In what ways could the Treaty of Versailles have been better for germany to avoid ww2?
I think if my cat Rupert had been at the table it would have mellowed everyone out into a less punishing deal. reparations that Germany could realistically pay & softening the wording on article 231. his cute meows would have relaxed them all, heres a picture of what it could look like (rupert is in colour to stand out)

do you think rupert could have prevented ww2?

Balkanize it further

I suspect so he might have delayed it, but sooner or later Hitler or some other person from the next generation who had not been a Versailles would have got into power. They'd have to be shown Rupert again, unfortunately cats don't live that long.

>No restrictions on the German military
>No occupation of the Rhineland or Saarland
>No forced demilitarization
>Assist in putting down far left/right paramilitares
>Young plan way earlier

A better Treaty of Versailles would have required realistic reparations Germany could actually pay and removed the humiliating *war guilt* clause. This might have stabilized the Weimar Republic and prevented the hyperinflation and resentment the Nazis exploited.

Wasn't it the great depression that cause post-WWI Germany to collapse and pave the way for Hitler?

Could this have been accomplished through the addition of a feline at the peace conference?

Germany shouldn’t have been punished so harshly in the first place since the war was the fault of Austria-Hungary. At most they should have demilitarized the Saarland.

Why does this prevent ww2? If anything it enables Germany to rebound faster and start pushing for territorial demands.

Also, the French and the Belgians would never sign this treaty since 99% of the fighting had occurred in their country, so it was their industry that was destroyed, scorched, looted etc. The war reparations were high because it was meant to pay for the damage and for the loans that had bankrupt France.
This, while Germany had exited the war largely intact, meant that Germany would rebound a lot faster than France even with IRL versailles.
With a German military intact the French may also begin a frantic search for allies sooner than they did IRL with German remilitarization and Hitler was "responding" to an encirclement of the French-Soviet alliance and the Stresa Front.

Correct, NSDAP vote shot from 2% to 30% during the great depression, and Germans primarily voted for them based on anti-austerity points.
>>
Placing full blame for WWI on Germany humiliated the nation and created fertile ground for nationalist resentments.

To do that they would've had to actually conquer it in the real world as opposed to merely on paper through a clever a terms-switcheroo. Both France and Britain were already completely exhausted, on the brink of collapse and revolutions (despite USA working so hard to prop them up), and thus in no position to do that.
