to broadly generalize), they barely believe in an afterlife. Hence Jews tend to see worldly success as a good thing, while some Christians take vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience to a rule that would be alien to the Jewish mindset.

Low IQ.
Buddhism is one of the extremely few religions/belief systems that come close to Christianity with intellectual baggage.
Hence why it was mostly spread to East Asians, while jeets reverted to worshipping toilets, eating cow shit and getting crushed by juggernauts.

Nice troll. It's always funny to see people incorrectly correcting others and messing up basic English when they are a native speaker.

Buddhismus and Hinduism are the same religion. One is the war version one is the peace version. Its a political strategy. In times of war they can rely on one religion and in time of peace to the other and they will always have moral superiority.

If anything Buddhism began as a reform of Brahmanism but quickly distinguished itself. It came to reject both the worship of an omnipotent deity (Brahma) and the notion of a self that isn't based in emptiness (anatman), while Hindoos believe in various needful deities and a self. Of course, there are a wide variety of Buddhist practices that vary by region. But to say the two are equivalent because they use some of the same terminology like "Dharma" (having been birthed in the same environment) is like saying Christianity and Islam are the same religion because they both talk about Jesus and claim descent from Abraham.

yes, the concept of karma is common to both religions, because it was a widely held belief in the region at the time. Do you want to learn or discuss, or are you just here to hand wave away points that challenge you?

There's a misconception that you need to shave your head, wear prison colors, and leave society to be a Buddhist. Of course, none of that is necessary. Plus it has the reputation of a "thou shalt not" type philosophy, whereas in Hinduism you have a lot of creative freedom, including creating your own god/s to worship if you want.

You can justify fucking everything, even a monotheistic god with a saviour figure, in Hinduism. It looks like a coherent religion, but upon closer examination it is a leftover stew of often contradictory views cuz a bunch of Hindu “intellectuals” in the 19th century decided it’s a good idea to combine 12 (or so) schools into one.

There are Hindus who will unironically eat beef and not give a rat’s ass about the welfare of cattle. But hey, they aren’t vocal in the internet or get endorsed by the Indian government.

Buddhism is far more coherent, even with the Mahayana-Theravada split they still hold complimentary views and conclusions across both schools for the most part. Indian Buddhists for the longest time identified as Hindu because it was an eclectic religion, but started to specifically identify as Buddhist from the 20th century onwards thanks to the “unification” of Hinduism. India now has a sizeable Theravada Buddhist minority, and some Tibetan Buddhists as well due to the Dalai Lama’s taking refuge in India.

There's also Dalit Buddhism but that's just political larp.

>a superior version of Hindu religion
>Hindu religion
Hindu "religion" is just a poorly sewn together mess of a whole bunch of different crap with only a few key points in common. There are both atheists and people who believe that an anthropomorphic elephant really exist within Hinduism.
Also, practically nobody actually thinks about their religion and goes through any kind of investigation to find the "best" option available, most people just copypaste the traditions from their families and communities.
Lastly, Buddhism has very little of what makes a religion go "viral" in that its form of proselytism is pretty much framed as personal advice, "do this and that to defeat suffering and anxiety", whereas Hiduism's obsession with dharma makes it the kind of religion that can easily become embedded into the fabric of a society, attach itself to people's identities and be exploited by those in power. Buddhism doesn't even bother to tell you to identify as a "Bhuddist" or offer a concrete definition of one as that's not really a concept that matches a religion that denies the self, and it also offers next to nothing to someone seeking to justify their power like you can with Hinduism's caste system.
>>
>>18005199
>You can justify fucking everything, even a monotheistic god with a saviour figure, in street shitterism

wrong.

>It looks like a coherent religion

wrong.

>a bunch of Hindu “intellectuals” in the 19th century

wrong, it was invented by one brit who looked at the british census of india and decided anyone who isn't a "mohammedian" is a native to india and one religion. this would've not happened if brits didn't hate islam. Thus, street shitterism is a british contruct and it revolves around hating islam.

>12 schools

wrong.

multiply that by a large number.
