Would Christianity have become as popular as it is today if Jesus didn't become a martyr?
sure. it even would have been as popular had (historical) jesus not existed at all because there were other missionaries preaching one true god (for example simon the magus) at the same time so one of them would just take his place in history.
>>18005421Christianity wouldn't exist if Jesus didn't become a martyr, what the fuck even is this thread?
>>18005421no
I dunno would Islam have almost two billion followers if their founder didn't become a martyr? Oh wait, he didn't.
>>18005443would we be sitting by candlelight if edison hadn't invented the light bulb?
>>18005454Muhammad never claimed to be a savior or a son of God. He didn't need to be martyred
>>18005486>Muhammad never claimed to be a savior or a son of God.Neither did Jesus.
>>18005486pretty sure the idea that god had to kill himself to forgive the humans he created was just a big cope invented after Jesus died at the hands of the Romans, a convicted heretic. That was not the Messiah described by the Hebrew Bible or anticipated by the Hebrews. You can try and justify it spiritually, many have, but it is still very odd that he didn't change much on earth besides gaining a lot of followers through Paul's opening up of the religion to Gentiles. Especially since the generation of the apostles wasn't supposed to pass before the second coming, and that never happened.
>>18005500>Jesus died at the hands of the Romans, a convicted heretic.jesus was announced innocent in the eyes of roman law by roman judge pontius pilate, it's the jews who had him lynched
>>18005421Maybe, maybe not but it was the Antonine Plague that really pushed Christianity to the masses.
>>18005513>Tries to free him since he did nothing wrong>Jews threaten with revolt>At Passover, Pilat tries to free Jesus by letting the jews pick who to free between Jesus and a notorious criminal.>Jews pick the criminalOy vey.
>>18005421Christianity = trying to explain how Jesus can still be the Messiah despite dying without fulfilling a prophecy, so no.
>>18005454What a great own lmaoPeople keep shoving the martyrdom thing down our throats but you can tell that shit only appeals to women or feminized souls. I'll stick to the cult of Mithras, thanks for nothing ya cunts.
>>18005500>That was not the Messiah described by the Hebrew Bible or anticipated by the Hebrews. So it was done at the behest of the Jews then.
>>18005892Matthew 15:24 NRSV[24] He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” https://bible.com/bible/2016/mat.15.24.NRSVAre you Jewish? If not, why then follow Jewish scriptures (the "Old Testament" or the Hebrew Bible) looking for the crumbs that point to Jesus fulfilling Hebrew prophecy in the New Testament? A Messiah was supposed to liberate the Jews from foreign occupation and establish a thousand year "Reich" or something. Not die as a criminal heretic with unfulfilled prophecies.
>>18005922Im neither Jewish nor do I follow any of the current corrupted faiths, including Judaism.
Resurrection narratives depend on the crucifixion. Without the crucifixion, the resurrection loses meaning, and key doctrines would be nonexistent.
>>18006284Since when? Mithras left to rejoin Sol and he wasn't crucified.
