Did USSR/Russia become a superpower because of socialism or in spite of it?
>>18024943In spite. Russia would have industrialized without communism, they would just have used French machines instead of American ones
>>18024943The USSR collapsed within itself after 69 years of rule and having the western world as its crutch during its most fateful period (WW2). The former member states struggled demographically even decades after WW2 against an enemy which shouldn't even have gotten past Ukraine realistically. It was a failed project through and through, only elevated by its vast territories with enough resources to sustain themselves, a large population and the cultural legacy of its predecessor. Otherwise it would have faltered into an even shorter lived regime.
>>18024974Best argument being every other socialist State which wasn't as geographically favoured as the Soviet Union. The Eastern Block collapsed within weeks without a fight after Gorbachov stopped Soviet Intervention, Venezuela and Argentinia squandered away all their potential after decades of ruling, I don't even have to mention the failure of the African States.
>>18024943Russia was already industrialising before 1917.
