Why didn't the Ottoman Empire ever tried to discover the New World?
Sure, they were blocked from the Mediterranean Sea but they have the Red Sea.
Is their timber industry so bad that they can't make their own Galleons?
>>
No ports on the Atlantic Ocean means Spain could isolate you from whatever colonies you founded as soon as a state of war arises
>>
Always shocks me to see how deeply entrenched the Turks were in the Balkans when Constantinople fell
>>
Most of the time, either Iran or Austria-Hungaria were trying to invade them, later on Russia basically woke up every day and asked itself: "What's keeping me from invading the Ottoman Empire today?".
>>
>>18034879
That's a stupid excuse
Spain created their colonial empire while couping their kings over and over
>>
>>18034871
The discovery of the new world was driven by luck and necessity, not some faustian warrior sprit that chuds believe. Osmanlis had cucked the timmies out of major trade routes, so they tried to directly trade with the asians and not through the ottomans.
>>

>Sure, they were blocked from the Mediterranean Sea but they have the Red Sea.
Are you saying sail all the way around Africa and then the Atlantic? I mean sure, it's possible, but surely you can see just through common sense how if a war broke out between a Western Euro colony in the Americas and an Ottoman colony in the Americas which one's getting reinforced first
>>
>>18034871
Forget the New World, they basically had their own private sea (the Red Sea) which connected out to the Indian Ocean. Ottoniggers should have such a massive headstart on colonizing Africa, India and SEA that Euros would never catch up and been relegated to fighting over just the Americas and maybe western Africa. Ottomans had no excuse not to be experts in seafaring either with their centuries of domination in the Mediterranean and multiple other seas. Incredible how they blew that lead, if you ask me. They should've been all of the European colonial powers combined in Africa.
>>
>>18034892
But when spaniards realized they're not in India, did they abandon America? No, they started builiding a latinx world there.
>>
>>18034879
>Most of the time, either Iran or Austria-Hungaria were trying to invade them,
Lmao. Turks were the ones trying to zerg rush into europe and annex persia into their empire
>>
>Why didn't the Ottoman Empire ever tried to discover
Here's your problem, they weren't interested in such things
>>
>>18035108
Anon finds out empires are both interested in killing each other

It was necessity, alright
Necessity to outflank the Ottomans by converting the otherside of the world to Christianity

The true main goal of the Age of Exploration was to convert the natives on the otherside to Christianity in order to cease the spread of Islam. It was a desperate move done out of fear of the Turks. Every single sailor did it because they witnessed first hand the might of the Turks and they have the desire to end their image of invincibility - and this was their answer
The fact that it became profitable was just a later discovery
>>
>>18034871
They controlled the silk road and had access to Persian bussy, which is like crack to an Ottoman
>>
>>18034916
They were always behind on seafaring. The Venetians had centuries of naval superiority. Mehmet had to move boats over land because they couldn't even manage a simple blockade.
>>
>>18034871
Ottoman naval tradition was dominated by subjugated peoples, especially Greeks.
>>
>>18035779
Also foreigners, huge number of successful Barbary pirates were English and Dutch sailing with mixed North African and European crews.
>>
>>18034871
Nobody gave a fuck about the new world. It was all about Asia
>Dividing the trade of the orient w/ Venice while pretending to have a rivalry
>Portugal pull an epic gamer move and start routing part of the trade from India around Africa EU4 style
>Rivalry w/ Venice exposed as fake and gay, Portugal is now my enemy

That shit was way scarier to the Turks than spics discovering some shitty place with gold and new food.
>>
>>18035792
Surely, you jest
Haiti's sugar plantations were an absolute power house
S. America had so much gold and silver, it crashed Spain's market

And then, there's cotton, corn, and potatoes, which became an absolute necessity for everyday life
>>
Atlantic navigation posed unique challenges such as currents that were not encountered in the Red Sea.
>>
>>18035900
Caribbean sugar didn’t become a big thing until the 1700s. Spices, silk, and china were unironically worth more than gold and silver.
>>
>>18034871
The Ottomemes were extremely backwards and poor, they didnt have the resources to sustain great voyages across the seas.
>>
>>18035775
Yeah but even with Venetian dominance in the Mediterranean and Black seas, the Ottotards still had the Red Sea and Persian Gulf to develop in. They really had no excuse. Whenever I look into them they just look AFK.
>>
The Ottomans were incompetent retards who kept declaring worthless wars against shitholes in central, eastern europe and iran that always ended up in stalemates and unnecessary deaths and material losses instead of focusing on colonizing Africa, Australia and the Spice Islands
>>
>>18035779
greeks basically ran the empire from the 18th century onward
>>
>>18035715
Uh? Islam still spread in SEA and only one country in SEA is Catholic.
>>
>>18036236
Spices, sure
Silk no, lmao

By this time, the Byzantine Empire had already smuggled the silkworms, which also propagated to other European countries
Ardèche and Lyons of France, for example, are major exporters of European silk long before the Ottomans could make a name for themselves
>>
>>18036510
Yes! Because they were under the impression that there were only 3 continents in the world - Europe, Africa, Central Asia, India, and China

Their plan to flank Ottomans failed because they never thought that the Americas existed, which they then turned into a Christian continent

This doesn't mean that it was worthless, though, as they were able to place decent Christian communities inthe Philippines, China, Japan, and Korea
>>
>>18034871
Exploration is literally purely a Germanic thing. Non-Europeans simply have no natural curiosity and thus never bother exploring anything. Japan didn't know Sakhalin right next door was an island until 1810.
>>
>>18036653
>3 continents
*5

?????????
An italian kickstarted european exploration
>>
