What do you think of the British Empire? Was that term even used during its heyday, or is it post-World War II?
The British Empire should've confederated with the Dutch and German Empires. Total dominance of Africa and Asia
>>18011637as an indian, i should hate them for looting and dividing our countrybut at the same time they gave us iron maiden and mr bean, so it’s all good
>>18011637What do you think of the British Empire? The peak of our civilization. Sadly, Nothing will ever come close any time soon.
>>18011637The most benevolent empire in history. By that I mean anything bad they did was done in good intentions. They believed in the liberalism they espoused. Unlike Amerigolems who worship line go up, Spaintards obsessed with the pope, or French negrophiles.
Yes, the term British Empire was used during its heyday, especially in the 19th century.
>>18011690The sun never set on British Empire, except for once at it's very end

I think most people in my country don't understand it at all.I think they believe it was like the Spanish Empire; these huge epic conquests by incredible commanders who were showered in glory and gold-some sort of incredibly and dominant titan of history. It did last for a decent period; around a century, although I'd say closer to a century and a half. However sadly people so poorly understanding the Empire has lead to it basically vanishing from the national conciousness.Yes, all the young lads "yearn" for the Empire, but they dunno what that means. Most of it still exists, basically; the only settler colony we really lost was was became the US-I guess South Africa, but that's a push. Australia, New Zealand, Canada, all still here, all still have our monarch on their coins and as their head of state, all remain politically tied to us. Most of the rest of the Empire was>AfricaVast swathes of unpopulated territory with a handful of plantations/trade outposts.>AsiaSee above, but on an even smaller scale>Muh RajWhich was more of a business than a colony for most of its history. They cite the Empire as this epic and cool world police, and then go to far to imagine epic redcoat stormtroopers dominating the planet. The maps that show it "at its territorial peak" are often posted, but people know full well that most of the African territory is "owned" with nobody able to war Britain and take it-rather than being directly and constantly governed or colonised. Likewise with the huge chunk in Canada; most of that is empty snowy wilderness. So yeah, the British Empire was really interesting-but nobody ever actually really discusses it, ever. There are fuck all British history threads on /his/ because men in this godawful country prefer tiktok tier "vibes" history rather than getting a decent hold on the heritage of their nation.
>>18012325>Most of it still exists, basicallyThe people (their descendants) still exist, everything else doesn't. Being "ruled" by the same king is meaningless when the king doesn't actually hold any power and you're not even allowed to pursue an independent foreign policy anyway because you're under someone else's imperial control.
>>18012340My point was more that people always talk about these "alternative timelines" for the Empire where "we didn't lose it because of WW2." In truth, the writing was on the wall long before WW2 and preparations were underway to slowly transition from Empire to Commonwealth long prior; it was realised very quickly that Britain could not posture as a liberal democracy while bullying colonial subjects-especially white ones. We are currently living in probably one of the "best timelines" for the British Empire; it had an entire century named after it, it made Britain astoundingly rich, it saved us from getting dogwalked by the continentals for keeps in the 1940s, and in the end we got to ditch all the shit bits full of angry tribesmen and keep all the decent bits full of settlers-who also agreed to be basically permanently associated with us culturally, politically, and economically.Every other alternative sees us fight and lose nine gorillion guerilla wars until our nation collapses outright.
>>18011654>as an indianWe weren't asking you.
>>18012384I'll habe you know that if it wasn't for the indians on social media running British Patriot accounts nobody would know the british empire existed
>>18012298What will be the fourth Rome?
>>18012387That's pretty grim.
>>18012340The UK has been held together by the prime minister since at least the 19th century. This is what that other anon meant when he compared it to how people view Spain. It wasn't like that at all

>>18012325>There are fuck all British history threads on /his/ because men in this godawful country prefer tiktok tier "vibes" history rather than getting a decent hold on the heritage of their nation. The fact that I have to share a board with foreigners has lead me to focus my historical attention on ancient rome since there's less nationalist shitflinging there, its very relieving to discuss history without having a Spaniard, Frenchman, American, or German barging in with Wikipedia battleboxes and bad faith arguments because their national pride depends on them winning a battle 300 years ago. This isn't unique to British history in any way most other nationalities face similar problems if they want to discuss their history here.
