Why do people act like Free Trade was always a thing and ignore the fact the US had a lot of tariffs and protectionism in the periods we typically associate with high quality of life in the US, IE the late post civil war 1800s until the great depression and the 1940s until the late 1960s. we really only saw a boom under free trade during the 1980s and 1990s

Neoliberal post-war propaganda

>we typically associate with high quality of life in the US, IE the late post civil war 1800s until the great depression
You mean the gilded age, when children worked in sweatshops and the infant mortality rate was 10%-15%?
>>
>>18012717
It saw American industry become a powerhouse and dethrone yurop and lead to the roaring 20s.
If life was so bad, why were yuros fucking pouring in?
>>
>>18012606
>people
Who? Mind, if you can't answer, I'll have to take you in.
>>
>>18012725
>If life was so bad, why were yuros fucking pouring in?
Same as always - because life was worse in Europe, yet they were making enough to pay for the passage.
>>
>>18012795
commies
>>
>>18012800
life was bad comparing to today standards, for the period it was the best in the world and a noticeable improvement compared with they had before
>>
>>18012717
>when children worked in sweatshops and the infant mortality rate was 10%-15%?
that is not a high child mortality for the time and the idea that children shouldn't work is a very modern one, before the sweatshops and factories those children would be laboring in the fields to not starve
>>
Free trade is only really advocated for by monopolists and other giant corporations so they can undercut local competition with economy of scale logistics.
>>
>>18012800
So life in America was comparitively the best in the world as opposed to today where America is a borderline third world country.
>>
>>18012949
what country is better than the US? don't say yurop, that's a 4th world shithole where 175,000 yuros die each year of being too poor, gay and retarded to invent AC
>>
>>18012725
>It saw American industry become a powerhouse
The same could be said of Stalin's Russia. That doesn't necessarily imply high quality of life.
>>
>>18013011
the US in the late 1800s and early 1900s had a higher quality of life than the rest of the world, hence people coming in. where as people were trying to escape stalin's russia
>>
>>18013018
>the US in the late 1800s and early 1900s had a higher quality of life than the rest of the world
source? The majority of immigration to the US at the time came from places like Ireland rocked by the potato famine and they are not exactly representative of the average European life.
>>
>>18012960
48 countries have a lower infant mortality rate than America, 64 have lower maternal mortality rates, 54 have higher life expectancies, and 138 have lower murder rates than America.
>>
>>18013030
they also came from shitaly and germany
>>18013037
>48 countries have a lower infant mortality rate than America
that's blacks. black infant mortality rate is like 20 times that of whites
>, 64 have lower maternal mortality rates
same as above
> 54 have higher life expectancies
same as above. also the US counts infant deaths while no one else does
> and 138 have lower murder rates than America.
same as above.
like 4 times as many yuros die each year of being too poor, gay, retarded and dickless to invent AC as Americans die of guns
>>
>>18012606
Protectionism is just trade sanctions applied by "your own" gaberment. When western countries sanction Russia (Cuba, North Korea, whatever) then they are doing it NOT for these countries to get economically stronger. On the contrary.
Read a book and stop babbling like fucking illiterate 17th century peasant. You are WAY too stupid to figure out economics by yourself. Until then you are just useful idiot; that's who you are.
>>
>>18013100
>t. h1b visa holder
>>
>>18012606
neoliberalism poisoned boomers minds.
Free trade is pretty universally bad which is why only countries controlled by israel submit to it. Any wise country protects some industries and its citizens from 3rd world slave labor
>>
>>18013104
A few billionaires do benefit from protectionism; that's why gaberments are doing it. Idiots like you pay for it and further (!) line the pockets of oligarchs - with _your own_ fucking money.
>>
>>18013140
free trade only benefits billionaires and does not benefit normal people, h1b holder
>>
>>18012606
>Global Times

Because global times is a media outlet of China and it is against their interest to have America levy tariffs against themselves. Duh
>>
>>18013164
And the EU sanction Russia for the benefit of Russians.
This is you brain on socialist propaganda.
