Why did australian aboriginal forget how to make boats? To cross the wallace line, they must created boats that can travel over open water. But by the time of contact they could not make boats that could go to islands that can be seen from shore
>Petrol, dude!
>>18003068They walked there before the end of the last ice age when the sea levels were lower and there was a land bridge.
>>18003146This, they aren’t modern humans
>>18003146>>18003491There is only a land bridge between Australia and New Guinea but not to Java and Borneo.
>>18003552Maybe they were taken there by a different group and that different group got out-reproduced somehow? Idk anything about it though.
>>18003557they probably just forgot. maybe the boat was a bad memory of migration times before they found paradise.
>>18003068Sounds like the guys that lived in the Canary Islands before the spanish. They had no contact with each other in the close islands and were scared of the sea, as if someone just left them there
>>18003068they got more and more inbred and isolated over time and just sort of "rotted" intellectually and culturally. most Abo tribes periodically forgot how to make fire at will and even remained ignorant about breeding until contact. They figured women "just got pregnant" from the "spirits" for "reasons". They barely had stone tools and mostly just ate whatever they came across, threw it on the coals to warm it up a bit and that's all there was to life. they don't really even have a concept of "the Future", just like Africans. The Past is deeply old and ancient and the present exists b/c they want to eat something, but "what will be after now" doesn't really exist in their concept of the world. they can't project forward, or abstract a hypothetical in any way.they were so dull and locked in the moment to moment existence of life that according to the firs explorers in Tasmania, the locals didn't even bat an eyelash, or get angry, or attack or anything. They were completely nonplused, and acted like they had seen white people, or any other people at all, everyday. Effectively, they were too dumb to be surprised or impressed in any way. Just sort of "Oh, hi. Got food?"
>>18003590No wonder aussies labelled them under flora&fauna.
>>18003562Maybe the Polynesians took them as slaves and brought them over? They’re too stupid to build boats
>>18003624they were probably smarter 20,000 years ago
>>18003068Maori and Rapa Nuians forgot how to make seagoing vessels only a few generations after settling in their new lands.
>>18003068>australian aboriginal forget how to make boatsnot only forget how to make boats, but did not make any advancements over long periods of time. I wonder why
>>18003590Abos are truly the ultimate subhumansThey make Subsaharans look like geniuses in comparison
>>18003749Because they’re not modern humans
There is an exception. The Torres Strait Islanders did keep advanced outrigger canoes, because they lived in an archipelago where long crossings were essential. That supports the idea that need drives technology retention.

>>18003619They didn't.>>18003824>>18003793What do you get out of calling people non human?
