From a legal/political theory (& Humanities) perspective, this (picrel) is perhaps the most pertinent question of our times: is a state allowed to forgo enforcing the provisions of its constitution, in order to uphold the Spirit of the constitution, that is, national sovereignty? Picrel makes a strong case in favor of this. Would it necessitate a wholesale revision of the social contract, perhaps by a referendum or a constitutional assembly? It seems that the need for a strong, dictatorial executive state becomes more prominent each passing day, as the world seems to be entering a very fluid and dangerous state.
