Who is your favorite The Great and why is it Alexander?
>>18001097My favorite was Alfred The Great and I don't even like BritbongsMy least favorite is Pompey, the name was a joke anyway
Cyrus
>>18001097Alexander fans: no he wasn’t gay, there is a complex system in Ancient Greece around sexuality and dominanceFredrick fans: the fag knew how to fight a war.
>>18001097Why do they depict Pompey with pale skin and blond hair and Alexander with blue eyes? Nordicist myths are too long-lived
>>18001097Toss up between Alex and Cyrus
Uncle Freddy was alway the greatest for me. Heil Preußen!
>>18001097> 3 out of 8 gays, and only a single womanMale supremacy strikes again.
>>18001097100% Indo-EuropeansNot one Semite, African, Asian, or anything. Very telling, I'd say. *Cyrus seems to have been legit. Although, the Egyptians really didn't like the Persians for some reason, which is why they were happy to let Alex "conquer" them in the first place.
>>18002047I know Frederick and Alexander, but who's the third gay?
>>18001960>complex system in Ancient Greece around sexuality and dominanceBeing attracted to cute boys isn't gay. It's hyper-straight.
>>18001964Because that's how they looked, you low iq subhuman shitskin.
>>18002897No, they didn't. Greeks and Romans were brown people so light features of a person were always described by historians.
>>18002550Cyrus was the worst king out of all of human history, and as time goes on, I doubt his existence too.
>>18001883Why Alfred?
>>18003475He's had a pretty lasting legacy on multiple areas. Some kings are great warriors, or reformers, or known for piety and promotion of learning, some were expert politicians. Alfred was great at all of these things.
>>18001097Most underrated European ruler.
>>18003492My man. Always was a fan of Alfred the Great myself. First thing I read about him was that he made these forts around the country. That part of England wasn't taken by Vikings, other parts were.
>>18001097Friendly reminder that Pompey was named "the Great" after destroying some random literal who pirates>>18002018pretentious faggot who relied on luck all his reignextremely overrated
>>18002913You're a dumb shitskin
>>18003581You are a dishonest retard.
>>18003628I am not, you're a dumb and lying shitskin. The depictions of the time show both Greeks and Romans as white, hence they still are to this day mostly white. But lying subhuman shitskins like you cannot tell the truth.
>>18003512As far as Greats go, he's most deserving. I'm not even a Brit, and my history background is Ancient Rome with some early medieval studies on post Roman legacy in Europe, so I don't have much education on England. But I did do a semester on England from 410-1066 and Alfred was my favorite lecture from that class.
Because unlike Napoleon, whose achievements were impressive but somewhat temporally constrained, Alexander combined strategy, charisma, cultural vision, and audacity in a way that still resonates today.
>>18001097Great lords Hideyoshi
>>18003064We have his tomb and Cyropedia, etc....Sure, his legend grew in the telling, but I don't think anyone doubts he was real. Even the Jews called him "Mashiach", and Persia is were all the "King of Kings", "Lord of Lord" titles come from, not to mention the Magi(Zoroastrians) and the various iterations of Meads, Parthians, Sarmatians, etc....
>>18003512Alfred was down to hiding in a single hut out in the Swamps before he finally made a big come back.
>>18003525Pompey took out a little temple in Jerusalem, too, didn't he? ;)
>>18001960Frederick is the only gay historical figure who very probably wasnt actually gay just really sensitive.
>>18001097Cyrus>Charles>Peter>Ashoka>Alexander>Frederick>Catherine>PompeyCyrus formed the first great empire stretching across the Middle East with no peers pretty much until its collapse. Charles helped to set up what would essentially be the core of European politics for the next 700 years between France the emperor, and the Pope. Peter turned Russia into a Western nation with an influence in European politics beyond Lithuania and set the ultimate stage for Russian influence in the 19th century. Ashoka conquered a lot and spread Buddhism which kinda cool I guess. Alexander conquered a lot but his empire instantly imploded, his line died out, and his successor states were conquered by Rome, Frederick was a good general but not much else, also lucky, with all his wars he only gained Silesia. Catherine shouldn't even be called the Great but she did continue the general westernization but her grandson would be the one to set Russia up as a world power instead of a regional actor, Pompey just has good publicity and there are like 50 Roman generals and emperors who should be called the Great before him eg. Caesar, Sulla, Marius, Scipio Africanus, Scipio Asiaticus, Quintus Fabius, Augustus, Aurelian, and Diocletian.
